Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

We're talking about possible new bosses for each series, but a lot of you are forgetting that we already have quite a few bosses as actual characters in the game now. I think some will be giant characters (Ridley/K.Rool with a Mushroom effect) and others will be actual bosses.

I imagine that you'll still have to fight a lot of characters in order to unlock them, but seriously, imagine fighting a giant Ridley/K.Rool to get them as characters...

Well, the only thing we know for sure is that another Mario character is going to die next Smash presentation.
Bowser, Mario, and Peach fighting against Smithy. Smithy blasts out one of them with his Tank head

Geno comes in to save the day

For direct competitors they've been getting awfully chummy lately. I don't think you allow one of your most popular IPs to appear on what you consider to be a "rival" system.

You're talking about Banjo not appearing on Nintendo platforms when Clouds only Nintendo appearance was in a gba and ds game? Banjo Kazooie was literally a Nintendo character, you don't get more of an intimate relationship with Nintendo than that. (at least not as a third party character)

Oh I didn't realise that was what you meant. Yeah I get that, I'm not saying Sakurai wouldn't be interested in Master Chief if they did suggest him. (just that his primary focus would probably be Banjo & Kazooie)
You have to realize that Square-Enix is not a competitor with Nintendo. They do not own a console; they simply make games and put it on PC/ other consoles. It's much easier to say Yes to Cloud because of it. Square-Enix competes with other games in its genre and even then there are companies that gets Square to publish their games such as Star-Ocean etc. Microsoft now owns Banjo and has made him exclusive to their console to no one surprise. Not saying, he can't happen but Steve admittedly has better chances since he's muti-platform as much as I hate to say it.

Ya know, in futur interview after the release of the game, I would really like to hear how easy a echo fighter is to make. Some might say that's obvious but I would still like words from the man himself. Especially if echo fighter can be made mid-developpement, long after the roster was decided due to how easy they are to put together.
I think I'm the most curious about whether or not Echoes this time around were planned in advance. We have 3 newcomers so far with potentially more to come (Shadow/Ken or Akuma). I wanna know if Sakurai had to go back to Konami mid-development and ask for Richter.

I didn't grow up playing a lot of Castlevania games (only played one obscure cell phone port), but being able to fight as Link in Dracula's Castle (with probably the best video game tracks in a Smash game) and fighting Dracula as a boss not only makes me want to start playing Castlevania games, but makes me wish for a Legend of Zelda X Castlevania crossover. Man, where am I even gonna start with the Castlevania games, though...
I would just start with the original as Ultimate is borrowing the most from it; Dracula's Castle literally looks like an HD remake. It takes a little bit of practice but it is much more do-able than a lot of video reviews make it out to be.

Stage 1: Easy.
Stage 2: Takes a little practice but is fairly standard.
Stage 3: Igor has delay frames after landing/before jumping, so let him come to you. Boss is tough, but there is a pork chop/safe spot for projectiles.
Stage 4: Practice. Don't let the Igors build up as you progress through the section with the birds. Frankenstein is tough so try your best to dodge.
Stage 5: Holy water nukes everything here and there are several hidden pork chops. Overall much easier than Stage 4 IMO.
Stage 6: Good luck. If you can endure it to Dracula's staircase, you get to re-start there after a game over. Hit Dracula with forward jump attacks and spam holy water for phase two. It will take a couple rounds to get the spacing correct on phase one when he teleports, but there is a rhythm to counterattacking.

It's be funny if Isabelle isn't actually a character but gets the first DLC slot from people talking about her so much

Sceptile did fairly well. However, that was largely because Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire were the latest games and people wanted a grass type on the roster. In a world where Ivysaur is back and US/UM are the newest games, Sceptile is a lot less appealing.
Heh, I don't know, Gen 3 is a pretty underepresented gen in Smash, with many fan wanting more from it, maybe it wouldn't get much excitement as a Gen 7 Pokemon. But I feel like there would still be alot of peoples happy.

I think the only thing that might get a "no" from the Smash team would be if Sceptile wouldn't have enough to work with. But considering the decent job they did with Ivysaur ( mostly in his specials, which all reference moves in Pokemon), I feel like it could be a 50/50 kind of deal.

That bein said, I admit I kinda want Sceptile/Grovyle due to PKMN Dungeon Mystery's nostalgia, but even with that, my number 1 would still be Zoroark, who....sadly, have no chance to get in at all.

Wasn't Richter put in to please the Japanese fanbase who don't care about Simon that much? If yes, I feel like it could have been a early decision, tho, who know for sure at this point.

At this point, I think it's almost confirmed that there will be DLC. Sakurai recently stated that he'll keep on making Smash games as long as there's demand, and since there probably won't be another one for a while, I'm almost certain that means he'll be working on DLC after the game is released. Since the Switch is a successful console, I imagine we'll get it for twice as long, or even longer this time.

I think there's two ways they can do DLC:
>The way they did it in the Wii U/3DS versions (buy characters/stages/etc. on the game's store page)
>Attach it to the Switch online service and distribute all extra content updates if you subscribe to it (extra incentive to have it)

Hideout Helm would be dope, but that probably would’ve been revealed with K Rool.

A minecart stage would also be interesting. Maybe a moving one to different DKC locations

Unpopular opinion but new fans also deserve fanservice.

