Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Sure! Note: This is ideals, not some are not realistic. I'd probably go inane if I had to pick likely choices for some of these. "..." means that I had to grasp at straws

SNES: Marx (Kirby Super Star), Kamek

N64: Paper Mario, Waluigi

GC: ... Krystal, Midna

Wii: Tabuu (SSBB), Girahim

Switch: Spring Man,... Rex/Pyra

3DS: Decidueye, Badge Bunny

DS: Sylux, Maxwell

GBA: Fawful, Grovyle

I wish Nintendo made an fighting arena for all the supporters of characters to fight against each other, that way there'd be no flame wars, who would need those when we'd have actual wars instead? They would be so much more fun!

Isn't that basically what the Mii fighters and the "settle it in Smash" slogan are for?

Did you? Let's check it out.

Well, you're not wrong, you did say the word "likely"

Except it has the un- prefix and is in a different sentence that actually supports your fake claim.
Honestly, I seen this coming. I'm serious. Like, someone always has to literally attempt to put me down. I can't stand you Smash experts.

Here's my last word to you since I'm clearly not on your level, don't reply to anymore of my posts.

You've been warned.

I just want to know what is meant by "Sakurai sees Paper Mario as a one-time thing".

I literally don't understand the context.

NES: Takamaru, Mike (StarTropics)
SNES: Mike Anderson's ST Falcon (Battle Clash), King K. Rool
N64: Saki Amamiya, Ray (Custom Robo)
GCN: Professor E. Gadd, Chibi-Robo
Wii: Zip/Pip (FlingSmash), Captain Toad (Super Mario Galaxy)
Wii U: Inkling, Elma
Switch: Spring Man, Snip/Clip (Snipperclips)
GB: Muddy Mole, Prince of Sablé
GBC: Shantae, Toki Tori
GBA: Isaac, Jill (Drill Dozer)
DS: Kyle Hyde, Sylux
3DS: Mallo, Qbby
Other: Mappy (arcade), Bub/Bob (original arcade version of Bubble Bobble)

GBC was the hardest since I was putting extra unnecessary limits on my choices... Anyway, this was fun!

Edit: I think I could put some better (?) choices in there and take moveset potential into consideration more, but man, I spent so much time on this already, I'll just have to live with my mistakes. LOL

Somewhere out there on this big blue marble
Her first appearance was on the PS2 in 2006. Okami didn't release on the Wii until 2008.
Well give Ammy the Infinite treatment and add Magolor I guess.

Honestly, I like how lots of people chose Takamaru on Swamp's thing

Do any of you guys think that the next smash could have unlockable costumes for all characters? They could be unlocked by things like 'Clear Classic on max difficulty with X character' or 'win x amount of competitive matches with x character'
Here are some of my ideas:
Mario- Any Oddysey costume
Luigi- Mr L
Peach- Lina (Doki Doki Panic)
Bowser- Dry Bowser
Yoshi- Punk Yoshi (TTYD)
Wario- Wario Land Design
DK- Funky/Swanky/Bluster
King K rool- Kaptain/Baron/Boxer
Ganondorf- Aghanim/Demise/Malice
Fox- James McCloud
Wolf- Original 64 Design
Game and watch- Chef

Any ideas?

If we get costumes like that, I really don't think they should be other characters.

Maybe inspired by other characters (for example, DK could wear Funky's clothes but still be DK), but not actually other characters.

Fair enough, but I still think James could be a Fox costume as Fox dresses like james when playing in expert mode in 64

Other characters could work in some cases, like Olimar and Alph or Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings. But in those cases, the main bulk of the moveset wasn't the character itself, which is why it can work well.

Something like a Matthew outfit for Isaac can work too, since the former is the latter's son and even does similar things (like father, like son, eh?).

But yeah, can't really work for everyone.

Peach- Lina (Doki Doki Panic)
I think they'd need the licensing of Fuji Television for that one.

Maybe they'll actually do it, but chances are they might just try to look for something else.

You know when I first saw the starter pokemon for the Alola region I was really excited for Litten. I've always loved fire types, and combined with my favorite animal (cats) I thought this was going to be my spirit Pokemon.

And then I saw its evolution tree.

Ugh. Words cannot describe the revulsion and disappointment I felt when I saw what Litten evolved into. I was hoping he would be a huge, badass quadrupedal beast of a tiger or lion or something, but instead they came out with that Swat Kats nonsense, looking like a rejected Disney mascot costume.

I'm still upset about it. To know that something as cool as these fan designs was never going to happen.

This is pretty cool, just not the typing.

Fire/Ground is bad.

Outside of a 4x weakness against Water-type attacks, Fire/Ground isn't that bad of a type combination. And let's not forget that Primal Groudon's Desolate Land ability renders Water-type moves useless, so it only has to worry about Ground-type attacks if there are no weather-negating abilities in play.

No it's not. Fire/Ground is a great typing. Its only weak to Water and Ground- with Water dealing 4x damage. Its resistants are Fire, Poison, Bug, Fairy and Steel, and immune to Electric.

The only two Fire/Ground types we have are Primal Groudon and Numel''s line. And Mega Camerupt is bad, but not because of its typing.

EDIT: Numel is awesome in LC battles.

