Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

There's some thing about Melee Yoshi I don't really like, and I think its something to do with his colour scheme. Something about it looks really... off, I'm not too sure tbh.

I'm not sure what you mean. When did I say one word of DBZ or Jojo?
He didn't say that you said anything about DBZ or Jojo. From what I can understand, he's talking about the general vibe of some of your posts, that you give off the impression you're one of those weebs that shove DBZ or Jojo down people's throats; he's insinuating that it's silly that you're talking down on weebs in your post about Corrin's inclusion in Smash 4 when you yourself... well, you get the idea.

And if I'm being honest, I can't really say I'm completely surprised, you do have Masako Nozawa in your avi after all, so there could be some precedence for that opinion.

Yes, which is why Corrin was possibly the worst PR move Sakurai / Nintendo has ever did in Smash (maybe other than outright dismissing Ridley in the past.)
To be fair, Nintendo’s goal was to mess up every PR with the Wii U and damn it will I not respect them for seceding

He's no different from a Pokemon in that respect. Maybe Yoshi's a narcissist. I'm sure he still talks, he must pay bills and stuff, otherwise...why does he have a mailbox?
Are you sure about that? y'know, his history of tax fraud...
sorry I couldn't resist

Oh, so you're going to assume things about me just because I don't like embarrassing and sad waifu culture which just so happens to undoubtedly be perpetuated by weebs. How nice of you.

all these people disrespecting corrin smh. beyond glad that they came back so that i can still style on people with them
Corrin is still the only character I wish was never in Smash. Are there even any people that like Corrin other than weebs who are obsessed with "waifus"?
if you are gonna throw stones at people at least get out of the glass house.

I still don't much care about Corrin but I do get one extra new fighter since I never bought or even ever played as the character, so that's pretty cool.

Melee DK, Yoshi and Falco aged horribly.
I actually like that Falco a bit better with the big beak, not sure why they didn't update his design to Star Fox Zero (which is the same) in Ultimate when they did it for Fox and Wolf.

Melee Ganondorf is another that really didn't age well, the OoT design is good, but they really messed it up in Melee, he looks genuinely happy rather than sinister.

It's an expression that has roots to the bible. "Don't throw stones in glass houses." In other words, if you try to be antagonistic, you might just set yourself up looking like a fool.
Can't say I can recall trying to be antagonistic, but whatever.

So with all the fighters back, and the majority of the stages back, is there any other content you'd like to see back from past games?

Target Test is a big one for me. Probably not individual target tests, as that'll likely end up being 70+ when the roster's all finished, but an expanded version of Brawl's Target Test would be great. Maybe about 10 stages of varying difficulty that can be tackled differently depending on the character chosen?

I'd also really like to see some of the series' cut items back, most notably the Fan, Cracker Launcher, Parasol, Red Shell, and Barrel Cannon. With the focus on bringing back things from the past games, I hope some of lost items make a return as well.

I was asking if there were people who played Corrin that weren't waifu-loving weebs because I genuinely didn't know of any. Then I read people's answers and understood. Please stop assuming things.

Not shooting the messenger would be nice, thanks. Swamp didn't happen to elaborate, so I did it on his behalf. If you have any qualms about what he said and/or my interpretation of what the point he was trying to get across its best to talk to him in a PM about it.

Considering the way you worded it is usually used as an insult, it's impossible NOT to assume you meant to insult people.

You actually implied that my avatar pic of my role model somehow implies I'm some sort of bigot.

Boss Battles, some of the most fun I had in Brawl was trying to do it on Intense with my brother. I don't care how they incorporate bosses, doesn't need to be through an SSE-esque adventure mode, I just want the Boss Battles mode to come back, hopefully with some iconic ones like Kraid and Kracko.

By comparison, his head got bigger while his beak is smaller. I think...yeah it's his forehead.

I think it's the way his beak is angled too. The top is sloped downward rather than jutting out from his face at a forward angle. The curve of his beak is also more rounded than in Zero.

In other words: "That ain't Falco".

I just realised Shulk can't hit Ryu with a backslash to the back in a 1v1.

