Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

As much as I would love Geno in Smash, he's possibly one of the least relevant character suggestions of all time. He's a supporting character for a 20 year old game by a third party developer. He has a chance yes, but astronomically slim. I root for him though.
I honestly don't see Ridley getting into smash in the next 20 years unless he changes completely in the metroid series itself.
Still a better chance than two inconsequential Pokemon NPCs, one who showed up once(?) outside the anime and the other who doesn't fight and would only use a single ill-suited Pokemon if she did. :113:

You've pitted implausible characters vs. nearly impossible ones.

So here's a challenge for you guys.

Jill Valentine, Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy, whatever.

Make a moveset for a Resident Evil Hero that doesn't focus on realistic guns.

For this new poll I voted for the last option.

For the simple reason that, with how big of a deal the next generation on Switch will be, we'll for sure get a rep from it.

I agree with this now. A Resident Evil character a blend right in Smash. I can see Leon Kennedy actually chosen though.

This just kind of came up when I was looking through some old Smash 4 speculation video's and whatnot, but since Miiverse is no more (And I don't believe the Switch has any sort of equivalent of it)

What are the odds of us getting another Smash Dojo type of page coming along when the Switch entry is announced (Much like Brawl did and I think Melee and 64 too?)

And if yes, how do you think it should be structured this time around. I recall some complaints on how the Brawl Dojo revealed too much information before release whereas Smash 4 with it's PotD's took a bit too long, so I suppose a middle ground of some sort might work?

I can't speak for Melee and 64, my visits to those sites have been fleeting at best, but the Dojo was by far my favourite. The updates were substantial, there was a decent amount of memeing, the site itself was more in-depth, and refreshing to see the challenger approaching banner made your heart skip. Especially when you scroll down and it's Sonic.

I don't understand the whole "took too long" complaint with PotD tbh, from the first pics to the release it was only a little over a year, whereas the Dojo went up in 2006, barely updated for a year, then continued updating for almost another year before release. PotD was much shorter, at least from commencement to release. Less substantial too, but it was still definitely better than nothing and more than Sakurai needed to do. And as far as revealing too much? Both left a lot secret. Or at least stringed everyone along very successfully. The DOJO updates might've been more ample, but Smash 4 had two pre-release Directs dedicated to the game... so there was a lot revealed either way.

That said, I imagine, given precedent, there will be some successor to both. I recall Sakurai saying updating the DOJO was hell, so I don't anticipate anything on that scale, but akin to PotD? Sure, I could see something like that.

A dream would be a weekly mini-Direct conducted by Masahiro himself.

Every move has Jill Valentine dodge a zombie, which hits another player instead.

I think the Pics of the Day were pretty successful among the fanbase, aside from the occasional long wait time as well as the pics that only existed for jokes (the ones that didn't provide any new information or even teased anything, to be specific) so I can definitely see us getting something along the lines of a PotD again, even though the system will have to be different since Miiverse isn't around anymore, nor does the Switch have something similar, as you mentioned.

I'd like to see something like the PotD again, but I'd much prefer if we got fewer "joke" pics. Or maybe that's just my memories of frequently staying up very late waiting for the pics to be posted speaking....

It's true that it doesn't have any replacement for Miiverse, but it was pictures that were shared, not drawings.

Considering that, the Switch's News section is a perfect replacement.

The Switch News thing is probably what they'll use. Maybe make it Weekly, so that it doesn't clutter it up. Or make a new website. Not that hard.

A weekly one could work, since there won't be as much of a need for filler as the PotDs.
As much as i enjoyed getting a few different bits of information during most days of the week, I wouldn't have any problem with it being weekly instead this time around if it meant much less filler.

As long as we don't get stuff like Luigi's Nose.

That's example of one of the worst Pic of the Days.

We'd likely get another dojo if we got a new smash announced.

If it was a port I would wonder if they would just update the current site.

Oh God I remember that one. That one was definitely a dedicated joke/filler image as far as I'm concerned. That's what I'd like to see less of if we get something similar to the Pics of the Day for the next entry. Even if some of those filler pics did make for decent jokes and memes in the fanbase later on. :p

Waiting for many of those pictures was certainly an "experience", I don't know how else to describe it.

It's possible that development on a new Smash Bros. game has already started? :secretkpop:

Edit: A NEW game, not a Deluxe & Knuckles edition

I doubt it. Sakurai still working on something else after all... right?
It's possible, Mr. Sakurai does seem to be working on something else (could be Smash but involving mechs/guns?) which is probably an 3DS game because he was reportedly surprised by the Switch features revealed during the Switch direct, but Nintendo doesn't actually need Mr. Sakurai to start making Super Smash Bros. for them, he's just one man.

Especially since the one man who would go out of his way to ask for Sakurai to work on it is dead...

Yeah, I could see Nintendo just ditching Sakurai to make Smash without him nowadays.

So, guys. Would you want Stamina Mode and Coin Fest to come back?

Would you want some changes to those modes?

Would you want some new fight modes?

Coin Mode as silly fun. Stamina was already part of the regular options since Melee. I just want Bonuses back(they can keep certain ones out, like No Damage Run), and Bonus Mode back.

Stamina should come back and be part of the standard rules (time stock coin) rather than be part of the special smash

I would want Claire Redfield, but she's probably least likely than the other 3 protags.

Her moveset would consist of her melee attacks from The Mercenaries 3D, REV2 and Darkside Chronicles. The weapons that I think would fit her are her broken Code Veronica knife, bowguns, both spread and single shot, and grenade launcher.
