I told you once already to mind your tongue. Stop bringing up issues like that unless you want to get **** on, homophobe. You don't need to point out in every single one of your posts that "gays are gross! I hate gays", okay? Keep it to yourself.

It is not only my democratic right as an American citizen, but as a God-fearing bible-abiding Christian that my voice can be heard among countless other voices. I don't like the opinions of other people either, but that doesn't mean I won't let them speak out their mind, even if it doesn't conform to my mindset. That said, you have your opinions and I have mine, and if you don't like it, cry elsewhere. Now, let's drop the subject.

Wow, with so many people against having female characters, I'd expect that from San Francisco rainbow-loving, disease-ridden gays, not from honest-to-good people posting on Smashboards. WE NEED TO BE BETTER THAN THAT!!! :ohwell: Still, we can't just add female characters JUST BECAUSE they are females - it would be reverse discrimination then. IF we need to add females, they must fit this criteria:

.

You are a despicable human being, if you can even be called that. :)

But you should at least get your stereotypes right. Gay men love strong female characters and divas. It's straight men and little boys who think girls have cooties who have more of a problem with playing as a female character.
Then why do they fear the vagina so much?

I can't tell if the first part is sarcasm (never heard a christian call themselves god fearing)

For speaking my mind? I'm a despicable human being, because I speak my mind? I'd be much more respectful of others around here. Show some respect.

To speak about other people that way? That's despicable. After all, I'm just using my "freedom of speech." :smirk:

It's like when black people call themselves the "N" word - they take a once offensive term and apply to themselves to make it not offensive anymore (even if I don't agree with that).

well there are black people who hate the fact that some black people use that word (my step dad for example)

Unless you yourself happen to be a homosexual, that is completely irrelevant to what you said.

As a christian myself I don't really think it's right to be insulting anyone regardless, if we agree with what they are doing or not.
My grandmother always said "You may not agree what others do, but as long as they are not endangering others well being you should respect them."

I'm having a hard time taking this guy seriously.
Then why do they fear the vagina so much?
We do? This is the first I've heard of that. They're really not that scary.

But it is funny to see it suggested that gay men would have a problem with playing as female characters.
(never heard a christian call themselves god fearing)
That's actually a common term used by Christians. It might be a little old-fashioned to use it casually, but you're supposed to fear God's righteous judgment, hence why you ask for his mercy and receive it through the grace of Jesus Christ or something along those lines.

My gripe is that more characters that could have been either female or male could have been female to make it less of a sausagefest. Wii Fit Trainer is the first, though I am surprised the Villager is male especially given that greater install-base for New Leaf in Japan is female. Could have also done that for Pokemon Trainer in Brawl.

Wow, you just keep digging yourself into the hole...
Quit your ****ing whining. You want to say something completely offensive? Suck it up and accept the consequences.
Wow, this. I'm accepting I may have crossed a boundary, so I'm trying to be the man here and MOVE ON!!! I get it. You may not, but others might. Let's drop the subject, and move on elsewhere. Let's talk about the subject of female characters, instead.

wow is this really a thread
a character should not get priority over another character because of their gender
thinking gender is important is moronic
I don't think it should be a priority, but it's another factor that is part of their character that should be taken into consideration.

LET'S CHANGE THE SUBJECT!!! ENOUGH FIGHTING!!!!! :(
If that's what you want you should probably should refrain from saying offensive things towards other communities on a board for speculating fighting game characters.

Yeah, I really hope there is a costume change for the villager considering he doesn't talk. And making a female Pokemon Trainer model as an alternate costume (in the style of Leaf) seems so easy, I don't see why they wouldn't do it for Smash 4.

Honestly, I thought the Villager would be more of an Avatar character, but with the Wii Fit Trainer, I guess that was Nintendo saying, "Yep, we got our woman". :ohwell: That said, they might have a separate attire for the Villager, both a male and female version, to appease the Animal Crossing fans who may be women.

Once again, it doesn't stop just because you say so. What you said was entirely uncalled for, and you should be ashamed for saying it.

To answer the thread's question, I do not believe a character should get in due to just being female. They should get in if they offer something not as superficial. Like Palutena, for example. She'd offer a cool light-based moveset, Centurion attacks, and funny dialogue.

