Gen 7 has a surprising amount of potential candidates for Smash. Any of the starters really, Lycanroc, Mimikyu... then there’s the plot-related Tapu Koko and Ultra Beasts. Not to forget movie stars like Marshadow and probably that other thing next year.

It's at this point you lost any sort of credibility.
I've never argued that Decidueye "will never happen".

I have, however, given reasons for why Decidueye isn't the undeniably most likely option that many people such as yourself want to claim it is and I've given reasons as to why certain other options were more likely. Some of which after time has passed, I've changed my position on (as in I see Decidueye being higher on the list of likelihood).

But I'm terribly sorry you see any reasoning that doesn't lead to the glorious god you worship being the most likely as "asinine". I really am.

I tend to be a bit modest with my votes since Smash throws all kinds of surprises at me, but I definitely think a Pokemon newcomer is likely. The franchise is one of the big guns, history shows Pokemon newcomers are pretty safe to expect, and there's so much potential to work with, even when the possibilities are limited to new Pokemon within the current generation.

Even though I know my beloved Marill will never enter the fray, I'll be excited about pretty much any Pokemon's inclusion, or the return of the veterans (particularly Ivysaur; always thought the moveset was very interesting). Can't wait to see what happens!

Just want to point out that, no matter who or what the comparison is, it almost always goes down like this.

And as for the whole Incineroar vs Decidueye thing? Not taking sides here, but Incineroar has an attack that makes him basically piss fire, and if he did that in Smash, it would be the most glorious thing to have ever occurred in Smash history.

I ain't even joking. I'll gladly take Incineroar over Decidueye just for that move.

I like the idea of Paper Mario. I would claim he's my choice for a new Mario rep but, its realistically unlikely. Sakurai sees the Paper Mario series as a one time thing.
