This just kind of came up when I was looking through some old Smash 4 speculation video's and whatnot, but since Miiverse is no more (And I don't believe the Switch has any sort of equivalent of it)
What are the odds of us getting another Smash Dojo type of page coming along when the Switch entry is announced (Much like Brawl did and I think Melee and 64 too?)
And if yes, how do you think it should be structured this time around. I recall some complaints on how the Brawl Dojo revealed too much information before release whereas Smash 4 with it's PotD's took a bit too long, so I suppose a middle ground of some sort might work?
I can't speak for Melee and 64, my visits to those sites have been fleeting at best, but the Dojo was by far my favourite. The updates were substantial, there was a decent amount of memeing, the site itself was more in-depth, and refreshing to see the challenger approaching banner made your heart skip. Especially when you scroll down and it's Sonic.
I don't understand the whole "took too long" complaint with PotD tbh, from the first pics to the release it was only a little over a year, whereas the Dojo went up in 2006, barely updated for a year, then continued updating for almost another year before release. PotD was much shorter, at least from commencement to release. Less substantial too, but it was still definitely better than nothing and more than Sakurai needed to do. And as far as revealing too much? Both left a lot secret. Or at least stringed everyone along very successfully. The DOJO updates might've been more ample, but Smash 4 had two pre-release Directs dedicated to the game... so there was a lot revealed either way.
That said, I imagine, given precedent, there will be some successor to both. I recall Sakurai saying updating the DOJO was hell, so I don't anticipate anything on that scale, but akin to PotD? Sure, I could see something like that.