I don't think the female version would be to appease women. It's just to mimic the game, in which you can be both male and female.

okay a common argument is to compare SF to Smash when it comes to women and I am tired of hearing that because it is a bad argument and I shall explain why (again)

Street fighter can add all the women they want because they aren't a crossover they make up all the character Smash bros is a crossover and has to use Nintendo characters that Sakurai feels will be a good addition to smash its not his fault most 1st party games focus on male characters
most games focus on males because for a long time men were pretty much the only ones who played video games but now girls are starting to play games also but it is still a small number of women (not counting games like angry birds or bejeweled)

By that, I meant for the female Animal Crossing fans, there could be a Female Villager that activates as a different attire, just like Classic vs. Current Wario. That way, it doesn't limit an AVATAR character to just one gender.

I disagree gender should not matter when it comes to picking a roster they did that **** with injustice and plenty of people got pissed (picking Killer Frost over Captain Cold ..... well picking killer frost over any ice villain ..... well picking killer frost over any character at all)

NOBODY on this thread is saying women should get in because TEH WOMEN. They are just saying IF there should be more female representatives, they should be DESERVING of the roles, like Palutena or Dixie Kong or elsewhere. NOBODY is saying we should exclude deserving characters like Ridley and King K. Rool just so we can have women.

from what I've seen on other threads they only want girls because "they are female" and that is it

WE NEED TO BE BETTER THAN THAT!!! :ohwell: Still, we can't just add female characters JUST BECAUSE they are females - it would be reverse discrimination then. IF we need to add females, they must fit this criteria:

1. They need to represent an important aspect of the industry or a video game series (like Samus).
2. They are highly-requested characters in the first place (like Ridley).
3. They contribute to the overall balance of the roster, as Sakurai wants.
4. They shouldn't be on the roster just solely because of TEH SEX APPEAL. Refer to Point 1.

For term 3, by that I mean the female character has to add not only diversity to the roster, but bring something to the table that hasn't been brought yet by another character. But again, don't add a female character if another more popular male character can fulfill that role better, or if the female character is only there because we need more females (add Ashley instead of Jimmy T?).

IF we add a female character to the roster, they must DESERVE their place in the roster. Characters like Palutena and Dixie Kong are good examples. Krystal and Lyndis are not.

female gamers are 47% of gamers.

I had this list on the other page, but here's a list of possible female characters who played strong roles within their games to make them worthy of being in Smash 4 with a few additions:

Playable characters

Dixie Kong (Donkey Kong Country)
Midna (with Wolf Link)(Zelda)

yeah that list seems about right. the problem is with some of those characters is that their series protagonists arent even in Smash yet so unless we get 2 from one series this time around i wouldnt hold my breathe on those ones.

I think I know what list you are talking about they counted middle aged women who only played bejeweled and I said I did not count them

some of the characters on your list would be cool but with most there is a man that would rep the franchise better (I'm not against girls in smash I just think gender should not be considered when selecting a roster)

There's nothing suggest that any number of these women are just "middle aged woman" playing bejeweled. Even then, female gamers is by no means a new thing to gaming.

Taking out female characters from unrepped franchises with male lead protagonists:
Lucina (Fire Emblem 13)
Lyn (Fire Emblem 7)
Anna (all Fire Emblems)
Dixie Kong (Donkey Kong Country)
Midna (with Wolf Link)(Zelda)
Krystal (Star Fox)
Sami (Advance Wars)
Kachi (Sin and Punishment: Star Successor)
Mona (WarioWare)
Kat and Anna (WarioWare)
Ashley (Warioware)
Lip (Panel de Pon)
Medusa (Kid Icarus)
Palutena (Kid Icarus)

Kachi is equally playable in S&P. Same with Sami in AW.

I don't think the figure for the number of women playing games even has to be accurate or equal, anyways. There are enough.

Outside of Smash Bros it would certainly help the market if so many things didn't look like they were aimed at heterosexual boys (because they are), though in a case like this Nintendo is just a very... older Japanese company, with some of the senior design staff being subject to criticism for sexism more than once in the past, such as Shigeru Miyamoto and Yoshio Sakamoto. Aside from a few Fire Emblem characters, it is not like I would be happy with many of the characters they represent "females" with. Whether it is some bimbo in a pink dress, someone who exists just to be captured, or both. While it helps to produce more even figures it is not exactly a fair representation.

I can't remember what study it was but it said the largest group of "gamers" are women over the age of 30 that play puzzle games mostly bejeweled and I don't really count them

the new list is better but again men can rep some of those games better
