Maybe Noah and Mio can use that mechanic since Xenoblade 3 has the class/job system? Swordfighter and Zephyr are the default for each and switch between the 2. What else to add? 2 more based on their party members for each side? Or have their weapons appear in certain attacks? Is it strange my take away was he was interested in job mechanics![]()
I think Cress Albane is probably like, Possible.Coin toss between Lloyd or Yuri.
I can't see it any other way.
Lloyd or bustSo, what do we think of the Tales of games getting a character?
And what about Lloyd in particular?
Indifferent on both accounts. So, what do we think of the Tales of games getting a character?

More likely than Klonoa or Heihachi, I'll say thatSo, what do we think of the Tales of games getting a character?

A Taiko stage, like the kind of over the top japanese asthetics you see in those games. If we were to get a new classic Namco arcade game as a stage, which one would you pick?
I think Mappy could be pretty fun.
How would you feel about an SRW rep? Since that's also Namco.I find most Namco options more interesting than Lloyd or Tales of. Most of the major Tekken or Soul Calibur characters, someone from Dark Souls, Taizo Hori, Agumon/Greymon, the Prince from Katamari, Don-Chan, Mametchi, Rick Taylor, Klonoa, even the Galaga ship or the Pac-Man ghosts…are they as likely? Variable, I guess, Lloyd probably crops up more than apt of them, but Lloyd and his series are something I have never been aware of before Smash Flash/post-Brawl speculation, and nothing has really sold me on why he should move past being a Mii Swordfighter. I feel bad for being this negative, though.
Ooh maybe you fight on a platform depicting the notes being played like in the games, and the longer the song goes on, the more elaborate the stage becomes as platforms appear and everyone jumps in the background and starts dancing.A Taiko stage, like the kind of over the top japanese asthetics you see in those games.
Nightmare is my choice.(If we're getting someone from Namco, that's my choice)
you shouldn't feel bad. if you're not interested, you're not interested. smash wants don't have to be any deeper than thatI find most Namco options more interesting than Lloyd or Tales of. That’s what I’ve always been saying! And while I’m here, I wish Nintendo bought AlphaDream as well, if only to save them from bankruptcy.Man I really wish Nintendo bought Rare.
I played through Grabbed by the Ghoulies and Kameo recently and they just feel SO Nintendo it hurts. Especially Grabbed by the Ghoulies which is ACTUALLY just a GameCube game ported to the Xbox. Those games are wildly creative.
we could’ve had a slew of Rare characters in Smash by now like Joanna Dark, Kameo, maybe even Conker but, well, we all know how that went
Same here although I feel like they were already on a downward trend before Microsoft bought them. Maybe that’s why Nintendo didn’t try harder to keep them. RARE is one of my favorite developers ever and a lot of my most wanted Smash characters are made by them. K. Rool was my ballot pick, Dixie is one of my most wanted Nintendo characters, and the Battletoads and Fulgore are both in my top five overall most wanted. Joanna Dark would be awesome too.Man I really wish Nintendo bought Rare.

I think it would be awesome if we got both Zero and Bass.Exe. I feel like that would actually be possible if a merger ever happened. Nemesis, Leon, Amaterasu, Guile, Vega, and Juri Han, Masamune Date and Pharaoh Man would be some of my other favorites. Some of those are obviously way more likely than others.I really wish Nintendo and Capcom had a merger.
So many new 1st Party possibilities...
why would you want even more monopoliesI really wish Nintendo and Capcom had a merger.