EDIT 2: A bit harsh on terminology- Mega Camerupt isn't bad- just not fantastic.

Flamethrower (or Fire Blast), Earth Power, and Flash Cannon do get the Sheer Force treatment. Sadly, there isn't much else in Camerupt's special movepool that's worth using that gets boosted by Sheer Force.

No. I’m doing Virtual Boy newcomers too. You can’t stop me.

NES: Mike Jones and Alucard
GB: Daisy and Captain Syrup
SNES: (really I need like ten more of these slots) K Rool And Geno
GBC: General Onox and Veran
Virtual Boy: Harry (teleroboxer) and Nester (nester’s Funky bowling)
N64: Waluigi and Master Hand
GBA: Fawful and Vaati
GC: King Boo and Chibi Robo
DS: Weevil, and Professor Layton
Wii: Commander Video and Captain Rainbow
3DS: Dillon and Magnus
Wii U: Inkling and Captain Toad
Switch: Min Min and Xenoblade 2 character
Non Nintendo console origins: Bonk and Bomberman

This exercise made it very apparent how much easier it was to figure out GBA and SNES characters.

I just want to see Warioland Wario, Lip (Panel de Pon) and Mona (Warioware). For non-Nintendo reps I would like Goemon, Dr. Eggman and Bomberman. Apart from that I don't really care.

DK wearing Funky's outfit? I can definitely get behind that costume idea.

Speaking of costume ideas, I would like to present a challenge in the costume department.

  • Select 5 characters in Smash, past or present, that are not Miis.
  • Give each them a fitting crossover outfit (meaning no jokes like Zero Suit Wario).
  • The crossover outfits must come from the franchises that were previously or are currently in Smash in any way. (Meaning you are not limited to the franchise of the fighters.)
  • You can pull from a franchise's game which has an official crossover outfit appearance, but you are not limited to that.
And...go.

Oooh this looks fun.

Peach -> White Mage outfit complete with hood that has cat ears
Ganondorf -> M. Bison
Palutena -> Aerith
Zelda -> Celica
Lucas -> Moogle onesie (his specials are reminiscent of the fire/thunder/blizzard FF spells anyway. Plus it would look adorable)

Shout out to the Palutena Azura/ Palutena Witch class from FE Fates and Lightning ZSS that just missed out. I was also going to add a Cammy ZSS outfit until i googled what she looked like cause I'd forgotten. Oh my god Capcom, let Cammy wear actual clothes.

Sonic - Link Costume from Lost World’s Zelda stuff.
Yoshi - Wool amiibo costume (set your smash amiibo in, and you’ll get the Yoshi outfit from yoshi’s Wooly world corresponding)
Fox - James McCloud alt (from F Zero)
Greninja - Sheikah clothes
Luigi - Dr Luigi outfit (or if this doesn’t count as crossover) Luigi in his kitsune costume from 3D land, but with a second tail so he’s Tails.
Link in Ike’s clothes.
Every character gets a flat game and watch skin.

I don't mean to open up a can of worms here but I don't understand why people think that Jessie and Officer Jenny has a shot of even being playable in Smash

Still a better Chance than Ridley, Geno and Shrek.
Shrek is in the same category as Jenny. Non-game originating characters. Joy has nothing to offer as a playable character, but works as a potential Trainer, as long as the Pokemon is interesting.

Geno already has way more chance than any of them, and already has a costume. The fact Sakurai has been trying to get him playable kind of matters here. Ridley has little chance, not because "lolsakurai" but more because making him work right is actually very difficult. The character needs to be balanced, and that's pretty hard to do when it's hard enough to shrink him with the current designs making him way too lanky(which comes with balance issues alone).

Geno seems sort of likely indeed, there where arrangements and we all know Geno has a strong cult following. So it's no surprise he ended up to a costume, much like King K.Rool. Geno was always a popular pick, and he's also part of the reason I voted for Very Likely as chance for a Mario newcomer. Ever since Cloud got in, and his Mii Costume, I think it's his most likely chance of being included ever.

I'm rather late to respond to this challenge, but I might as well bite:

NES: Ridley and Takamaru
SNES: K. Rool and Dixie Kong
Gameboy: Dark Matter and Meowth
N64: Waluigi and Rayman
Gamecube: Tetra and Krystal
Gameboy Advance: Isaac and Phoenix Wright
DS: Chorus Kids and......does Bananda Dee count since his initial appearance in Superstar was so minor that he probably wasn't even considered his own character at the time?
Wii: Captain Toad and Magolor
3DS: Isabelle and Decidueye
Wii U: Inkling and Plasm Wraith
Switch: Spring Man and Yooka/Laylee (As a Duck Hunt type character, perhaps)
Non-Nintendo System: Spyro (PS1) and the Heavy (TF2 on PC)

Gameboy was the toughest for me due to a complete lack of experience with that system and little knowledge on it compared to the rest....

Shrek, yes.

Ridley and Geno? Call me back in 20 years then we'll discuss that.
As much as I would love Geno in Smash, he's possibly one of the least relevant character suggestions of all time. He's a supporting character for a 20 year old game by a third party developer. He has a chance yes, but astronomically slim. I root for him though.
I honestly don't see Ridley getting into smash in the next 20 years unless he changes completely in the metroid series itself.
