Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Well, about the closest we have to a Smash announcement/confirmation. XD

Fun thing is, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't need to trademark any Smash remake at this point, but I don't remember howl long trademarks last.

*howls longer*

This isn't a ****post. We are communicating via howling.
Sad part is, this is mostly my computer lagging and keys being bad. I do make typos here and there, but...

...Also would be funnier if I wasn't using a Dragon character. XD

It is probably nothing but at least the slim chance of this being something gives us a glimmer of hope in all this silence.

They'd still have to trademark a new name for a port, wouldn't they? I still think that's what it's gonna be.

Oh hey, long time no see, still eating shoes as part of a balanced diet?

But yeah, I'm also betting on Smash 5 just being a Switch port because otherwise it'd be ending its life cycle by the time Smash is released

I never eat shoes (except that one time) because I'm never wrong! >:()

Yeah, unless the game releases in 2020, I'd be really shocked to see a new Smash Bros.

Smash Bros mobile game called Gacha Bros. which is a crossover eith various Gacha games characters with 50% being from FEH
Sounds close enough to be an actual Smash Bros game.

I fell like it would be the other way around for Smash eligibility.

Why? Well, don't you think it's weird that Diddy appeared in Mario games after Microsoft bought Rare?

It's like Nintendo knew Diddy and the other Kongs (except DK) were Rare's thing and wanted to keep it that way until the very end.
No not really. Nintendo would indeed probably prefer to keep the Rare created Kongs with their own developers. Though they did embrace Diddy a great deal with official merchandise back in the day. Guess it's part of the overall great marketing and impact DKC had in the old days, but I've never seen as much attention being pushed for other Kongs.

They probably decided on Diddy by him being a stronger established character in the end by adding him in spin offs. Also there was no recent appearance of DK Jr. around anyway. And outside of Mario Tennis and Super Mario Kart (who lacked a adult DK) there are no other instances of DK Jr. appearing in any spin off either. Guess Game & Watch Gallery? But that's not really a proper Mario spin off anyway, or is it?

So in the end it could go a lot of ways. Maybe Rare would've made its own fighter game down the road under Nintendo's license. A real lot would've been possible keeping Rare around honestly.

Anyone who expected anything more than this does not understand how copyrights work.

They rarely mean more than nothing unless it's a new IP :p
I mean, we're still going to see it soon anyway lmao

There was a problem fetching the tweet

Liek if u cri everytiem.
That makes sense given if it was just a general trademark you'd think the existing ones for Zelda, Splatoon, and Animal Crossing wouldn't need to be updated again just weeks/months after a game came out.

Doom Slayer officially entered my top 10 most wanted wishlist.

Professor Layton, Yoshimitsu, Doom Slayer, Banjo-Kazooie, Ridley, Ganon, Paper Mario, Alexandra Roivas, Spyro The Dragon and Elma from Xenoblade X are my top 10.

Why would Smash ever be on a mobile game?

The controls wouldn't really work out and it could be a Gatcha at best.

There's your answer. It wouldn't be a standard Smash game, but rather a mobile app based on Smash.

EDIT: Although, things like this exist, so....

We might get a direct at the end of this month, but I think we'll probably get a major one around January, which is the anniversary month of the Nintendo Switch presentation. And no, this is not because some "leak" said so...

Waluigi's whole existence is to be a Sports character. Daisy is more than that. She isn't actually associated with Sports much. Those were also some of her latest appearances. Popular ones too. And yeah, it'd make more sense for her to use stuff like Super Mario Land abilities since they're way more associated with her than Sports in origin. That's her debut game. It's not that OOC. The thing is, she should represent her own series a bit more than spin-off games that aren't necessarily important to her. The only thing about those costumes is that they're great for color picks, but they don't represent her that much inherently. Heck, the only notable thing about Daisy she got from the spin-offs is a catchphrase.

Waluigi actually does, since it's core to his character.

No he didn't. That's a mistranslation of Source Gaming. It was never said at all. It's only been made clear that it can help.

PushDustIn PushDustIn : Could you post the official translation? It seems the old incorrect one has reared its head again. You make one error... XD
It's in Sakurai on: Third Party Characters!

(Sorry for the late reply, I had a very busy weekend)

Yeah, I’m betting a major Direct in January to start the year fresh. We already had a specific Direct for XC2 which is pretty much the only big thing left this year (apart from USUM this week).

Smaller (non-Direct worthy?) things like DLC for BotW and FEW, updates for ARMS (new character) and I think Pokkén also, as well as AC: Pocket Camp plus big names like Odyssey will still keep some nice Nintendo buzz up well over the holidays.

Nintendo typically has directs in January (although some of those directs were more minor events), so a January 2018 direct is hardly a crazy prediction. However, ever since directs began, we always get at least one between December and January. Whether or not it's a "big" direct is the more difficult question.

It did pop up during the time things like Mario Odyssey were said to start development. Was it ever actually debunked as fake?
People usually automatically write it off because of a "2015 release" mentioned (which admittedly I found odd) and because it was taken down. It was probably taken down because there were typos and wrong information, and more notably it was probably not authorised by Nintendo. However, the job listing was posted by someone who has a good reputation - Tatsuya Matsumura. Mr. Matsumura seems to still had all of his other recruitment ads live on the website, which included career opportunities for other companies such as Square Enix, Capcom, Tecmo Koei, and various mobile developers. Also, according to Siliconera, "upon further research, Mr. Matsumura appears to have been in the business of a career consultant to connect developers and software companies with programmers and engineers since 2011. He currently specialises in getting people in touch with gaming and software developers, and has successfully helped the recruitment of over 2,000 people thus far". I mean, why would he want to add a fake job listing and damage his reputation as a reliable and respected consultant in the industry? It doesn't make sense to me.

Reading PushDustin's article again, I realised that Sakurai does indeed take a lot of inspiration from multiple sources and he outrightely stated it's preferable if a character is home from a series with a lot of action. This makes it harder for him to create movesets for characters as Fox, Captain Falcon, Wii Fit Trainer and Villager.

Guess this is pretty good news for all the characters I want to have in. And I also don't think we should rule out characters from Hyrule / Fire Emblem Warriors or Pokken just yet. Those are the biggest action-based games of current and the Wii U generation. I think there will be some changes on current characters based on them, and maybe even a newcomer from all of these games.

I don't know why exactly the idea isn't popular at all only cause the games are 3rd party developed, but even Mega Man took inspiration from his Marvel vs Capcom-self, a gaming franchise with not even ONE appearance on Nintendo.

I think it's hypocritical to rule them out completely.