Also apparently some of the decision that happened by Rare weren’t by Microsoft.Same here although I feel like they were already on a downward trend before Microsoft bought them. Honestly I'd say it's straight up a residential area with a drug store in it rather than a shopping district. There's also never been an "interior shopping area" Smash stage, hell, the exterior shopping district stage (Onett) barely counts as is.
I don’t really think those characters would be in Smash. Realistically I think they’d just end up with all of Nintendo’s other dormant franchises.we could’ve had a slew of Rare characters in Smash by now like Joanna Dark, Kameo, maybe even Conker but, well, we all know how that went
I rag on "redundant stages" a lot and this would basically be an even split of them, and I also rag on "completing groups mentality" even more... but damn, it'd be so cool if we got all 4 of them. Infinite jump mechanic would be a hillarious gimmick, especially combined with stage morph. There also hasn't been a stage that allows player to fight underwater. Maridia from Super Metroid would be perfect for this.
They might not have ever gone dormant had they stayed with Nintendo. It’s hard to say what would have happened. Even if they did, I think RARE’s characters were big enough during their era to warrant their spot as legacy picks. The Battletoads would give them a great NES era character and Fulgore would actually be a rep of their first fighting game franchise, predating Smash. GoldenEye and Perfect Dark were pretty huge on N64 and were Nintendo’s intro to shooters, far predating Splatoon. I feel like that’s enough to warrant all three a spot. Conker, Grabbed by the Ghoulies, and Kameo weren’t really as revolutionary at the time so they’d likely just get spirits or Assist Trophies.I don’t really think those characters would be in Smash. Realistically I think they’d just end up with all of Nintendo’s other dormant franchises.
I feel like there's 2 reasons why not. The first is that established water mechanics disallow this, as fighters swim for a few seconds on top of the water, then drown, and the second is that some characters just straight up take damage in water, which would mean that you'd be at an inherent disadvantage if you brought Inkling or Charizard to...SSF2's Steel Diver stage for example. There also hasn't been a stage that allows player to fight underwater. Maridia from Super Metroid would be perfect for this.
There's a truth to this sentiment, those IPs would be more recognised by Nintendo players than Xbox players, that would likely mean more successful releases and thus more profit... but ultimately, if you read up on Rare as a company, there's a pretty long history of reluctance to keep IPs ongoing, much moreso than Nintendo has ever had (and even then they're infamous for that too), that doesn't have much to do with Xbox/Microsoft. Brevity is really in the general nature of British pop culture, there's a reason why "wait, there's only 15 Mr. Beans? I saw hundreds of those as a kid!" is a meme. Even then, Conker Live & Reloaded sold better on Xbox than Nintendo, so it's not like Rare IPs wouldn't have legs with Microsoft fans, there's just never been a proper push. (video in general has a lot of interesting Rare info, but mostly linking as it relates to Conker sales. 22:22 has an interesting portion on Kinect Sports and the narratives surrounding that)They might not have ever gone dormant had they stayed with Nintendo.
or indeed a Starfy stageThere also hasn't been a stage that allows player to fight underwater. Maridia from Super Metroid would be perfect for this.
Because of Killer Instinct (2013) not happening, the character choice wouldn't necesserilly be Fulgore. Or, well...He's on the boxart of the SNES version, but the game has Jago selected by default, and the arcade before that has...T. J. Combo? I knew it was kinda weird with Jago giving protagonist vibes but Fulgore being the mascot, but man......Fulgore would actually be a rep of their first fighting game franchise, predating Smash.
You could always make the physics floaty on the normal version of the stage (like the wind section of Pokemon Stadium) but use normal physics for the Omega and Battlefield versions. All things considered, I don't really get why an underwater stage couldn't just run on SpongeBob-crossover logic and have the water be cosmetic. If suitless gravity-bound Lylat Cruise is fine, so is suitless gravity-bound water.
You make good points but I feel there’s still a case to be made for Smash in wanting to celebrate their past in addition to promoting what’s current. Whether they’re dormant or not, those games were still a big part of Nintendo’s past. I’d say that warrants consideration for Smash. I still think there’s a legit argument to be made for them even being owned by Microsoft. They’re not really relevant today but they have stronger ties to Nintendo than almost any other third party characters. I’d say that counts for something. And even then, Nintendo does let bestseller IPs lie. Nintendogs outsold Pokemon, spawned a massive merchandising push, got a sequel that outsold Monster Hunter 4... and has been MIA since before the Wii U came out.
