Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

On the subject of bosses, I wonder how many would be in the next game, if this were to happen of course. SSE had:
  1. Tabuu, Duon, and Galeom who originated from SSE
  2. Petey Pirahna from Mario
  3. Rayquaza from Pokemon
  4. Porky from Mother/Earthbound
  5. Ridley and Meta Ridley from Metroid
So only a few franchises had bosses representing them. Of course stuff like Mario and Pokemon are locks, but beyond that there's a lot of room for speculation. I would hope, if we were to get bosses, more franchises would get representation.

Why don't we put Infinite from Sonic Forces as the final boss of Smash Bros for Switch?
I'm talking about this guy:

Master Core was the most hardest boss ever, surpassing Tabuu from Brawl.
Also, i know that will have the Smash Bros direct this month (January), but i don't know the day.

What do you think about Infinite being a boss for Adventure Mode in a Smash Bros for Switch?

Well Master Core wasn't just hard for being hard but being a marathon you'd potentially only have one shot at, the amount of times I lost to Master Fortress trying to get that challenge for Marth is uncountable.

Infinite's gotten a lot less popular when people learned part of his backstory, with the other half being unsatisfactory, so I doubt people would be cheering for him. Plus, if the potential boss fight is trying to be accurate to his Forces depiction, then the fight itself will be horribly wasted potential

Brawl Meta Knight should be the final boss.
Who was Master Core and its forms based on?
"Master Core's Swarm bears a huge resemblance to the Dark Matter from Kirby's Dreamland 2 and 3." Taken from the wiki, and I can kind of see it, Master Core and Zero's Dark Matter swarm in Dreamland 3 and Kirby 64's depiction of Dark Matter have the same fuzzy black swarm of particles aesthetic going on, and Master Core's core sort of resembles an eye, but that's about it. There's a resemblance and I can buy Dark Matter inspiring Master Core but I wouldn't say the resemblance is huge.

I'd prefer if they just pretend Sonic Forces never happened and reference one of the better games from the Sonic franchise instead.

Sephiroth could make a good boss considering Cloud is in the game. His powers can include some of his Limit Breaks (Including Octoslash and Supernova), and his super long sword can have both range and power to it.

Then there’s DJ Octavio, who has potential to be a powerful boss if we’re going with his Splatoon 1 incarnation, and Dr. Coyle, who could ideally equip Hedlok when she’s at half health.

One thing that I really appreciated in Brawl was the bosses. I imagine they ate up a lot of development time, but it felt incredible to fight these random Nintendo characters that you'd never expect (particularly Porky and Rayquaza). If Sakurai were to make another mode similar to Subspace Emissary, which characters, whether they're first or third-party, would you like to see as a boss?
Hi! it´s my first time posting in this thread.

I'd love another subspace emissary like mode now that we have more characters and franchises in smash.

Herés what bosses I'd like to see:

:4mario:
Cookatiel from Odyssey, fighting him in a stage based on the pot where you fight him.
Shadow Queen from Paper Mario TTYD.

:4kirby:
02 (Zero 2) from Kirby 64. I love the concept of 02 and all the posibilities that it can bring to Smash with Dark Matter. Also the music.
Marx from Super Star. He could be a hard, very fast villain with a lot of moves.
Any final boss really nwould fit with Smash.

:4myfriends:
Black Knight from the radiant games.
Grima from Awakening. You fight him while on his back.
Xander from Fates. He fights on his horse.

:4dk:
K. Rool if he's not a new addition to the roster.

:4wario:
Giant nose from Smooth Moves

:4miibrawl:
Darkest Lord form Miitopia

:4pit:
Hades. While he mocks you of course.

:4pikachu:
Necrozoma.
Giovanni. You fight his full team.

:4link:
Hinox/Talos from BotW
Molduga from BotW

:4sonic:
Infinite.

:4duckhunt:
Not exactly a boss fight but a stage where you have to run or hide from "the player" shooting you.

:4yoshi:
Giant Baby Bowser from the first Yoshi's Island. You don't fight him directly, you fight some enemies like Shy Guys, Primids or something and you have to send them flying upwards to hit Baby Bowser like Yoshi throws eggs at him.

From Splatoon:
DJ Octavio.

From Arms:
Hedlock.

This is a good question. I play Tekken series so I would say Jinpachi Mishima or Azazel or even NANCY-MI847J would be suitable boss enemies.

I feel like it takes more from the Chaos Kin in KI: Uprising due to the ash-like appearance.

Ironically, some of the characters who debuted in Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 are still present today (such as Silver), and yet that game was among the worst Sonic games ever.

