August 1st is the release date of Golden Sun 1, as we have already discussed, Smash Bros. has never done this (at least not for newcomers). And this is coming from someone who wants Isaac.

I do not believe this leak but the "Sakurai has never done this so it wont happen" argument is invalid.

It has been broken so many times now.

I could argue that since this game is about fanservice, Sakurai and co. might consider revealing newcomers on anniversaries if the stars align.

I dont think Saki will be playable I would love to see him as a playable character but the problem with that by looking at Elma and Saki they probably will play similar. I think the fake rumor probably has Saki on the list to make it legit.

A reminder that Day 1 DLC is not necessarily content "cut off to be sold later"; during the final few months of development, all that's being done is balance adjustments and bug fixes, while the art team and content creators have nothing to do, so they can be put to task on making assets for DLC, and then when the game is gold, those assets can be used to finish some DLC that's ready by day 1.

That said if the Meta Ridley alt-costume ended up paid Day 1 DLC, it certainly wouldn't be a case of that as we already seen it this far out from release.

Her hair is as yellow as Peach and Zelda. Makes sense because they need to make the color more distinct from her skin, but I feel like that kind of shows the flaws with this art style. The Ultimate icons still haven't grown on me, despite everyone saying they would. It'd at least feel better if they had eyes. It makes the icons feel so... lifeless.

Which is funny because Saki on that list is exactly what doesn't make it legit for me.

Like it hits that spot of vague AT with a cult following characters which are always put on lists but never make it in, but doesn't have quite the big enough of a cult following that it's one of the fan service characters Sakurai might be considering putting in for ultimate.

That's quite the strawman, the point was that characters aren't 100% represented properly and liberties are taken. whether it's because of necessity or because Sakurai wants to for whatever reason. So in the case of Shadow being a Sonic clone, that it wouldn't be "completely representative" or him doing a windup punch would "look goofy" isn't going to deter Sakurai from making him a clone.

I'm strawmaning? What about you? This whole discussion is about to what extent Shadow would be a clone. Everyone on this forum agrees he would be. I'm just saying he wouldn't be an ECHO fighter, because of the various different animations and characteristics, like Dr. Mario.

Dr. Mario isn't an Echo because of a legacy basis; having been a clone back in Melee, which are significantly different gameplay-wise from an Echo, Dr. Mario already had an established base in Smash and thus that is what Sakurai worked with. Dr. Mario not being an Echo has nothing to do with Mario's moves being "unfitting" or whatever, and realistically if Dr. Mario wasn't a clone back in Melee, he probably wouldn't even be more than an alt-costume nowadays.

Not to detract from your point, but angry Mario was done in other games. Mario was extra mad as hell in Strikers.

He looks pretty happy in Ultimate by comparison.

I really, really hope that we have Super Mario World and/or Super Mario Sunshine representation in this game. Those are my first Mario games and I have so much nostalgia for them, and unfortunately, they're the only main series Mario games whose stages are absent right now.

Maybe we could finally get a Bowser stage through them adding SMW Bowser's Castle instead?

All I'm saying in regards to returning stages and the unfortunate fact that they won't all be returning, is that Fountain of Dreams and Brinstar Depths from Melee need to come back.

^ This. I want Brinstar Depths redesigned and back so bad. Hell, if it's not in the base game, I'll pay for DLC.

I'd also love it if Mute City from Melee came back as well (love that pink sky a e s t h e t i c ), but I feel like it would've been shown already (and Captain Falcon's stage in his character background is Port Town. Then again, that is his hometown, but still).

I have been informed of the following Smash new characters from an outside source. With the amount of garbage dumped here, that is the place they feel most comfortable releasing the information to not have it traced back to them.

The next time Smash appears in a direct, Incineroar will be shown as an echo first, using Captain Falcon/Ganondorf as the base. He will play identically to the Ganondorf from earlier titles. The fully unique newcomer is Rowlet, who will be the smallest character in the game.

I have no idea of the release order of the other characters, but K. Rool, Roto from Dragon Quest, and Dark Samus are the other newcomers. Dark Samus is not an echo. No other echoes are known, and they will be decided upon later if there is time.

So I was thinking about that Snake with the Ramblin' Mushroom pic, and I've concluded either two things:
1. It's Guar Plain and the angle of the picture (and/or updated background) makes it look like unfamiliar terrain
2. It's an adventure mode stage, Melee style, themed like Guar Plain

The textures and lighting match up with known pictures we have of Guar Plain, but the terrain does feel very unfamiliar. Likely either an odd angle or adventure mode. The only other explanation for there being a Ramblin' Mushroom there is that it's an assist trophy, which is... a very unexpected choice.

Sudden light-bulb: in Earthbound, the Ramblin' Mushroom would place a mushroom on Ness's head and continue to damage him after a fight. What if Lip's flower has been totally removed/Lip has been added as a character, and the Ramblin' Mushroom is a replacement item that pretty much does the same thing?
