Official Smash Ultimate Discussion

Almost one month has passed since release. In retrospect....

  • This is by far the best Smash ever. Like, I don't even know how they will top this.

  • Pretty freakin' good; I have a few qualms over things like internet play, balancing issues, etc.

  • It's ok, but [insert Smash game here] is better.

  • I'd rather play Parcheesi.

Not sure about WIi Fit Trainer, but I'm pretty sure Arcadenik Arcadenik would've missed Duck Hunt.
Exactly. I championed for Duck Hunt Dog to be a playable fighter in Smash for 12 years when no one else would (or at least that's how I felt back then). :4duckhunt:

Now that I finally have my dog, I am championing for my cat. :052:

Thanks for those pictures. I never recalled seeing it during gameplay videos and that was one thing I loved about Smash 4 - awesome stock icons. Now that these have the alt colors; they are even more awesome.

So something I was thinking about in the car listening to music, is there any newcomer you really want for reasons other than the character itself?

For example recently I've really started to want Joker from Persona 5, but not for the character (it could literally be any Persona character but he's the most relevant) but for both the series aestethic as well as the music! I really want to battle on a colorful Persona stage to the sound of "Last Surprise" and "Life Will Change"! Anyone else have a newcomer they want like this?

Who is the character you would replaced to add another 3rd Party pick for, and who would the 3rd Party pick be?
Eh I don't really like third parties lol. But I know lots of people look forward to them and they really hype the game so I'm thinking we will get one that isn't a niche character like Geno.

But if I could just choose any one, either Joker from Persona 5 (see above) or Travis Touchdown.
(Also I'd probably remove Paper Mario, as Daisy and Geno would already be 2 new Mario characters.)

...Wait?

HOW MANY OTHER 27 YEAR OLDS ARE THERE HERE!?

(My laptop decided it wanted to bug out today, and it can't connect to the internet, so that's a thing.)
Also 27, Smash Dojo for Brawl was wild I never thought I could be so hyped. Lucario was the newcomer I wanted most, and lo and behold he arrived. Pretty sure I landed on moon with the amount of hype coursing through my body at the time.

Also an update on a Sunday, for the Smash website what?!

For the first time ever, I’m participating in this thread from work.

Thinking about it, besides my relatively vanilla “wish list” for smash, I really want an unorthodox curveball character. Something completely out of left field. I eat that kinda thing up even if a lot of people would be upset about something weird “taking a slot from someone better”

Mostly for those, I just want the thing itself. I’d prefer my newcomers stay for character reasons.

We have gotten some unattached songs and stages from Nintendo series, and now Rayman and Bomberman have shown us that representation doesn’t need playability.

My big one is a Tetris stage. I always come back to that. I also wouldn’t mind loads of trophies from various series whether playable or not.

I'm 26 close enough? I remember being in high school for the Brawl period and being one of the only people who knew who Ike was when he was revealed. Since I got Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn both on their launch days.

How would you guys feel if these were our newcomers?

Unique:
Inkling (Confirmed)
Ridley (Confirmed)
Bandana Dee
King K. Rool
Rhythm Heaven Rep (Chorus Kids, Karate Joe, Tap Trial Girl, or Rhythm Troupe.)
Paper Mario
Sun & Moon Pokémon (Decidueye, Incineroar, Lycanroc, or Mimikyu.)
Geno

Semi-Clone:
Isabelle (Semi-clone of Villager)
Dixie (Semi-clone of Diddy)

Echoes:
Daisy (Confirmed)
Impa (HW Design, Echo of Sheik)

That’d make for 12 Newcomers in total which would be the lowest number we’ve ever gotten.

Bandana Dee: Quartet complete very good. Just one more and its smooth sailing

King K Rool : Yep that was it most wanted achieved. Puff, puff, cigars boys?

Rhythm Heaven Rep: Happy for them, good picks not even mad.

Paper Mario: I'm intrigued

Sun & Moon Pokémon:
Owl: Hat eating time. But let's see how he works
Tiger: Good I ain't even mad
Wolf: Okay... Not what I expected give the timing but let's give him a shot
Waru Pika: Welcome aboard, we've been expecting you.

Geno: You can't see me my time is now!