I agree with Master Core being the hardest boss ( it took me only a few tries to beat Tabuu in Intense mode in Subspace Emissary ). This quote is the prime example on why Infinite would be a bad idea for a boss.
That'd incredibly disappointing considering his powers. Then again Forces absolutely wasted his potential so I guess it fits
Truth.
I'd love to see this as a Xenoblade boss for the next Smash:
I do not want this boss in Smash for Switch. Interesting idea but I just do not like it's design. What can it do? It does not seem that major for Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but a boss from that series would be pretty interesting. If it got in I would not complain at all and just deal with the boss. This is my opinion.

What games? Mostly of the Sonic 3D games have received mixed critics.
Why they included Windy Hill Zone (Level from Sonic Lost World) ?

Smash Bros for Switch would include things from the most recent games such as:
  • Super Mario Odyssey
  • Megaman 11
  • Sonic Forces
  • Super Bomberman R
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 2
  • Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  • Pokemon Sun and Moon
That's my theory, unless prove me wrong.

That seems like it would depend heavily on whether or not Konami is willing to cooperate, and whether they would pick Bomberman over Snake (a character that was created by Konami as opposed to being bought from another company, and one who's already been in Smash Bros.). While they could include both Snake and Bomberman (Capcom got both Mega Man and Ryu over the course of a single game), I'm not sure if Konami's recovered their reputation from when they fired Kojima, cancelled Silent Hills, and were leaning towards dropping out of gaming to focus on Japan-exclusive mobile games and pachinko machines.

If we get Bomberman, they'll very likely focus on a classic title like with every other third party character when they first debut.

If it's not a port (which, at this point, it isn't going to be) then what's recent now might not be recent when the game comes out.

For example, if Smash Bros for Switch takes the same time as Smash 4 did, then we'll be looking at a late 2020-early 2021 release. This might be earlier or later but it's a (very) rough estimate. Some more estimating would place Pokémon Gen 8 in 2019 and a possible Punch-Out!! sequel in 2020 (which I really want to happen). Odyssey and BoTW are so popular that they'll probably stay relevant. Sonic Forces is easily plausible, especially if we get Adventure Mode. Not sure about Xenoblade and Bomberman (I agree that, assuming Konami lets him be in Smash, he'd be more classic).

I wonder how the controllers we'll be using for Smash on Switch will be.

I'm guessing the normal switch controller will be similar to the wiiu pro controller and by dividing it in half you'd have 2 controllers with similar layout to the wii remote.

Has anyone here used the Switch Pro Controller? How do it feels?

And does anyone remember that update in the switch that apparently added support for gamecube controller adapters? Could gamecube controllers be returning yet again in smash for switch?

Its when you run into sick suggestions like these, makes you wish you weren't a fan of the series.

The Eggman shaking Wiley's hand is kind of the Mega Man and Sonic crossover all over again though.

The switch pro controller is pretty good and feels good in the hand. I've used it to play some smash on Dolphin and it works pretty well with it.

So I know it' a bit late hoping Amaterasu could still show up in smash brothers but honestly I think the fan move sets aren't quite the most "realistic" options, I'm up late and I've popped the game in my wii U and gone to town, so far here's what I've got (sadly no damage percents because I started not to long ago and anyone who' played Okami or MvsC 3 will know most of these moves or cam imagine them in their head.

Amaterasu smash bros form

Jab: Reflector technique 5 winds
Forward tilt: Rosary technique Spirit Armageddon
Down tilt: God technique Digging champ
Up tilt: Sub "Seven Strike glaive" attack (can be charged like in game)

Up smash: Secret brush technique Inferno tech
Forward smash: Brush technique Power slash (half/full charge breaks sheilds)
Down smash: Secret brush technique Thunderstorm tech

Neutral special: Sub "Devout Beads" attack
Up special: Brush technique Vine
Side special: Glaive technique 4 shears
Down special: Sub "Trinity Mirror" Reflector counter-attack

Neutral air: aerial bead swing
Up air: upwards glaive swing
Forward air: forward glaive swing
Back air: backwards glaive swing
Down air: downward aerial glaive swing

Grab: bite
Pummel: Reflector smack

Up throw: backflip kick into air
Forward throw: hard reflector smack
Back throw: God technique Fleetfoot backwards into throw
Down throw: Throws on to ground and they bounce upward

Dash attack: God technique hardhead

Up taunt: Howls upward like victory howl
Side taunt: crouches, growls and roars like battle intro
Down taunt: yawns, lays down and falls asleep

Victory screen: rising sun up above as howl with fanfare music
Victory screen 2: layed down asleep as issun bouncing around her

Home stage: Gaurdian tree of Kamiki village

Skins: Amaterasu, the 9 karmic transformers

Unique character attributes:
God technique holy falcon: spinning jump animation has hit box
All charges work like in original game
Wall cling has mark of kabegami
Wall jump causes ring of flowers and plants like in game
Run causes plants and changes color the faster you run
Water tablet: Can walk on water
Fire tablet: No flinch for fire
Idle animation: falling asleep like in game

Also, I've tried too keep my move set as close as possible to game specs, all except up, back and forward air are modified because she doesn't really have aerial attacks geared to direction, down air is like primary glaive attack in mid air.

