Can't really rule out him just being a guy who saw the announcement a day early and guessing a newcomer rather than leaking a newcomer.

It's definitely not impossible, particularly since one potential way he learned this information is through the behind the scenes at EVO and he didn't mention anything in the direct otherwise (unlike the E3 leak, which did mention details directly from the presentation). It's still worth keeping his newcomer 'guess' in mind of course as he did get the date right, but it is a fair possibility to bring up.

I have a fun challenge for you all. Imagine if newcomers were revealed in sets of 3, 2 Unique, 1 Echo, and there were 5 sets in total... The 1st was Inkling, Ridley, & Daisy. So there are 4 more sets... how and when would you like these characters to be revealed, & who would be in each set?

Set 2:
King K. Rool, Banjo-Kazooie, Dixie Kong (Echo) the rare package.

Set 3:
Rex&Pryra/Elma, Simon Belmont, Chrom (Echo) Anime dudes

Set 4:
Zelda Character (hopefully we get some race representation and see a Goron, Ruto or Rito), Pokemon Character (7th or 8th gen), Isabelle (Echo) the obvious Nintendo characters.

Set 5:
Heihaichi, Sora, Shadow (Echo) the surprise set, minus shadow.

I feel 15 characters is a bit overboard even if 5 are echoes, though i want all of these characters, maybe not so much shadow but the others.

well the image is interesting...

"yeti" (the mummy wrestler) is considered one of the worst "characters" of the WCW i guess (potentially a bad character reveal?)

its a mummy and the guys guessing at spring man (master mummys in ARMS...just an arms reference?)

its also a wrestler so incineroar perhaps?

Love the idea, but most of your lines have multiple characters needed to get bingo. I don't think we'll see more than one character revealed. To get the middle vertical line you need four character reveals.

Considering it's just a character name, not "this character playable!"; this means that if the character shows up as an Assist Trophy, the space still gets filled.

Also, "Smash Bros. x Final Fantasy", "Smash Bros. x Soul Calibur" & "Smash Bros. x Tekken" could also be a Stage or Assist Trophy, I left it vague deliberately.

Pretty high. I was predicting this one was going to be a full direct but apparently it's a Smash Bros. Direct. If they're aiming for a new General Direct within this month or next you can expect to see it then. If not, then October is a safe bet as Directs are usually two months apart.

SO, if they're counting this Smash Direct as this bi-monthly Direct then October, if this is an outlier and doesn't have any effect on their Direct scheduling then sooner. So, VERY likely we see more between this Direct and release.

Ok, I just had a sudden realization. I think the guy wasn't being coy, I think he's legit just guessing Spring-Man just like we're guessing newcomers. Why do I say that? Here's the thing. I've had this weird feeling since E3, but... this guys knows stuff, BUT, he very specifically knows video stuff. And even more, he specifically knows about videos that are going to be shown on some kind of big event.

So I'm thinking: Maybe this guy doesn't work for Nintendo at all, but works with some company that do their events and he, somehow, sneaks a peek at the video. That's why he didn't exactly know everything correctly about the E3 direct, everything he said sounded like someone that was watching a video muted.

Ok, now, he posted this on the 4th. EVO was still going strong and there was one day before they would be showing that date teaser. I legit believe he only knows about the date and nothing more. And I'm pretty sure he won't be knowing anything about the actual direct either, since that's not going to have a showing on a big event (maybe at the NY Store...? But I think that's streamed too). Maybe something pops up on 4chan today or tomorrow before the direct, but I'm not betting on it, and I'm not betting he knows Spring-Man either

I imagine exact Direct dates are tenuous and easily subject to change, Nintendo as is tends to announce Directs a few days to even just a day prior, so as long as the date is close enough and in the same general ballpark, I don't think it is much a detriment for the given Direct date to not be exact.

Oh, idk if it's been discussed but I think Sakurai's red eye comment means nothing, if he said he put his blood, sweat and tears into the game and the Direct, people would go "OMG BLOOD AND TEARS LIKE THE CASTLEVANIA SONG" too
