I don’t want to use caps but please everyone for the love of Arceus stop using the term “rep”.
Characters don’t get in to just rep something. They do that by default. The term “rep” makes it seem as if Sakurai just decides, “Hey, let’s add Petey Pirahna because he’s a giant ****ing enemy and represents a game!”
That’s ****ing stupid.
We play this because it’s a video game. His job is to make the game fun. It matters more that the character is fun, not that they “represent” something. Base case scenario, they embody something from their game in their moves.
Really though, I HATE...HATE, the word “rep” because it just tears everything down and acts like this isn’t even a video game. It’s like it’s just “Nintendo history for $60” to some people, and if Smash was “Nintendo history for $60” it’d be probably the worst game on the planet.
Yes, that’s an exaggeration.
Remember when everybody thought a Final Fantasy “rep” would come in and “represent” the Nintendo history of SE and Final Fantasy. Wowie, that didn’t work out that way.
Remember when Snake got cut so we all figured 3rd parties had to represent games hat were “more Nintendo” and “not M-rated”? Some people did actually say that. Now look where we are.
Stop talking about reps, and more about fun stuff.