Alright dudes, let’s be real. The only reason anybody in the Smash community doesn’t like Corrin is because, frankly, Fire Emblem received a character when your beloved choice didn’t.

Mother****ing spoiler alert: Corrin probably would have been in Smash either by Wii U DLC or newcomer to this game, I guarantee it.

She’s a new headline lord, whether you like her/her game or not.

She has abilities nobody else has, whether you like it or not.

She was chosen literally because she was from a newer game, whether you like that or not.

Before anybody decides to start saying anybody who likes the character is a particular kind of person for liking the character, realize that maybe not everybody shares your POV.

Maybe *gasp*, people like things you don’t.

If you don’t like the character, use them as a punching bag. The game isn’t meant to cater to fans who want the entire roster to be every character they want and no characters they don’t want, despite any reasonable player only being reasonably able to main something like 3-5 characters total.

Enjoy the game, and let others enjoy their characters. I myself will play Corrin when I like, because I like Corrin. Come at me.

Not even remotely true, but you can take it up with me in PM's if it is that much of a problem.

I too hope it comes back, but I'd rather the bosses from the SSE (barring Tabuu) be replaced with bosses from series that are represented in Smash. Speaking of that, I really hope Giga Bowser comes back as a boss. I know he's bigger than the stage now, but I'm sure Sakurai and his team can take liberties with that sort of thing.

So I was thinking of how a Bowser's Castle stage could work that fused elements from multiple games, so here's my idea!

Excuse the fast, 15 minute pixel mockup:

It'd take place on a giant circular arena held up over a large pool of lava inside Bowser's Castle, loosely inspired by the arenas in Super Mario 64.
At the center of the arena would be four large platforms that rotate clockwise in a circle, stylized like the platforms Reznor was on in Super Mario World.

The version of the arena with hazards would have explosive spiked balls around the edge of the blast zones that explode and KO any fighter thrown into them, similarly to the ones found in Super Mario 64. Additionally, Podoboo would occasionally jump out of the lava to gimp anyone recovering low. Recovery would be difficult on this stage.
Without hazards, it's as shown. The lava itself would be right at the blast zone, so it wouldn't interfere with the battle.

And the overall aesthetics of the background would take from the modern Bowser's Castle design seen in New Super Mario Bros series.

Bowser deserves a stage! Hopefully he receives one as good as this, or even better.

Should this leak be real? It includes King K Rool, Ashley, Paper Mario, Karate Joe, Simon and Belmont as newcomers and Alph and Impa as echo fighters. Plus a lot of new stages and a story mode. Link:http://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/421947065
It's fake. Alph is confirmed to still be an alt for Olimar. Also, Great Plateau Tower and Moray Towers aren't on the new stage list.

I know people already gave you **** about this but you have no right to criticize weebs when you're getting a Japanese copy of the game lmao

Actually if Corrin didn't make it into 4 then either Alm or Celica would be in now, not Corrin.

Not neccesarily. Even if Echoes came out in 2016 as was originally planned (I think?), Corrin could've easily been added instead.

Lately I've been thinking about the possibility of Dragon Quest being represented, and I've come to the conclusion that there are four logical choices to pick from to represent the series, and here are the reasons why:

1. Erdrick (Dragon Quest III): Besides obviously being the hero of Dragon Quest III, his game is very important in the grand scheme of the series, let alone JRPGs in general. The bigger world and class system (consisting of picking one party member representing one job out of many), alongside improvements already brought by DQII (mainly the party system) has helped the series to root itself in the gaming landscape for decades to come.

2. Slime (many Dragon Quest entries): What is often the first thing people think about when you bring up Dragon Quest? "A Slime draws near! Command?" The slime, generally being the very first monster players can encounter in the games, has become the series' iconic mascot, thanks to its simple, appealing design, as well as the quirks of some of its more infamous cousins, including the Metal and King slimes. One in particular even became the hero of its own spin-off series, adding combat capabilities one wouldn't expect from it.

