You Pokemon and DK fans are so spoiled. We Yoshi fans are in a bad spot where the franchise is too big to where having one rep isn't in itself a novelty (Wii Fit Trainer, Duck Hunt, etc.) but not big enough to pull any characters from. It's maddening!!!

Hey now, DK has got jacked **** for the moment, so, wait a moment. Who knows, maybe Kamek is amongst the new characters and we will be thrown off the rocket? I know you are joking, but Pokémon have gotten a lot over the years, DK? I cri evertym. Metroid finally got what they deserved and I'm very happy for them.

Not sure if it means anything since it is an older stage, but I figured it was worth bringing up. Also, 'Baio-Kun' is apparently the name for the Badge Academy Bunny.

I hate doing this but... What's a Baio-kun and why don't I see any results in google?

Can someone confirm that Pyra's voice actress denied on twitter that she worked on Smash? I remember hearing it, though I never found out if it were true or not.

Obviously it could just be an NDA, though I swear I remember something like this happening last Smash where someone spilled the beans on their inclusion in Smash 4 on Twitter.

There's a lot of spoilery stuff with her, so simpy put, she's badass. While she's in a similar situation as Chrom, unlike him she does have a ton of unique stuff to pull from. Dual swords + dual guns and cool animations that lend themselves well for Smash Bros. Cross could get in, but the game, marketing, etc. pushes Elma much harder than Cross, and Cross's accessibility to every weapon leaves them without a personal set of weapons.
A quick example I remembered, been a while since I've played: She interrupts a "bad guy monologue" by shooting their face, even if they are in a giant robot

I love this cutscene too, this games animation really leaves something to be desired but elma is cool

also like generally in chapter 11 she's a badass but extremely spoilery lol

She's Ok. but I want Shy Guy Captain more for the shy guy part than the pirate part.

But Yoshi series is really in the situation where it doesn't have any great choices for character with:
Kamek: His moveset potential is pretty generic and popularity is dwarfed by another Small spellcaster from a mario spinoff.
Baby Mario (& Luigi): not much to pull from, at most I see a IC Semi-Clone.
Poochy: not much to say really, an invincible, item-finding dog.

A problem with the Yoshi series is that it is, ultimately, an extension of Mario. So characters like Baby Mario (or any of the babies) would be considered Mario characters instead. Kamek may not even be different (since it's 'just' a Magikoopa (don't hurt me)).

Yoshi, at the very least, has quite a few stages (whether or not one considers that consolation is up to them)

Granted, I've never played the Yoshi games, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

This is unrelated to the current topic, it should however be noted that Elma is likely to become relevant fairly soon.

Spoiler: Xenoblade 2 datamine

Elma is apparently a Blade/enemy Blade in the game's code and will be coming via the 1.5.2 update, which should be some time in August. It would be a neat way to do some sort of X-promotion (pun intended) for Elma.

That's amazing can't wait for that. I hope that gives both Elma, Rex & Pyra more of a chance to make in Smash (DLC or not). I'm rooting for both of them.

We have Bowser Jr, so a Baby Bowser seems hella unlikely, and Baby Mario would most certainly be on a Yoshi to keep it true to his game.

That leaves Kamek, and, while I'd be down for it, the actual 'choices' are basically just him when it comes to Yoshi representation.

Yoshi's problem is that unlike Wario?

They really really really relied TOO heavily on the source material for their spin-off and never stood on their own with their own unique cast and villains.

Someone really needs to fix that as a future dev of a Yoshi game because while I love Yoshi? I much prefer Luigi and Wario's games because they have their own identity that is completely unique from Mario for the most part.

I am all for more Yoshi representation and I'll take what I can get even if I'm not too keen on Kamek

I mean you could do a Baby Mario Character just give him the Super Cape he gets in Yoshis Island when he gets the star power. Up Special could be Parachute Cape, Side Special could be Super Speed, Down Special could reference the spin Mario does in Super Mario World with his cape, and his Regular Special could be him throwing the Stars you collect to sustain the transformation in Yoshis Island. (Baby Luigi easily being an Alt. Costume)

The core cast of henchmen and villains is the same as Mario. Wario has Captain Syrup at least in his history. Luigi kinda increased King Boo unlike Mario ever had and has many many unique ghostly spirits that aren't just a bunch of boos.

The supporting cast is typically baby versions of the Mario cast. Luigi has E. Gadd and the aforementioned ghosts that create a vibrant cast. WarioWare is practically filled to the brim with a colorful supporting cast.

Yoshi hasn't really tried to do ANY of these things. They're typically just platformers starring Yoshi featuring a lot of Mario elements.

Some people actually would die to see Koopa Troopa and/or Dry Bones. (I'm not one of them).
A lot of Brawl Mods contain fully developed Koopa Troopa, plus, Koopa Troppa holds key roles, minor, but key roles in game, far more oftan than Goomba. So, I don't see your point.

Baby Mario and Kamek's first game is literally labelled Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. That alone puts doubt to the claim of them being considered a Yoshi character through and through when ''Super Mario" is right there in the title.