To be fair, SEGA had a lot of games in development at the same time and Silver happned to be in 3 in roughly the same time (06, Rivals and Secret Rings), regardless of 06's reception he was getting pushed into everything so it makes sense they wouldn't just axe him. Anyway, I actually like Infinite and hope he stays in the franchise (Infinite figure skating at the Olympic games when?), I'm just saying I'd rather not add an character as a boss when their only role so far has been in a mediocre game.
What games? Mostly of the Sonic 3D games have received mixed critics.
Any of the well-received ones, I'd like it if they tried referencing games like Sonic 3 (&Knuckles), Sonic Adventure 1-2, Sonic Colors, or Sonic Mania.
Why they included Windy Hill Zone (Level from Sonic Lost World) ?
Because it's from the most recent game, they do that with basically every franchise not named Kirby. I'm not saying "Sonic Forces won't get content", I'm saying I don't want them to give it content since I don't think it's deserving of Smash lol. I'll expect it to get content if it's still the most recent game since we tend to get the most recent stuff (although I can see Mania beating it out because it's been a massive commercial success for Sonic), but that's also not how I want it lol.
You better not be saying Infinite's theme shouldn't be in Smash.
Of course not, Infinite's theme is amazing, I'd be more than fine with it getting in. Sonic Forces getting an stage/character/boss though is where I'd take some issue, music (please?) and trophies are completely fine.

I'm pretty certain they will, if they were added once ("accidentally", but last time I checked controllers don't just magically get all their buttons mapped out, I bet they revealed it too early) they should be completely capable of adding it back in with minimal effort, and considering how far they went to get GC controllers compatible with the Wii U I'd assume they'll go for it again.

Decided to think of some gimmicks for the ARMS characters. Not entire movesets though, that would be crazy.

Spring Man
  • An ability to cancel his ability to charge his ARMS (likely a special) to produce a shockwave that can cancel enemy attacks.
  • Perhaps his perma-charge buff could be obtained by reaching a specific amount of damage?
Ribbon Girl
  • She... honestly doesn't have anything. Yes, she's a multi-jumping fast-faller, but that's not really a "gimmick", is it?
Ninjara
  • Again, no real gimmick, I mean, he could warp while dodging, but that's not really gimmicky, is it?
Master Mummy
  • Would have Bowser's Tough Guy armor, but likely stronger to compensate his mobility (which would likely be slower than Bowser's).
  • Can heal while shielding, though the amount would be pretty small to prevent it from being broken.
Min Min
  • If the ARMS used are based on official artwork, Min Min would have a different ARM on each arm; Dragon on the left, Megawatt on the right.
  • Her ability to kick could be repsented with a tiny hitbox on her foot, which deals no damage or knockback, but can make the opponent flinch. Her frame data on dodges would have some endlag to balance things.
  • Her left arm could remain charged after a full charge, shown by it changing from noodles to dragon.
Mechanica
  • Would have Bowser's Tough Guy armor, like Master Mummy.
  • Would be able to hover.
Twintelle
  • Her time-slowing aura which can sow down incoming attacks, which would likely be tied to a special.
    • Different from Witch Time, as it would slow down the attack as long as it's active instead of being a counter that grants the effect for some time.
    • If Twintelle attacks while it's up, it would dissappear.
Byte & Barq
  • Barq is the gimmick, being a puppet-like AI who attacks and moves on its own while also acting as a platform for Byte (and others) to bounce from.
Kid Cobra
  • A way to boost his mobility, kinda like Cloud's Limit Break, except without the boosted specials.
Helix
  • He could be able to stretch up while holding the jump button, releasing it causing the actual jump.
Max Brass
  • Same as Spring Man, but with an added (and literal) buffing gimmick where be becomes bigger, faster and stronger.
    • When buffed up, he would have the Tough Guy armor.
Lola Pop
  • Her ability to inflate, which would grant temporary super armor. She could also slowly move around forward or backward and cancel it into a higher jump than usual.
    • If tied to the shield button, she would be unable to dodge or air dodge, though the latter won't matter much since she would have a quick aerial shield.
Misango
  • His spirit buddy, which would grant him different boosts or act as a disjointed shield. The boosts he would give depend on the color of the spirit.
    • Red: Nerfs his mobility and jump height, but grants him more strength and the Tough Guy armor.
    • Blue: Nerfs his strength, but grants him more mobility.
    • Yellow: Nerfs his strength, but grants him super armor during smash attacks.
Springtron
  • Would have the mid-charge shockwave like Spring Man and Max Brass
  • Would be able to unleash a pulse-like blast when charging for longer, shutting down enemy attacks. It takes a while to pull it off though, making it pretty risky.
Dr. Coyle
  • She would constantly be hovering, leading to some interesting changes.
    • The jump button wouldn't be a "jump", but rather a way for Coyle to get more height. It would only last a limited amount of time and she wouldn't be able to do it again until she reaches the floor again. If there is no floor below her, well, she's dead.
    • She also wouldn't have a "double jump" since she's technically always in the air. This would mean that her "jumping" prowess would likely be on par with Little Mac's.
    • Despite this, the game would constantly treat her in a grounded state, just like in ARMS, allowing her to grab or preform smash attacks in the air.
  • When she fully charges her ARMS, a third one appears above one of her shoulders, replicating the one below it. Which shoulder it appears on is random.
  • She would have the ability to temporarily cloak herself while shielding or using a get up option too.

