Let's be honest. We already have enough gen 1 reps.

That's subjective and depends on the person, many people love gen 1 and would claim we don't have enough like myself.

Make Blue use Totodile, Grotle, and Emboar.

Blue has never used those Pokemon so that would be a big spit in the face just to appease those who don't want gen 1 reps.

No thank you. I don't care if it was the the first region, other regions exist and they deserve representation as well.

Why do they deserve representation just because they exist? They need more going for them than existing to find an excuse to cram them in or we would have gotten a gen V and Gen III Rep by now.

Dude, all you need to do is take one cursory glance at that image to see that it's not a screenshot from Ultimate. I would think you would recognize Ultimate Yoshi's model considering how many times I'm sure you've visited his character page.

Gen V is great. Victini, Darminitan, Lillipup family, Musharna, Krookodile, Trubbish, Chandelure... Seriously, all those are gems and there's a ton more too.

I just thought of something very interesting to speculate about ...kind of off topic from what everyone else is talking about but anyways, what if Sakurai adds Nightmare from Soul Caliber as a odd curve ball and he plays a major role in whatever the spirits mode may be. I’m not saying his inclusion is likely but the only reason i would see him getting in is Nintendo’s clever way of paying respect for what Soul Caliber ii did with Link. Imagine him teaming up with Taboo, Ganon, Ridley, Mewtwo, skull kid (assuming he’s in), and all the other villains.

Another interesting character I saw in one leak, can’t remember which one it was but it said Tekken gets represented through Heihachi...if this is true then smash would have almost every major 3rd party fighting game.

Last thing...when looking on villains wikia I found this Nightmare bio about its personality to be very interesting: “In the games, Nightmare has been portrayed as a violent, ruthless, emotionless, aggressive, and detrimental misanthrope, constantly in search of souls to restore Soul Edge”
That had me thinking...if they included Nightmare he would fit perfectly into the spirits mode if it has some type of plot line. What if Nightmare has all the villains/bosses as his henchmen sent to retrieve the spirits/souls of the heroes for him. I think it would be really cool to see an adventure mode where you have some type of hero and villain version of the mode (well that’s to say if spirits mode has any type of story line at all which doesn’t seem too unlikely imo).

It would fit. I could dig it. Heihachi is more likely(smash 4 mii costume predictions), but I would accept them into the smash family, either one.

Okay okay, I get it. Never once touched that feature of the 3DS version, thick outlines worked just fine for me. I just assumed it wasn't polished like many of the features of Ultimate

Oh, I'd love Nightmare to be playable.
But boy, he is not the type of guy who would be commanding or ordering people around. He just kinda... walks around beating up people.

Maybe I’m a kook...but I love all generations of Pokémon...because they all added more Pokémon I love so I can ignore the ones I hated.

I mean....who doesn’t love Vanillice? Spoink was also good.

That's a matter of opinion, many don't think gen v is great while many do.

But the facts we do have is that Nintendo is aiming for a hero vs rival motif, Blue will be the rival in an upcoming gen 1 remakes for switch, Nintendo will be very keen to promote this new game as Pokemon is a system seller especially gen 1.

What would Nintendo gain from promoting gen v? Who will play smash and think well this Victini fellow is pretty cool time to buy an old DS and hunt down a copy of Pokemon white or white 2.

Pokemon should be judged by their own merit.

The only reason people divide them into generations and say we should get one from each gen is because they know the Pokemon is not good enough to be in by its own merit alone but want it anyway.

If the best Pokemon turn out to be all from the same generation than so be it.

The "About" section on the official site currently says "71 Fighters!" because it counts echoes as separate and Pokemon Trainer as a single character.

I'm a huge Pokemon fan, but I've always like Gen 1 the best. Simply because it is where I started playing. Pokemon Red really hooked me and really got me into gaming even more. Also, loved Gen 2, and recently enjoyed the X/Y games.

That being said, other Generations definitely deserve some love. Honestly, I'd love to see a Team Rocket member/Giovanni as a character with three different Pokemon, much like the Pokemon Trainer. But, let their Pokemon be from the newer series. I don't think that would be too off, right? I don't know much about the new Rainbow Rocket stuff, but surely they could pull some stuff from the current Gen? If not, then give me an Alolan Trainer or a Rival Trainer. I'd be happy.

Actually Red and Blue aren't the protagonist and rival iirc.
Also regardless of that **** Gen 1, it's been getting so much love while ignoring almost everything else since X and Y

You'd be surprised how many other franchises people have gotten into because of Smash Bros.
The most famous is probably Marth and Roy convincing people to buy FE7, the first Fire Emblem to ever hit Western shores and the start of a worldwide franchise.
And also the one with Lyn.
