The problem is that there's just not that many females in the Nintendo universe who are as significant as Samus, Peach, and Zelda are. :( I say Nintendo should introduce some new game franchise with female leading role!

You will not see a fourth DK rep. I'd bet my ballsack on it
I hope you stay true to that bet. :troll:

While I agree that we will probably get 3 DK characters, four DK characters is possible. So I wouldn't get too confident.

Eh I think Dixie's chance has came and went. Most of those girls have only a small chance really, excluding whatever Kid Icarus girl will be in
Excluding Kid Icarus girls? Palutena's the only one with a chance. And Dixie has more star power and legacy behind her. Compared to practically every other suggestion, she's the most sensible female newcomer.

Medusa being the other with a slight possibility. Palutena will definitely be the choice though. Dixie isn't sensible at all. DK doesn't need 4 reps, and including a character just because she's a female isn't something that is going to happen otherwise Krystal would've been in Brawl over Wolf.

Well I agree on that point, because a character's sex shouldn't dictate whether they are included or not. But Dixie is the most deserving female not yet included (and even then, her inclusion isn't that imminent, nor is it required). DK can easily get 4 characters, however (it could end up being DK, Diddy, and Dixie as well, leaving K. Rool out). But yeah, I highly doubt there will be more than 1 Kid Icarus newcomer, if any at all, and Palutena has that spot locked up should it happen.

Basically this.

We cannot blame Smash for not including interesting female characters simply because companies don't make interesting female characters. Smash can only work on what already exists, and what already exists is very lacking in female representation. You can say the same thing for non-white characters (Ice Climbers are def. ****** but other than that the characters are all to my knowledge white or some light-skinned but unnamed race).

I don't want female characters to be included for the sake of including female characters. I don't want female characters to be shoved in and end up playing poorly because then people go "oh, the female characters play poorly! Ugh!". I want female characters that are awesome and that everyone, male, female or otherwise, enjoys. For example, Zero Suit Samus made me play with Samus which I never did before, and it made me really appreciate having a woman character who kicks butt directly. Peach and Zelda have their appeal, but Samus is cool in that Michael Jackson bad sort of way.

Unfortunately, being that female representatives of franchises are few and far in-between, I doubt we'll see any worthy female candidates. Lip is one of the few I support, but her chances are so small that I can't see it happening.

Sorry, perhaps this isn't the right topic, but anybody mind telling me why Palutena is all of the sudden seen as a shoe-in character? Is it because she is one of the more important characters of a series that Sakurai just happened to revive?

I understand that logic, but I don't really see the series still being quite relevant enough for a second character, myself.

Yeah, pretty much that, though while I'd say she has a good chance as a Kid Icarus character, it's still not shoe-in.

As for Krystal Sakurai didn't even know Krystal existed (which is strange because of the polls) and by the time she did become a requested character, it was late in the game instead of the first half of the gamecube cycle.

For females I can see Krystal or Palutena. Not really much outside of that. I've said this so many times and I'll repeat it again: It all depends on roster direction.

I personally have a great distaste for Krystal because of her fanbase. I like her in the Star Fox series, and I used to back her for Smash based on the whole "need females" argument. But that is truthfully a bad argument.

Palutena is popular, because after Uprising players realized that she now has a personality, and could easily have a magic based moveset. I for one agree with this idea, and as long as the characters can add something to the game, and clearly be shown to have that ability, then I'm in support.

Krystal's fanbase (along with others) have toned down quite a lot after Brawl came out. I remember when the Ridley supporters were so flipping nuts that they got their own thread locked down (Someone here has to still have pictures of that, right?!). Like, some may still be gigantic, but they've all toned down at least a bit.

Honestly the only character who I see who did gain rep is K. Rool.

You shouldn't let a fanbase ruin a character for you if I can be totally honest. But oh well.

The only female character's who would excite me the most would be Anna, Lyn, Lip, Palutena, Medusa and Zoroark (I know Zoroark can be both male or female but she would probably be based on the female ones if she was made playable). Everyone else in my sig would be pretty cool too though.

And yeah, having females for the sake of having more females is indeed a very poor reason to support them.

I don't hate Krystal by any means. But I've turned more against her for Smash 4 because of her fan base is all.

