ya it was cuz when you highlight it in stage stage selection, it has a logo, which is the DS, and trust me, DS doesnt have any character mascots, so it would be impossible to make a character (unless it was actually the DS)

The only thing that Sakurai's comment changed now, is that Animal Crossing doesn't need to have a character.

Hey, does the "new", "leaked" roster fit into this pattern that yo uall discovered? I'm just curious.

Why defend him Byron?

Unless....omg multiple accounts!!
I swear to you that I am not NyaseNya, though I'm sure that means nothing to you at this point. Just look at NyaseNya's past posts like I did and you'll see that he said he was lying in one of them.

And someone just posted something about a "leaked roster". Well, that was posted on GameFAQs and the person who made the post revealed it was fake. There's another topic on the SmashBoards about it. That is all.

I doubt it. Coro Coro's a reputable source and all of that. Whether or not they're revealing the entire roster, just the starters, or something else like just what's been revealed is still pretty much up in the air. We'll just have to wait nine more days.

Question about the icon theory: When do you think the creators created the list of icons for the first smash game? If that list/order was created with the first game, then I have no complaints, but what if that order was created during the melee era (or even the brawl era)? If that's the case, then why would he switch from an order based on characters to one based on franchises? That makes no sense.

Do you see what I'm saying? If he created both "orders" at the same time then there's no reason to change the basis of the order.
Yo Dyce! Answer please.

Answer to Boofer:

. . . I don't know?

I don't think it matters when or how they created the icon list for SSB64 because there was no "Dojo" for it (as far as I know). Sakurai never had to give them an address on the internet to file them for easy access. But maybe he did have them on a personal computer, like maybe probably possibly the ones that were used to develop the game? (:psycho:)

Anyway, I think the last "Dojo" for Melee had a similar order to how the characters ultimately ended up in order on the 'Characters' page. They may have ultimately ended up configuring an order there, which worked and carried onto Brawl.

And once again, I believe that Sakurai may have changed the icon naming system to throw us off. It wasn't long for someone to notice that the icons had some sort of pattern, and that's exactly what I think Sakurai had anticipated. If Sakurai went with character names, it might be a little easier for us to predict the roster. But if he goes by series, then it would be more difficult for us to predict anything because we'd have more options to choose from.

For example, just look at the icon19 spot. We've got so much speculation as to what it may or may not be. A popular thought is "Rockman" (aka Megaman), but there's also "Pikumin" (aka Pikmin) and "Ogon no Taiyo Hirakareshi Fuin" (aka Golden Sun). If it was going by character name, we might be able to deduce that it was most likely Rockman because he's really the only name that fits there and has good chances because he was on Sakurai's list.

Sure it matters. Like I said, if the order of SSB64 icons was created before the melee era then it is possible that he could have changed the basis of the order because of fan speculation on the internet. However, if there was no order before the brawl or melee site came up then I don't think he would have switched up the order. In other words, if he created the list of icons all at the same time (for brawl) then why would he have started with characters in the first place if the order was in fact to prevent character predictions?

Who here DOESN'T think that Mr. GaW is an icon?
No one that seems the pattern

There really is no reason for Game & Watch not to return now that he's already an established Smash character with a unique moveset too...

I noticed something interesting on the Smash Dojo that nobody else noticed.
When I was right clickling on some images.
I came upon this
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/images/icon/world_b_18.gif
This is the link to the image for Pit's icon

Now, see the 18 at the end of the number? well look at these.
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/images/icon/world_b_10.gif -Mario series symbol
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/images/icon/world_b_09.gif -Zelda Series Symbol
http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/images/icon/world_b_01.gif - Smash Bros Symbol

all the numbers at the end mean what number symbol they are.
This means there is currently a total of 21 different series that may appear in Brawl right now.

So far I detected the order

1.Smash Bros.
2.DK series
3.Fox series
4.Kirby Series
5.F-Zero series
6.Metroid Series
7.Earthbound/Mother series
8.Pokemon Series
9. Zelda Series
10. Mario series
11.Yoshi series
12.Fire Emblem icon
13.??? (Possibly Game & Watch?)
14.Ice Climbers series
15.Animal Crossing icon
16.Wario symbol
17.Snakes FOXHOUND symbol
18.Pit's Symbol
19.???
20.Sonic series
21.DS Logo

Also many members have thought the list is going in Alphabetical Order by Japanese names.