Spongebob Crossover? All things considered, I don't really get why an underwater stage couldn't just run on SpongeBob-crossover logic and have the water be cosmetic. If suitless gravity-bound Lylat Cruise is fine, so is suitless gravity-bound water.
Yeah, that’s pretty much what my thinking was as well. Mascots might not be the first character but they’re almost always in every entry. I’d say Scorpion and Nightmare are more likely for Smash than Liu Kang and Kilik. I’m still confused how Scorpion completely missed the base Mortal Kombat 3 and didn’t make it in until UMK3. It’s unusual to drop the main mascot from an entry. Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li even all made it back for Street Fighter 3 despite everyone else being cut.The boxarts are weird for Killer Instinct. Gargos is the main one on the N64 game itself.
Either way, Fulgore is the mascot of it, being the core logo too. It's just that Jago is the de facto protagonist, so it made sense to start with him in 2013. They also gave Fulgore a new story piece(Jago isn't that changed), and he had a massive overhaul of his gameplay mechanics(far less than Jago's), making him a lot harder to get into in comparison. He's not a good starter character cause of that.
So it makes sense why these things happened. Also, if you're starting with a single character, the general franchise protagonist when the game has a lot of story tends to make sense. The mascot is still important too, but they can very often serve a completely different purpose in how it's handled. When Nightmare split from Siegfried, Siegfried was still the clear protagonist despite not being the actual mascot(he was only by proxy in some games, due to still being Nightmare). Also keep in mind by now that the story factors started to increase a lot more via things like Comics by the time of KI2013. Also, it's a new timeline as well(this is why Fulgore got a new story beat), and you usually want to have the protagonist start it off. It can absolutely vary, though. Mortal Kombat doesn't always start with Liu Kang, though generally he's the protagonist, but sometimes he's not actually one(via spin-offs), or they change it up heavily(Mortal Kombat 1 did this with having Raiden as the new Earth Champion), etc.
Point being that being the Mascot doesn't mean you're always going to be the starter character in the normal franchise. Nor does that mean you're the inherent pick for Smash(though it's certainly something that can happen too).
While not a fighting game, a 1/2 example of this was Pikachu in Generation 5.I’m still confused how Scorpion completely missed the base Mortal Kombat 3 and didn’t make it in until UMK3. It’s unusual to drop the main mascot from an entry. Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li even all made it back for Street Fighter 3 despite everyone else being cut.
Oh man if only there was a Nintendo-exclusive Square Enix series that had a diverse job systemView attachment 402343Having a Final Fantasy character that utilizes a bunch of different jobs from the series would be really cool, but I think they should exist alongside Cloud.
I’d say Octopath Traveller is a good fit for this too. I generally prefer Octopath’s characters to Bravely’s but both series are fun. I’m personally hoping for H’aanit. They might even be able to do a Hero/Bowser Jr. style if they wanted to and have all the characters as alts and allow you to switch between jobs. They’d have to make some compromises in character scale and go with a middle ground for all their sizes so no one looks truly awkward but I think they could make it work. If that’s way too much trouble (it likely is), I’d love just a standalone H’aanit Hunter moveset. That alone is really unique for Smash.Oh man if only there was a Nintendo-exclusive Square Enix series that had a diverse job system

The times we argued "Smash is always out within the first two years of a console's life" are looking very stupid now that I've been reminded that this was objectively, factually incorrect. This just kinda feels like the same situation as Kid Icarus Uprising coming out before Smash 4 to me. Like Sakurai made a launch window title for the new system, and then he'll start working on Smash and it'll come out a few years in, like how Smash 3DS didn't come out until 2014 when the 3DS itself came out in 2011.
I do like the first Bravely Default (Both parts) as it has its unique story revolving around the player being the TRUE GOD of the world. Honestly, I haven't really finished either of them due to the long playtime and grinding EXP for class and skills. Also, here is creativity of someone placing Cuphead's deaths in Smash Bros based on the character.Oh man if only there was a Nintendo-exclusive Square Enix series that had a diverse job system