Fanbase can make you hate a character. Look at Impa and you get what I mean. ;)

You add the females who are most popular Nintendo ladies, simple as that. We can have as many females as we like, as long as Sakurai thinks all them deserve a shot with high amounts of general statistics.

Outside of Palutena, Lucina, Female PKMN Trainer alt, and possibly Bayonetta no other girls really have much of a shot. Daisy is already represented in Peach's color scheme and would never be a standalone character. Krystal's time expired years ago

Pretty much this. No other female characters are terribly deserving of a slot on the roster except for Dixie Kong as legendofrob1 pointed out.

Of course, there's always the possibility that things will change before the release of Smash 4. For all we know, new potential female reps may be a possibility in the future. I guess E3 will decide that one.

IMO the only thing I think that is needed is a more casual friendly easy to pick up female character.

Most female characters tend have a more difficult play styles that take a longer time to master (i.e. Zelda, Peach, Palutena?). Since female players are more likely to be casual players this presents a small problem.

The only effective conventional easy to pick up fighter who is feminine enough to appeal to this kind of audience is Zero suite Samus. Which in herself isn't an obvious choice to casuals due to the transformation.

Thankfully in my experience most casual female players of this nature tend to go for cute characters like Kirby and Pikachu regardless of the gender so it isn't really a big deal. Just a thought.

You know something, there's one particular female request that's been throwing me off all this time.. why do ppl keep suggesting Female Pokemon Trainer????? I mean, does the gender of the pokemon trainer really matter? And even if she does make the cut, what would even be the legit choice of pokemons? Honestly, if that doesn't have "sexist" written all over it, I don't know what does!

For me personally, I don't really want another Pokemon Trainer of any kind that takes up another slot. However, in the chance that we get alternative costumes, and we have Pokemon Trainer, I think it's only fair that Leaf gets in as an alternate costume of Pokemon Trainer.

Then you probably don't know what does.
I think it's just people who want another Pokemon trainer figure that it might as well be a female character just for some variance.

I mostly hear suggestions for a female trainer as a costume, not a separate character. The Pokemon Trainer isn't a specific character; he's simply an avatar that represents the gameplay of his series, so giving him another character for a costume isn't a big deal. Considering this, in addition to the fact that the Pokemon games always give the option of playing as a female starting with Crystal Version, it would be fitting if players could choose the trainer's gender in Smash Bros. as well.

I assume it'll be like Wario, giving the player the ability to choose between the two. Seems logical.

Female villager as an alt would work out really smoothly, I think. I bet the villager's voice is youthfully androgynous already.

I do seriously think of Impa as a fantastic female candidate. She's a reoccurring character of a prominent series whose role was introduced way back in the NES days. Try to forget any distaste for her caused by certain board members and don't think of her as competition for Sheik and instead think more about her continued importance to the series and the things they could do with someone wielding shadow magic.

Also, I really appreciate that she's yet to be turned into a sexual female character. All in all, she's a great and strong female character that's been put in the spotlight several times now. ... and, hey, it seems that Link's sticking to his TP design, so Impa could represent Skyward Sword.

Female Wii Fit Trainer... Hrmm. Mixed thoughts... but there ya go. Female rep... notttt who I would've picked. :p

Advance Wars and Fire Emblem are good sources for prominent female characters, though of course the series are not as popular or iconic as those mentioned in your post.

Villager will probably have some kind of female alt. It'd make sense, and alternate costumes seems like a real possibility.

Her fanbase here is totally NUTS and they like her for the most ******** reasons. They acted like such entitled crybabies when Wolf was confirmed and they label anyone who has a negative opinion of her as a "troll" and are too butthurt to admit that she isn't a shoo-in rep as they like to always believe. Star fox has enough reps and they don't deserve more. Its not that big of a franchise. Hell, DKC is more relevant and deserves more reps. Dixie has starred in her own games and has been playable in a few mario side games. Shes pretty much the only deserving female character that is popular with people here. What has Krystal done other than have a vagina?

I don't see a character's gender as a necessity in the slightest. But there's some female characters that I'd really like to see playable in Smash. Maybe we will see some other females added to the roster at some point. But I'll admit I'm more hyped for the possibility of Ridley and Isaac than any other character that hasn't been announced.

Not entirely but when it came down to her and the male Wii Fit trainer and the talking balence board, let's just say that choice isn't unexpected.

The boy villager being the default when the character could have been female to me shows female reps aren't a priority.
