Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Gen 2 reps: Pichu

Gen 4 reps: Lucario

Gen 6 reps: Greninja

Gen 1 reps: Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Mewtwo, Red, Leaf, Charizard, Ivysaur, Squirtle

We have enough from Gen 1
I think thi sis my main problem with genwunnerism, If kanto was some kinda of forgotten region the devs didn't care about centering on the new fad, i would totally be open for gen 1 representation...

but even if you don't count pikachu, more than half of the pokemon roster is already gen one...is too much ask for the genwunners to be satisfied and let the pther part of the fandom enjoy other choices? :x

As long as we all agree Pokemon Snap is the best Pokemon game, I can agree to a truce.

time to buy an old DS and hunt down a copy of Pokemon white or white 2.
The 3ds can run ds games.
What would Nintendo gain from promoting gen v?
Haxorus, Gothitelle, Druddigon, Liligant, Genesect, Zoroark, etc. These pokemon can work quite well. And Zoroark just so happens to have a decent amount of fans. Not to mention we still need a gen 5 rep.

Because the Pokemon Company hates money. Hence why Pokemon Snap didn't hit the Wii U virtual console until very late in it's lifespan

Generation 1 is slow, and buggy.

I get the nostalgia glasses for it, but going back to Gen 1 on a repeat playthrough on the 3DS just pointed out how painfully slow it is.

Gen 2 basically fixed a lot of gen1's issues and introduced **** like breeding, which made the gameplay so much more complex.

Also the characters are just bland as hell. The only 2 characters with any personality are Blue(generic jerk) and Giovanni(Generic evil), everyone else spits out one or two sentences, battle them, and then nothing else ever.

Once Blastoise is a fighter I'll be satisfied. Until then, I won't be even if it takes the other 140+ pokemon to get him in

I don't care if not enough people will buy it. Those of us who will will buy it 5 times. Do it Nintendo! Make sequels to all of the photography IP you own!

Actually Red and Blue aren't the protagonist and rival iirc.
Also regardless of that **** Gen 1
Except they totally are and it's even stated in the opening that blue is 'your rival'

We have enough from Gen 1
Well if you look at things at face value

Gen 1 just had a hit anime, and we have two gen 1 games coming out on switch

Many would argue that warrants a rival newcomer. Whether it's team rocket, Giovanni, or Blue I think it's a very real possibility gen 1 sees some more much needed love.

Blue can use Pidgeot, Blastoise, and Arcanine.

I don't know if any have been de confirmed but saying gen 1 has enough reps is very subjective imo a rival rep is needed and then I'll be happy with gen 1s representation and we can talk about gen 3 after.

I would like to see a more focused Pokémon trainer who uses his/her 3 Pokémon with a specific strategy that rewards switching out.

Example: Nidoran is the first Pokémon and he/she knows poison sting. The sting does low damage, but very slowly builds more. While that damage is building, you can switch to Haunter and use Hex/Venoshock. If you hit while they are poisoned, the damage is much greater. While you’re Haunter you can use hypnosis, then change to Hypno and use dream eater.

Those may not work well with the game, but I would like to see synergy among the Pokémon used in the team.

I always thought Gardevoir would be an interesting Smash fighter, then the so called "leak" with her happened, and now I'm sitting here really wanting it even though I don't see it happening. I just want Gen 3 representation.

A Gen V rep is needed and then I'll be happy with non-gen 1 representation and we can talk about gen 1 after.

Nope, new rival is called Trace. Blue will appear but not as the rival

Honestly, Gen 1 has the essence of pokemon represented so I'm fine with it as it is.

Pikachu as the mascot
Mewtwo as the darker side of Pokemon and the most iconic legendary
Charizars, Ivysaur, Squirtle as the starters and Pokemon everyone has to choose. (Though if I had my way, they'd all be fully evolved, but hey, I'm not Mr. Sakurai.)

If I recall correctly, Smash 4 could only give the Miis generic weapons :4miibrawl::4miigun::4miisword:for their stock icons due to the customizable nature of the character. But now that they have a face :ultmiifighters:how's that gonna go?
It will probably be used to identify all 3 of them.