Someone made a Templare for Smash Bros Ultimate Wishes

Here are my picks

Isabelle - The face of Animal Crossing and a popular character in her own right. She hasn't been seen thus far, so I think she may already be in.
Slippy - I'm a fan of Star Fox, and with Krystal deconfirmed, he's my most wanted. Even made a moveset for him in the Slippy Support Thread.
Shadow - If Castlevania can get a second character, no reason why Sonic shouldn't. And since Chrom has a different Up Special, give him Teleport.
Krystal - My most wanted newcomer since Brawl, and it's bittersweet to see her as an Assist Trophy. Hopefully she'll join the fray next time.
Andross - I think Andross would make for a great boss fight. Attack his hands as they come in while avoiding his various attacks from the games.
Tricky - Can you tell I have a bias? I think Tricky would make for a pretty great Assist Trophy, ramming enemies, lighting them on fire, and digging up items.
Incineroar - I still prefer Decidueye and Lycanroc over him, and if ether one of them got in, I'd love to see Incineroar in the game at least in a Poke Ball.
Sauria - So many places in Star Fox, but I opted for a travelling stage of Sauria, taking you to all the major locations from Star Fox Adventures.

I've got a fun game - Design a Classic Mode

Take your favorite character, confirmed or not, and design their respective Gauntlet based on the new style of Classic.

You need to plan out 6 battles (then bonus and then the Master boss) - some 1v1, some 2v2, and some other styles (vs Team, vs Giant, vs Metal, Free for all) - and give each a name, a set of opponents, and a stage. For the opponents and stages, try to stick to confirmed elements and avoid repeats.

Here's mine for the Dragonborn
  1. Training with the Master - 1v1 vs. Link on Great Plateau
  2. Dungeon Delving - 2v2 with Simon vs. Ganondorf and Robin on Castle Siege
  3. Forest Ambush - 1v10 vs. Team Wolf on Gaur Plain
  4. Blessing of Sovngarde - 1vMetal vs. Metal Palutena on Palutena’s Temple
  5. Dragon Battle - FFA vs. Charizard, Corrin, Yoshi on Coliseum
  6. Destroyer of Worlds - 1vGiant vs. Giant Ridley on Bridge of Eldin
Your path for the Dragonborn is pretty clever, ha. Mine will will be for Krystal. It's based off the six Krazoa Tests from Star Fox Adventures.

Test of Observation - 1 vs. 1 - Player vs Inkling on Battlefield
Test of Combat - 1 vs. 10 - Player vs. Team Yoshi on Great Bay
Test of Fear - 1 vs. Metal - Player vs. Metal Ridley on Brinstar Depths
Test of Strength - FFA - Player vs. Bowser vs. Donkey Kong vs. King Dedede on Final Destination
Test of Knowledge - 2 vs. 2 - Player and Fox vs. Mewtwo and Ness on Magicant
Galleon Rematch - 1 vs. Giant - Player vs. Giant King K. Rool on Pirate Ship

Hard Lock: Isabelle
Most Wanted 1st Party: Bandana Dee
Most Wanted 3rd Party: Rayman
Will get their chance another day: Bomberman
Most Wanted Boss: Eggman
Most Wanted Assist Trophy: Aran Ryan
Most Wanted Pokeball: Aegislash
Most Wanted Stage: Bowser's Castle

I could probably substitute Isabelle with Shadow, but at this point I'm expecting both.

Pretty sure he didn't say "fanservice for longtime fans only", just "fanservice".

I'm glad we have characters like Ridley, western Simon, and K.Rool (and pretty soon, Geno). Smash 4 got so many human/anime characters and a lot of the ones with really unique/creative designs were left out.

I found somebody who made this joke tier list on Reddit. How would react to see your main or any character where they are?

I don't want see Link that low, or Toon Link, Mega Man, Fox, Mewtwo, Greninja, Wolf, and about any character I care about.

I don’t agree at all. Literally every character reveal (besides Richter) has been fan-service. Up until now support for Elma hasn’t been that prevalent, especially compared to the likes of Isaac, Banjo-Kazooie, and even Bandana Waddle Dee. And to be honest her game, while being one of my favorite games of all time, isn’t really “remembered”. You could say the same for Isaac and Banjo, but they’re favorites among fans.
I’d have to disagree heavily on this.

Do you think EVERY single newcomer is going to be a fan favorite? I doubt it.

The thing with Elma being likely is that not only did her game came out at the right time of being for Sakurai to consider, plus she has a vastly different play style to anyone on the Smash roster and even the characters that people are throwing out to be fan picks. Not every fighter is going to be a fan favorite. Sure, a majority may be, but there is bound to be one character that not many have asked for, but is chosen to represent something or have a vastly unique moveset. Elma is one of them. And I don’t think anyone is going to bicker about her inclusion when you have the abundance of fan favorites already chosen and revealed. After they showed off Simon and King K. Rool, despite being expected before, everyone switch to the extreme opposite already.

And what are you saying that Elma’s support has fallen? It’s still going strong. There’s even been an increase of support and activity that surrounds Elma.

So what sort of games/characters would you like to see? I'm curious. Who did you vote for on the ballot?
I voted for Snake, but if Xenoblade X came out just a few months before I would have given a vote to Elma.