It's currently uncomfirmed if this series will appear again

We currently do not have a symbol for #13 and #19, meaning that at least two more franchises will have multiple elements in Brawl. Note that 21 may not necessarily be the cap, by the way; it's just the highest number that we have at the present. It might be the cap, it might not be the cap; we'll just have to wait and see.

There's no way that they're watching us going "OMG look at de icons!!!1" and decided to mess with our heads. There's just no chance.

Also, though I hate to play into this, "Robin" (Isaac's name in Japanese" is feasible there.

we're all just probably paranoid and it'll probably end up being something stupid like sakurai doesn't like the numbers 13 and 19.

Has anyone considered the possibility that Dr. Mario getting his own WiiWare game could mean that he'll return with his own Pill icon and that G&W could still be axed?

I know it seems silly, but there will be a new Dr. Mario game out in a few months on WiiWare which Nintendo would probably like to push.

Ganondorf might not be the only clone with a revamped moveset brought back for Brawl...

I know it won't be a popular theory in this thread, but setting yourself up for disappointment sucks. I wouldn't say he's "confirmed" until the day he's announced on the Brawl site or you unlock him yourself.

But why would they change his Icon? They didn't do it for Bowser, he could've had his own Icon.

Dr. Mario is its own franchise. Bowser doesn't have a franchise to call his own.

It's a shot in the dark, but I just wouldn't rule it out as a possibility.

I've been certain about things in the past and been let down as a result. It's not a good idea to do it here, either.

Even with all the rush Melee had, a Pill icon seriously wouldn't have taken that long. It's an icon, it's 2-D. They only draw it once, and save it into the game. Come on now.
There was no new Dr. Mario on the horizon then, though.

There's a new Dr. Mario game coming out for WiiWare in 3-4 months and they could want to push it as its own franchise instead of lumping it in with the mushroom kingdom.

We could see a reinvented Dr. Mario with a series of moves modeled after the new game, for all we know.

I was 100% sure that Dr. Mario would be axed until they announced it for WiiWare. Now I'm not so sure. I agree that the G&W theory seems pretty sound, but the one upset is that Dr. Mario is no longer a shoe-out, as near as I can tell.

Kind of like how Mario Kart is its own series?

Mario Kart got the Mushroom Kingdom icon, so why would Dr. Mario get his own? Like it or not, the Dr. Mario series is a Super Mario spin-off.

I'm not disproving Dr. Mario (though I'm fairly certain absolutely 100% sure he won't be in Brawl), I'm just disproving his icon.

Also many members have thought the list is going in Alphabetical Order by Japanese names.
I'm slightly confused on how it's alphabetical. Zelda in Japan is "Zeruda no Densetsu" right? well if it's alphabetical then... wouldn't it.... be... the end? (Of course that's not the only out of place one there is.)

Then again, I'm not claiming to be well versed in the ways of Japanese alphabatization, just slightly confused.

Ah, see I thought it was just meaning series, I didn't realize we were going into details such as specific characters on some of them. That makes more sense then.

Don't be confused. The icons follow no alphabetical order whatsoever, so don't get lulled into thinking that. Dyce ol' chap here is one of the few people who still believes it does.

Well yes, it's confusing as hell to figure out, and it is flawed, but I mean it's not like there isn't SOME order you can pull out of all this. The series aren't just hodgepodged together, and its not like I'm reaching far to make sense of it. Everything is basically bare bones with just a few outliers.

has anyone put thought that after Sonic's icon, starts system (oposed to series icons) icons. DS is the first Nintendo system alphebetically. Possibly every system nintendo has made will get a stage, or at least most. This would leave the alphebetical theory intact, because other than DS, it pretty much follows suit for the newcomers.

And for the love of god, don't just throw some crappy "No, [some dumb thing] you're wrong, case closed" or some junk like that. I have reason to believe that it would work this way. Think about it, a system icon is NOT a series icon.

Now GameWatch is the exception to this because it was in Melee and therefore goes with them, but that should be obvious.

I agree that there must be some order they've got going here, why else would they mysteriously skip over 13 and 19 otherwise? However, English alphabetizing is clearly not it, and we've proven this many times.

The way you currently have them, yes, you are. Having to change language entirely is a bit far. In reality:

What matters is the fact that they're ordered by what game the universe debuted in. That is fact and proven and it is all that can be said for sure.
This is really all that can be said about the icons.

And as for that "Consoles" thing, I could see that happening, though "Virtual Boy" is definitely a stretch. I could see the Brawlers fighting on top of a giant Gamecube, with this logo as it's icon:

Number 21 could potentially be "Touch! Generations," and fit within the whole alphabetical thing.