----

Isabelle: Hmmm, well alright, cool

Dixie (Semi-clone of Diddy): DK complete.

----
Impa (HW Design, Echo of Sheik): Alright not even mad.

---
Overall I'd call that 'Ulitmate' give some pre-order bonuses and I'm good.

I agree something like E-shop Bag or Monita or both to close out the life cycles of both of those systems and the previous version of the online shop network.

Swamp Sensei Swamp Sensei By the way, just wanted to mention: I like Corrin, Fates as a whole too. It might even be as high as my 2nd favourite Fire Emblem, beaten out by FE7.

I think my favourite Fates character might have been Charlotte, fwiw. I found the duality of her personality amusing and cute. I'm of the opinion that anyone who doesn't like characters like Camilla, Charlotte and Tharja just because of the way they look/are dressed are just as immature as those who hate them for the same reason. Now, not liking their personalities, that's fair.

I like Fates gameplay wise but not much else wise, then again I'm an oddball who's favorite FEs are Mystery of the Emblem (3), Binding Blade (6) and Path Of Radiance (9), but I like them all to differing degrees and have played the Kaga PlayStation 1 game Tear Ring Saga even, still waiting on the Berwick Saga translation to play that too, it's almost doneee

My favorite characters in Fates were Ryoma and Kaze

It's funny that I like Roy's game a lot but am eh on him, my favorite Lord has always been his Dad instead who doesn't exactly get a lot of attention. Oops.

I want most of the characters on my wishlist for moveset reasons. Does that count?
Other than that, Isaac is a character I also want for his fanbase, but also because I would also love me some Golden Sun remixes. My desire for K. Rool is fueled by the same three reasons as Isaac.
Edit: I also mostly want Rayman because he's my friend's most wanted.
Then there's Andross, who I just want to complete my ideal villainous team for a story mode.

I want an opinion on something. Say a Pokemon like Litten, Rowlet, or Rockruff gets revealed as a Pokeball Pokemon. Would you consider that to hurt the chances of their evolved forms, or do you think it doesn't effect their chances at all?

I want to say it doesn't, but seeing how Froakie was the only Gen VI starter to not be in a Pokeball, I feel like there might be some substance to that theory. Definitely doesn't disconfirm them either way, but I'm not sure if I should consider that as a hint that they probably won't be playable.

I was 10 years old when Brawl's first trailer was first showcased. Those 2 years were some of the most interesting due to how much speculation there was on Brawl. How was the Story gonna be? Who is else is gonna show up? And when Sonic was revealed, the Internet had a collective celebration when he did.

I'm 22 now.....dear lord...

No, because Alolan Raichu is a Pokeball Pokemon.

Same!

I was really sick that night and went to the midnight release at gamestop anyway, I had also asked a girl from my art class to come over and play it the next day cause she was drawing kirby in class and I thought she was cute, so i asked if she was into smash and if she wanted to hang out and play it when the new one came out (we ended up dating for a few years but this was literally the first time we hung out outside of class).

So after months of speculating, finally having the game come out AND it was the day I was finally going to hang out with this girl from my class I wanted to date... I got sick. I toughed it out anyway though and I felt fine by the next afternoon (the day after the midnight release when this girl was coming over), but sitting in line at a crowded gamestop feeling awful... I couldn't believe the bad timing haha, it all turned out ok in the end though.

Man, it's hard to believe it's been 10+ years since Brawl and that whole season of my life. I'm 23 now, so I was in, what, junior high back then? Good grief. So much was different back then.

In any case, I'm glad the time between reveal and release is so short this time, because another 3 year wait like between E3 2011 and Smash 4's release would've gotten old this soon after.

I still remember when I got my Gamecube, I won it at a school raffle. My mum says I was grinning from ear to ear when she came to pick me up that day. My sister bought Sonic Adventure 2 and Melee, and that's when it all started. XD

We didn't have a memory card yet (or rather, I didn't), so I remember unlocking Falco over and over and over until we got one a few days later.

Brawl on the other hand, was different. I remember going to school every day and immediately going to the Sixth Form only Computer Room (I am guessing sixth form is the equivalent to High School seniors?) and logging on, going immediately to the Brawl website to check for news.

