Echo fighters: Can't do anything their base character can't, in regular play.

My money is that this new stage is Saturn Valley from Mother 3. It matches the colors in that one. I'm happy if it is, that means I can play on this stage as Ness/Lucas and spawn a ****-ton of Mr. Saturn items.

Also, that would mean FIVE Mother stages. New Mother character confirmed?!

EDIT: Calling it now, we got a Saturn Valley stage. You can see a little hut in the background and I think Snake's pic with the Ramblin' Evil Mushroom confirms it.

The first pic with Snake is literally Gaur Plains though.
Can't be too confident about the second one, but it's definitely possible to be Gaur Plains. But this time I'll stretch to new hypotheticals.

EDIT: Yeah it's Gaur Plains, it has the same rock in front of the lake, I just couldn't see it because of Solgaleo's fire.

As much as i'd love Kumatora or something like Flint, Duster or the Masked Man (Ninten works too) I don't think we have another Mother character.

Nah, screw launch DLC.
That's literally content that's cut off from the game to be sold to you before the game's even out.

Cancerous as hell business practice that I hope Nintendo doesn't engage in.

Or content that's finished in the like 2 months between when the game needs to be finalized for review and then production and the actual launch date, which is plenty of time to do skins 'n other stuff. Like Nintendo have done free day one DLC before(in fact I think all day one stuff from Nintendo has been free so far?), it's not always just a money grab. It's a useful tool for devs to cram in some extra content they want to be ready for launch without extending the deadline, which is really useful for game with dev cycles like the Smash games usually have. I do think day one stuff should be free though.

Though Meta Ridley in particular if the model is done enough to show in a trailer I'm sure it'll be ready well before launch.

Why is everyone so curfumpled about the definition of an Echo?
To be an Echo fighter, you must share -------> every single <------- move with the character you're cloning. Dr. Mario has a different Down-Air, and Young Link has a different F-Smash from Toon Link and has a hookshot unlike Link, meaning they can't be Echo fighters.

I know! What's so difficult to understand about that?

They are both blatantly gaur plains. Same pillar, same lake (albeit updated just like a lot of stages were updated)

Sorry, but it isnt Saturn valley, as much as I would love that stage.

Sensibly? No. Dr. Mario with fireballs and fludd is not sensible. If Dr. Mario is literally just Mario in a doctor outfit, then Dark Pit is literally just Pit, but black. So no. Having those characters be costumes is not sensible. That's why the were separated in the first place.

And I just explained why he's not right afterward, because of his legacy of having already been made a more distinct clone in the prior Smash games, which would have nothing to do on why Shadow wouldn't be able to be an Echo of Sonic.

Yes it does! Because Shadow doesn't need to be unique in previous games to have unique differences in this one.

This reminds me of something interesting.

For those of you who don't remember, the reason people believed that Shulk was a photoshopped Little Mac is because their faces on their official renders were at similar angles.

The same problem arises. Shulk's face is noticeably smaller than Mac's, though.

I do get tired of people telling me to be a fan of Waluigi I have to be into the memes. I've liked Waluigi since I discovered him as a trophy in Melee. He was such an obviously derivative character; I loved how they basically embraced that aspect by making him a Wario-esque Luigi, with Luigi's difference from Mario (taller and thinner) exaggerated so dramatically. I found him quite delightful when I was formally introduced to him in Mario Party and Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and have enjoyed him since, including his terrible personality. Memes are most certainly not a reason I supported Waluigi.

Do you know the context of Melee at all, Dr. Mario's original inclusion? First FLUDD didn't even exist in Melee, and it doesn't make any less sense for Dr. Mario to use FLUDD than it does for Builder Mario and Wedding Mario; Dr. Mario is literally just Mario in doctor garb, there's no reason he shouldn't be able to do any of the things Mario does. Now for the context of the Melee clones; the clones weren't originally planned, Sakurai decided to add some clones to the roster mid-development to beef up the roster, as he thought fans may have found the roster underwhelming. These clones were traditional-styled clones, i.e. these characters shared nearly every if not all moves with another character, but have altered sizes/shapes, altered movement specs/physics, most if not all moves having altered frame data/damage/knockback, many moves having altered functioning, and even a unique move or two. As such, while these characters were cloned, they were made very distinct gameplay-wise and functioned as significantly different characters. When deciding clones, Sakurai decided Dr. Mario to be the clone of Mario, and thus in the process had to make Dr. Mario a lot more different gameplay wise to make him a distinct character, as well as add flair to make him more distinct (such as Mega Vitamins instead of Fireballs).

When it came to Smash 4, Sakurai could have just made him an alt-costume and that was the original plan, but Sakurai didn't want to disappoint his fans of his Melee appearance, so he brought him back as his own character and kept him based on his design in Melee, which meant Dr. Mario not having FLUDD as he didn't have that move in that game, alongside maintaining all his other differences. As such, it's purely legacy on why Dr. Mario is his own character today in Smash, not because Sakurai didn't want him whipping out FLUDD.

Dr. Mario's case has no bearing on Shadow, Shadow would be completely new to Smash, Sakurai can include him in whatever matter he wants, as Shadow does not have an already established base in Smash and thus fans have no prior expectation of how Shadow will be in Smash. As such, that is why Shadow can be an Echo, while Dr. Mario isn't.

I miss the more devious and malicious Waluigi from when I first saw him in Mario Tennis. He's become a little too wacky for me to love him as much as I used to. He used to come off as the most evil character ever, even though he's pathetic.