So, do you guys think they would keep the FLUDD or incorporate hat throwing for Mario? I still liked Mario in Brawl and Sm4sh, but I never enjoyed using FLUDD. I hope it gets changed!

There's also the fact that Infinite isn't even the final boss in Sonic Forces; that spot belongs to Dr. Eggman. For someone who's supposed to overpower Sonic at everything, you would've expected a lot more out of Infinite, but alas, he's just another one of Dr. Eggman's expendable minions.

Who would want to see a Smash Bros. RPG? I would absolutely love it and honestly, I'd rather have it over another fighting game because I know what to expect if the roster gets larger (basically the same thing).

In fact, give me an anime, comic book, or a movie and I will be at peace. Smash has amazing potential for a story and I'm disappointed that the SSE was such a waste back in Brawl.
That seems like it would depend heavily on whether or not Konami is willing to cooperate, and whether they would pick Bomberman over Snake (a character that was created by Konami as opposed to being bought from another company, and one who's already been in Smash Bros.). Trust me when I say this, Konami will not prevent Bomberman's inclusion in Smash. They may not go straight to Nintendo to make a case but if Nintendo decides to acquire him for the next game, you bet Konami will take advantage of the opportunity to promote his inclusion and the good PR that will come from it. Especially when considering that Konami has declared the game a success.

Snake's cut in Smash 3DS & Wii U was an anomaly probably caused by Kojima's strife with Konami over Metal Gear Solid, which is far worse than what either Mega Man (who got in) or Bomberman got.

It sounds like I'm not the only one who would like to see more sonic universe characters in smash?
It would be pretty strange to see two third parties at once, then again it would also be interesting. The only two Sonic characters that are worth adding is Knuckles and Tails. Sonic is very popular but keep in mind he is a third party character.

Well, Smash 4 introduced the concept of a third-party company having more than one character (SEGA has Sonic and Bayo, Capcom has Mega Man and Ryu), so I wouldn't say it's impossible. Probably not a priority, but still not impossible.

I don't think there's any rules or anything pertaining to more than one character from a third party franchise but I feel like there's very unlikely considering how many possibilities there are for other, more exciting, 3rd party characters.

Hmm talking of Sega.

I'm starting to wonder if Nintendo themselves count Bayonetta as third party. It really seems like they count her as a part of the Nintendo cast.

I saw this else where
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DSstnweVwAAdSBh.jpg

"More Nintendo franchises ... Bayonetta"

As a third party, she stood out compared to the huge icons like Sonic and the other third parties. But maybe she doesn't actually count as third party in the eyes of Nintendo. It'd explain why she got better treatment with more songs and trophies.

I actually hope it becomes officially, it would make things much simpler in my eyes. Make it official.

Hmm talking of Sega.

I'm starting to wonder if Nintendo themselves count Bayonetta as third party. It really seems like they count her as a part of the Nintendo cast.

I saw this else where

Smash brothers needs more third party characters. Third party characters are always the most interesting type of character. What third party character has the highest chances of making it in? I am so confused.

Well, they funded both Bayo 2 and 3.

At this point, it might as well be a situation similar to Pokemon.