If I had my way we'd have Wartortle (best stage of any starter imo) and Bulbasaur (best gen 1 first form imo). Then we'd still get the exact same evolution theme, but I'd play Pokemon Trainer 5 times as often.

Blue is my favorite character but and he really doesn’t become all that cool until later games as he develops as a character as he gets older but I don’t get this whole “generic jerk” thing. He was arrogant and thought he was better than you (Red) despite losing every time but he really wasn’t much of a jerk. Gary from the show was a jerk, but Blue himself more often than not just spouted how good he was, or gave you small tips, and even complemented you when facing him. The biggest jerk move he’s done was telling his sister not to give you a map, which was at the beginning of the game.

That’s why I like a lot about Gen 2.

Looking back at it, the original games are so buggy, broken, and messy as a game that there a bajillion glitches and you can even beat the game with just a single starter Pokémon.

Gen 2 basically was a massive improvement over Gen 1 in terms of programming, design, music, and overall content as it allows you to go through two regions, that I’m surprised isn’t talked a lot about since it shows how Game Freak has grown in such a sort time when it comes to the series.

I guess it’s really just the damn nostalgia, which isn’t necessarily bad, but in terms of Smash there’s just a sour taste when only 2 completely different Pokémon are from 2-7. There’s a lot of popular Pokémon from 3, 5, and 7 to choose from that can be unique, so I kind of don’t want them to miss an opportunity like this with Gen 7 right now. Heck even throw in a Gen 3 mon since they are also very popular from a well known (and even nostalgic) region like Sceptile.

Also, Gen 1 basically 'had' no plot.

Need I remind you, this is the game where Team Rocket holds an entire city ransom... but no one's allowed in because 4 douchebags sitting at their guard stations need a drink.

Also if I had to pick the gen 5 pokemon i'd choose Genesect. I feel like he'd fit in perfectly in smash. He's also really cool!

I'm not talking about the remake? They're not even out yet
That's a matter of opinion, many don't think gen v is great while many do.

But the facts we do have is that Nintendo is aiming for a hero vs rival motif, Blue will be the rival in an upcoming gen 1 remakes for switch, Nintendo will be very keen to promote this new game as Pokemon is a system seller especially gen 1.
You literally did. Unless you mean a second Red and Blue remake, because we sure as **** don't have enough Kanto after a ****ton of megas, the Kanto starters in XY and Alolan Pokemon being Kanto only and Let's Go.

Gen 2 has it's fair share of glitches if you know where to look.

I like finding glitches in these games.

In one of my VC games I have the ability to turn ANY Pokemon shiny because of glitch

I’d love something like Hydreigon or Breloom in Smash as playable. Won’t ever happen, but those are my favorites. I’ve got my third favorite mon in Puff in the game though

Don't you remember from yesterday? Gen 1's plot is objectively the best. It's also the most difficult Pokemon game. :p

I mean... if Smash 4 (including Smash 3DS) can automatically generate a CSS and GUI portrait for Miis, it could be changed to also generate a headshot this time, too.
Take the head, disable the shading and/or flatten it out (like how they use a flattened out version of the Mii's head for Kirby's Mii hats,) remove the features other than the head itself, hair, and eyebrows, and take a picture of it.

Honestly I would be a tad upset if Gen 1 got another rep. Gen 3 needs love. Give this genthree'er(???) his wish.

Well yeah, but I watched a lot of Pokémon glitches videos and guides before and trust me, it’s definitely isn’t to the same extent nor as broken as the originals.

Unlike Gen 1 though, a lot of Gen 2 glitches allow you access to removed content like a Color pallets change, mini games, etc. It’s definitely fun but not as mind boggling as Missingno in Gen 1.

I will say I did like that Gen V made some of the gym leaders feel a bit more like characters than just temporary roadblocks in the game.

Every time a gen 1 hater hates on gen 1 my love for gen 1 grows more absolute.
