Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

You're completely right but I'm still offended.
I actually didn't mind changing Kongs back and forth to collect stuff simply because of the warp pads. Then again, I'm not a 101% completionist either like most seem on here. Though I at least can say I have beaten the main story more than once.

I mean. Literally over 3000 collectables which means you need to explore the worlds 6 separate times is bothersome

Wait, how is it 6? There's 5 Kongs.

Unless I missed something, but I haven't played the game in years, nor beat it, so...

Lanky should totally have become playable. If Rare was kept around, am sure he'd be a series mainstay by now. And thus eligible for Smash.

Am still hoping that the Rare buyout will eventually be Mandela-effected out of this timeline.

I want a Chunky Kong Assist Trophy in the next Smash. That's all I really care about.

Speaking of Kongs... Has anyone else seen the new ARMS fighter teaser? I know I'm being delusional... but all I see is Lanky Kong.

I want a Lanky comeback so bad, the fact that it's around a week away from the 20-22 of November (the release date for most donkey kong games) I have gone into full conspiracy mode.

Lanky Kong for Smash 5.

There is Krushaa (or whatever his name was) from the multiplayer battle modes but yeah, in the main game, it was just the five Kongs.

I believe Chunky Kong is the only Kong we haven't really seen a modern depiction of do we? Other than maybe Swanky Kong and Kiddy Kong I think? At least from the Gamecube/Wii era and onwards. Would be neat to see him again though.

This topic is pointless as ****.
You want Magikarp to show up so bad, go support the Magikarp Trainer from Magikarp Jump as a newcomer.

But seriously, all this ******** over ****ing Goldeen instead of Magikarp being the dud Pokémon summon is one of the lowest points I've seen out of this thread.
Lol why are you getting so upset?

It's a legitimate discussion. No one's forcing you to take part in it.

Having a Magikarp as a Poke Ball Pokemon would be rather interesting when you think about it. Although it only splashes around, dealing no damage whatsoever, be careful that you don't attack it too much. Otherwise, it will evolve into Gyarados, and relentlessly attack with Dragon Rage.

Fortunately, the player who released Magikarp won't be affected.

Can the player that won’t be affected by gyrados Attack magikarp?

I saw a suggestion for a Dan Hibiki AT and I feel Dan'd be similar to this. Usually he does the best move in Fighting game history, the Legendary Taunt! But sometimes he does a Hadouken. (Dan's Hadouken is crazy strong but the range is so pitiful he's almost better off just punching)

So I posted about this before, but I'm just wondering what people would think of a mode where elements of stages as well as assist trophies are fully playable and not just left to the CPU.

Tentatively I call this mode "Overlord mode", "Smash God mode" or "Master control mode".

I think this idea has a lot of potential and would need development.
Sounds like something that could have worked on Wii U due to its focus on asymmetric gameplay.

The fighters use classic controllers while this “overlord” uses the Game Pad.

I fell like it would be the other way around for Smash eligibility.

Why? Well, don't you think it's weird that Diddy appeared in Mario games after Microsoft bought Rare?

It's like Nintendo knew Diddy and the other Kongs (except DK) were Rare's thing and wanted to keep it that way until the very end.

Cranky Kong has.. somehow grew on me. He'd represent the elder based fighter of Smash and the idea of him being the original DK gives his character serious lore.

Also, his final smash being him reclaiming his youth and reverting back to the 8 bit style of him self in the original Donkey Kong arcade, throwing barrels at the foes sounds badass.

No, they've always been Nintendo's despite being associated with Rare, because while Rare made the other Kongs, it's ultimately Nintendo who owns DK and it's characters. Ken Penders is a strange exception to this

I guess that explains why Nintendo replaced Donkey Kong Jr. with Diddy Kong as Donkey Kong’s partner in Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and other Mario sports games.

2002 - Microsoft buys Rare from Nintendo
2003 - Nintendo replaces Donkey Kong Jr. with Diddy Kong in Mario Kart: Double Dash!!

I'm hoping for maybe Mario to get a new ability from Odyssey. Maybe he could capture people as a Final Smash or just throw his cap out. I don't care, I just want Cappy to be represented somehow.

Also, I hope Ice Climbers make a return. Now that they don't have to make for 3DS as well, they can handle multiple characters at a time plus character switching.

I'm not saying Nintendo never owned the characters. I'm saying they recognized that Rare is the people who created them and did not take them out of the DK franchise until after Microsoft bought Rare.

Star Hill. Why do you ask?
Does anyone think that it could possible to bring the gaming first meme lord CATS from Zero wing to smash even just a mii gunner costume? I found out that he is currently owned by square-enix which owns taito too
He is going to be the biggest WTF character ever maybe even more than Bubsy

Tentatively I call this mode "Overlord mode", "Smash God mode" or "Master control mode".

In this mode you do not play as any of the characters, but instead play as an omnipotent and omnipresent being who gets to take control of the stage and its hazards depending on what they are. For example, this would mean selecting points on the map to bombard with beams or hazards (such as the Bahamut beam in Midgar, or the Bullet Bills on Peach's Castle). Other times you would be able to take direct control of the map itself, such as being able to control the cars on the F-Zero stages, or fly the Arwings in the Star Fox stages. The overlord can also reposition items, take control of assist trophies and pokeball pokemon, and rearrange platforms. However, each of these things cost "overlord points" (a number which is indicated on screen). Once they run out of overlord points they have to wait for them to recharge before they can interact with any obects in the stage again.

In addition, there is a catch to this. The overlord can be defeated by the players. Have you ever played TMNT4 for Super Nintendo? Do you remember that one particular battle against the Shredder where in order to defeat him you had to throw foot soldiers into the screen?

Well, the same principle applies here. In order to defeat the Overlord, players have to get star KOs on other players. This will invariably send the star KO'd player flying into the screen, damaging the overlord. The overlord has limited HP and once he is defeated, he can no longer control the stage hazards or interact with the game in any way.

I think this idea has a lot of potential and would need development.
Its funny you brought this up because I had a similar idea.

Basically, the game would be called Minor Leauge. In it, you play as the Assist Trophies with each one having 2-3 moves. You would fight by trying to deal enough damage to the other players. It would have a vs mode and a small single player. If you want an idea, it would be like the Arean in Kirby Super Star Deluxe where you could play as the helpers. Since you already have models for the characters and the moves would be mostly borrowed, it could be an interesting way to add an interesting minigame.

A new trademark for smash? Intersting, but I don't think it means too much, as both Zelda and Splatoon got trademarks. Definitely something though. I think we can now board the hype train, despite it not leaving the station anytime soon.

The hype train is currently not fueled enough for extended travel. Please wait until we get actual **** to throw into the furnace. Thank you and have a beautiful day.

I'll push this train with my bare hands if I have to. I'll fuel the furnace with hairs from my neckbeard.