Yeah thinking about that was total bull.

We had like three or two E3s, 2014 was good though because there was Bayo 2 but man...

27 as well, hence all the oldschool love (banjo, Star Fox ;( )

I remember the original smash bros commercial feeling like a dream when I saw it on tv, also remember wanting a sequel feeling like it would never happen and losing my mind when that melee trailer dropped. I only had the internet through school but every day in 5th grade I would check the website for updates. Did the same for brawl, the hype for me on it was wild. For smash 4 everything was... less so for me I speculated the most for this one forum wise ultimately ending up disappointing myself (literally ruined the bayo inclusion for myself even though I wanted her) but at least Ultimate has me excited again.

I was in college for the whole Brawl speculation, but I wasn’t on SmashBoards. I really just made the Dojo my homepage and would check the announcements first thing each morning.

Oh man, the day they revealed Pokémon Trainer...accidentally woke my roommate up because I was so excited.

I had Melee with me in college and a few of my friends would go to the lounge at the end of the hall to play. But the year Brawl came out, I got a Wii for Christmas and I played nonstop. Brawl definitely was one of my favorites.

I didn't get involved in Smashboards until Sm4sh speculation, and I lurked for a while before I started posting for K. Rool and Ridley. Never finished a game from either series, bit the community here got me involved.

Still don’t play competitive at all, but it’s fun to speculate, even if my most wanted are pipe dreams.

I also distinctly remember when Melee came out cause I had also gotten tony hawk pro skater 3 and a gamecube all in one purchase.

Smash 64 i remember me and my friends loving the commercial before any of us got the game but i have no recollection of actually picking up and buying the game or playing it for the first time... lots of memories of playing it back then though, mostly 4 player on the great fox stage.

I was 5 or 6 years old when my brother bought 64. We proceeded to go back to it constantly until Brawl's release because despite having a Gamecube, we didn't own Melee during that time. We'd alternate between playing 64 and going to my neighbor's house to play Melee in the meantime. Nowadays I personally own all 5 versions of the game; I bought Wii U and 3DS upon their release, and I agreed to pay said neighbor $15 for Melee and Kirby Air Ride when he decided to sell off a lot of his gaming stuff.

Which I promptly forgot to pay him for. Oops.

You and I have very similar stories, then. :)
I remember the guys in the year above us had a Gamecube in the tv room of the Common Room for Sixth Formers. They had Melee, Soul Calibur 2 and Bomberman.
I tried to take them on in Melee and got destroyed, repeatedly.

The next year, when I was bringing my Wii to school, I was in the top 5 Brawl Players, and THE best at Mario Kart Wii. Basically, we played MKWii once, I won so handily nobody wanted to race me again.

It's funny, I remember the hype and checking the Dojo for Brawl but I don't actually remember buying it. XD

I was in kindergarden when Brawl came out but I wouldn't find out about it's existence until about half a year later in the Summer of 2008. My parents were out of town for a couple of days and I was staying with some friends of my parents for a couple of days. That was also the first time I ever found out about the existence of the Wii. I hardly knew the people I was staying with but their kids had a Wii with Wii Sports and Brawl which they had just gotten a couple of days prior. Since I was really little I kind of just sat there and watched them play the game when I was bored. The first thing I remember seeing was them playing Subspace and they were at the Zoo level with Lucas and Ness and they had just beaten Porky when Wario showed up. After seeing Wario shoot Ness with the arrow and turn him into a statue I became terrified of Wario for maybe the next year or so.

As for characters, I only knew of the Mario spin-off characters, Pikachu, Sonic, and the Pokemon Trainer who I thought was Ash Ketchum at the time. Everyone else I was introduced to through Smash Bros, specifically Brawl.

They're... pretty much the same? So... both, I guess.

My Corrins were called Sauren (Conquest, Male), Tyranna (Birthright, Female) and Lacertius (Revelations, Male). I made two Robins, Bolek and Aurore.
Yes, I know their names are weird. XD

Thinking about it could imagine if all the fan favorites got in this time?

Even if its through DLC.

Also I think I'll be more competitive this time due to it being so easy to get practice in on the switch.
