Nintendo-owned characters that Isabelle beats out in prominence:I agree that dark Pit and shulk aren't all stars. Not every character in smash is. But to say she's more of an all star than 3/4 of the cast is silly. I still think she can be in, but all star is a little much. She's only an all star compared to the remaining pool of character not already in.
My predictions/most wantedMy predictions:
Isaac 65%
Geno 60%
Bandana Dee 60%
Skull Kid 50%
Chorus Kids 45%
Inceneroar 40%
Banjo and Kazooie 40%
Isabelle 70%
Shadow 65%
Dixie Kong 60%
Impa 50%
I don’t expect all of them fyi
I'm confident all characters (outside of a couple echoes) will all be moderately popular characters, whether that be through the ballot or in-general popularity.Just wondering, how many people here expect the "predictable" outcome of a few unique newcomers, all of them being ballot choices like Isaac, Geno, Skull Kid, etc. Right now, this is what I generally see of Smashboards speculation right now.
How much confidence do you have on this outcome? Why so?
Do you expect your predictions for Smash Ultimate to be easily subverted by Sakurai?
The second question in particular is what I would appreciate an in-depth response for.
Because 8 sounds about right to me. It can be more, it could even be less. It's just what I think. I don't think we're getting anywhere close to Smash 4's newcomer list. Why does everyone think we’re only getting eight total newcomers? Brawl and 4 got around 17 so I’d say 10 total newcomers seems about right. 10 + 6 returning vets seems about right to me
I think it was @Scoliosis Jones who gave an excellent point of view on this matter of what we predict and speculate, and how wrong we mostly came about everything in the past and now despite the evidences, hints, teasing, etc.Just wondering, how many people here expect the "predictable" outcome of a few unique newcomers, all of them being ballot choices like Isaac, Geno, Skull Kid, etc. Right now, this is what I generally see of Smashboards speculation right now.

I only am more confident in those choices (Geno, Isaac, Banjo, etc) now because nearly all of the newcomers are primarily fan requested choices (yes, even Simon).Just wondering, how many people here expect the "predictable" outcome of a few unique newcomers, all of them being ballot choices like Isaac, Geno, Skull Kid, etc. Right now, this is what I generally see of Smashboards speculation right now.

Agreed, but 15 or so has been the general number since brawl and with the returning veterans 10 seems about right to meBecause 8 sounds about right to me. It can be more, it could even be less. It's just what I think. I don't think we're getting anywhere close to Smash 4's newcomer list.
Am I crazy if I think 8 more newcomers? I mean, we already have 4 newcomers and 12 newcomers in total would be the same number as the original roster, and a nice referenceWhy does everyone think we’re only getting eight total newcomers? I'd make Sonic's have him jumping off the Tornado as it flies past the stage. If you could change any of the entrance animations which would you change? I would change Cloud to where he rides in on a chocobo!
Past games also never went out of their way to prioritise all veterans coming back (with Ness even being planned to be replaced in Melee) and yet here we are. Past trends don't mean that much for a game like this. I mean, if you stated 7 months ago thatTo be quite fair it's happened 3 times in the past 3 games (Smash 4 even had multiple).
Sakurai likes surprising people so I wouldn't be shocked if there is at least 1 weird/silly new character in the roster.
I’d give Luigi one where he faces the wrong way and never corrects itIf you could change any of the entrance animations which would you change? I would change Cloud to where he rides in on a chocobo!
Shulk is running for his life from the Territorial Rotbart. If you could change any of the entrance animations which would you change? I would change Cloud to where he rides in on a chocobo!
You're not wrong, but in some ways there are certainly characters that grow important over time. Not to the extent of some other characters, yes, but it's not such a black and white, right and wrong kind of situation. It can happen and has happened.People need to get over their misconception that a character grows in importance to Nintendo the older they are. Isabelle has been around for less than a decade and she's already more popular and prominents than the majority of the Smash roster and to believe otherwise is silly.

Aside from Ken/Akuma & Shadow I don't really have any predictions. With the big two out of the way I'm pretty much just waiting for the next Direct and for which veterans will be revealed on blog so I can re-display my amiibo collection. At the moment I'm skeptical about new franchises beyond Splatoon/Castlevania until DLC is announced from what Sakurai has revealed thus far and that I feel most franchises are well represented now.Just wondering, how many people here expect the "predictable" outcome of a few unique newcomers, all of them being ballot choices like Isaac, Geno, Skull Kid, etc. Right now, this is what I generally see of Smashboards speculation right now.