3. Alena/Arena (Dragon Quest IV): Out of all the early DQ entries, IV is the first to establish party members with their own backstories, names and personalities, as well as its own unique chapter-based story structure gradually introducing each of them. Arguably the most notable of these secondary characters is the tomboyish spellcaster princess Alena, who can represent the game even more than Torneko and the twins Meena and Maya.

4. Jessica (Dragon Quest VIII): Besides being the first modern entry in the series to successfully introduce 3D battles (as well as being the only one made specifically for the PS2 by Level 5), DQ VIII has an interesting place in the series' history; the US release introduced voice acting, a feature that wouldn't be implemented by default until the 3DS port/remake. Out of everyone to represent the game, that honor would go to the firey (and hot) spellcaster Jessica, whose good looks and varied wardrobe have helped her stand out amongst the rest of the party. Some of her outfits have also been edited in the US release of DQVIII on the 3DS, so this would be simple to do again.

I checked 4chan for some leaks.

And oh boy there were leaks.

http://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/422231530
I have been informed of the following Smash new characters from an outside source. With the amount of garbage dumped here, that is the place they feel most comfortable releasing the information to not have it traced back to them.

The next time Smash appears in a direct, Incineroar will be shown as an echo first, using Captain Falcon/Ganondorf as the base. He will play identically to the Ganondorf from earlier titles. The fully unique newcomer is Rowlet, who will be the smallest character in the game.

I have no idea of the release order of the other characters, but K. Rool, Roto from Dragon Quest, and Dark Samus are the other newcomers. Dark Samus is not an echo. No other echoes are known, and they will be decided upon later if there is time.
http://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/422223734
I've got information on an upcoming Nintendo Direct Mini that will be announced later this summer.

>Splatoon 2 is getting a 4.0 update, this update will add new weapons, new gear, and 2 new ranked modes.

>The first mode is called Rocket Blast, in this mode players will need to fire ink at a rocket, if your team hit the rocket more, it will blastoff and land closer to the enemy base.

>The second mode is called Crazy Eight, where you have to push a giant 8 ball to different checkpoints as you make your way towards the enemy base.

>Also, Flounder Heights and Ancho-V Games are returning from Splatoon 1

>Super Mario Odyssey is getting a free update, adding Isle Delphino as a new kingdom. It's also getting more costumes, including an 8bit costume, and they'll show off one new hint artwork. Will be released in the Fall.

>Super Mario Party will have a story mode, a new villain who looks like a dice block is making everyone in the Mushroom Kingdom hate each other. Mario is immune because he doesn't hate anyone, so he has to find a way to save his friends.

>Zelda: Links Awakening is getting a remake for the 3DS, will be released alongside a 2DS Special Edition

>The direct will end with more information about Warioware Gold for 3DS, including amiibo support.

>After this they'll reveal that Ashley will be in Smash Ultimate, along with the Game and Wario stage.
http://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/422212796
Can confirm via a trusted source that these are our newcomers - Ashley, Isaac, Simon Belmont, Geno, Decidueye, King K.Rool, Dixie Kong (Semi-Echo of Diddy) Elma and Mach Rider. Shadow and Octolings are echoes of Sonic and Inklings.

July 20th Ashley reveal, Isaac and Decidueye in August, King K. Rool and Dixie in September, Simon and Geno in October, Elma in November with Mach Rider and the Echoes being saved for post-release.

K. Rool is the first character the 30+ club. Congrats I guess. There are also 45 leaks now. It's only been 14 days since Nintendo's E3 presentation. That's 3.21 leaks a day.
One leak says Rowlet is a newcomer. Another leak says Decidueye is a newcomer.

One or both has to be fake. We aren’t getting both Rowlet AND Decidueye.

Roto from Dragon Quest? Roto is the Japanese name for Erdrick. I support. I always wanted a Dragon Quest character... although I always preferred Dragon Warrior (from the first game), Eight (from the eighth game and my first DQ game), or Slime... but Erdrick works too!

Dixie Kong as a semi-Echo of Diddy Kong? Ugh... I just hope she still uses her hair for attacks and floating around.