Wasn't the VA for Palutena in Smash 4 not the same as the one in Uprising? I thought they had a replacement for some reason. This is off the beaten path, but I feel like neither Codec Conversations nor Palutena's Guidance are going to be returning. The Japanese voice actor for Colonel Campbell has unfortunately passed away, and the English voice actress for Palutena in Smash 4 has recently retired her role as that character specifically.
I'm actually confident in not being particulary surprised. But I mostly pedict on likehood and not spesific roster. I just sort characters into Shoo-in/Likely/Coinflip/Plausible/Unlikely/Possible/Impossible. And most things get scored low.Just wondering, how many people here expect the "predictable" outcome of a few unique newcomers, all of them being ballot choices like Isaac, Geno, Skull Kid, etc. Right now, this is what I generally see of Smashboards speculation right now.

Yeah Uprising was Ali Hillis and Smash 4 was Brandy Kopp.Wasn't the VA for Palutena in Smash 4 not the same as the one in Uprising? I thought they had a replacement for some reason.
I think Kirby belongs there in that group. The Kirby series might not be as big as AC, but the marshmellow himself is a star. He literaly rides one.Nintendo-owned characters that Isabelle beats out in prominence:

Nintendo-owned characters that beat or match Isabelle in prominence:
And even then I'm not overly comfortable putting Diddy, Jr., or Ganondorf there.
I'm all for more anti heroes and villains in the lineup, vareity is the spice of life and Smash has been mostly heroic characters for it's lifespan. Here's another question.
Do you guys feel we still need more villains, or do you think we're good where we are at?
This isn't a "I think X villain should be in Smash" question, I am speaking purely based on quantity, not who that quantity is made up of.
To recap, we haveas the general consensus. Some of them aren't full blown villains, yes, but they've mostly prominently been on the "not really a hero" spectrum more often than not. You can still probably give or take a few of these guys if you genuinely don't think one a bad guy.
I mostly ask because I remember a good chunk of people always wanting more villains in both Brawl and Smash 4's days. With every character returning and a solid 3 new villains to the lineup, do you think that's enough? Because if I'm being honest, I really don't want another villain beyond what we have. I think this is just the right quantity.
And possibly deconfirm Tails through an entrance animation?I'd make Sonic's have him jumping off the Tornado as it flies past the stage.
I think we can always use more villains/rivals. Though I think we've got the major absences covered. Something about playing as the bad guy has always felt cool to me.Here's another question.

And for me I seem to either like the super goody good or their anti hero equal (or both).I think we can always use more villains/rivals. Though I think we've got the major absences covered. Something about playing as the bad guy has always felt cool to me.
I think that after K. Rool, Dark Samus and Ridley, we are set. Anymore would just be a bonus. Here's another question.

You forgot Greninja. There has never been a time where the base smash roster included extremely recent characters (I guess Roy in Melee would be the only exception to that).
Sonic could be flying the plane himself and jump out much like the Star Fox characters do, it’s actually his plane and not Tails’ plane, after all. I didn’t think it’s really so fitting for Sonic in general though, the Tornado isn’t really his thing even though it makes sense canonically? And possibly deconfirm Tails through an entrance animation? Please no.
Well I think it would be great to have villains/rivals from unrepresented series like the Black Knight, Shadow, maybe Akuma. Here's another question.

We also have the Inklings, since the female one is the default version. Though, given how many female additions there were in Smash 4, it might very well be that Sakurai isn't that concerned about female newcomers for this game, possibly assuming that people are already satisfied in that regard.I think that after K. Rool, Dark Samus and Ridley, we are set. Anymore would just be a bonus.
What I think we need right now is a female newcomer. Daisy is all alone in that regard.
Just to make sure, we're talking about Brandy Kopp, right? Because Aya Hillis wasn't in Smash 4.the English voice actress for Palutena in Smash 4 has recently retired her role as that character specifically.
I always found that funny how Sonic owned the plane and Tails just borrows it... and gets it wrecked on a regular basis.Sonic could be flying the plane himself and jump out much like the Star Fox characters do, it’s actually his plane and not Tails’ plane, after all.
Maybe though they could have an animation that shows off Sonic’s speed, like, have him blast onto the screen from the side at Mach speed and then screech to a halt, then pose.
