Is this you? Do you wait for a couple of weeks to play in a tournament, just to get offed by a bad match-up in the first round or two? Do you know that if you took on everyone, you would make a great showing? Do you feel like when you lose, it's always on a fluke?
Well, TOO BAD!!
No More Excuses marked my return from a long-time absence in tournament hosting. It defied traditional online tournament format in favor of the much more comprehensive "Round-robin" bracket. The rules were standard tournament fare for the most part, but the tournament is now over, so if you're just reading this for the first time, you missed the fun!
In a round-robin tournament, the bracket is represented in a "lattice" styled graphic display. You will be given an entry number upon registration, which you're expected to keep track of. This number will line up with all of the other numbers to indicate each match-up.
You may play ANY OTHER PLAYER AT ANY TIME. In a round-robin tournament, you must fight against every other participant. This should allow for a MUCH easier scheduling process for most of the tournament, since you're not forced to focus on one specific person at a time. Play whoever is available.
Unlike single- and double-elimination match-ups, in a round-robin tournament, you are NOT eliminated if you lose a match-up. As a matter of fact, you will not be eliminated AT ALL. Even if you lose every match you take part in, you're still in the tournament until you play every match or the time runs out.
Every match-up you win will net you a "point." The player with the most points at the end of the tournament wins the tournament.
In the result of a tie in points, a final 3/5 match-up will be played between the tied participants.
Any matches not played by the deadline count as ZERO [0] POINTS for both competitors. If a match is agreed to be unplayable (due to scheduling conflicts and/or connection issues), a discretionary "neutral" point will be awarded to both players.

Well, TOO BAD!!
No More Excuses marked my return from a long-time absence in tournament hosting. It defied traditional online tournament format in favor of the much more comprehensive "Round-robin" bracket. The rules were standard tournament fare for the most part, but the tournament is now over, so if you're just reading this for the first time, you missed the fun!
Standard Tournament Rules:
- Each match will be 3 stock matches, best 2 out of 3 matches. A 3/5 set will determine finals tiebreakers if necessary.
- An 8:00 timer is optional, but not required. HOWEVER, if either player desires the time limit, the timer MUST be set. This desire must be made clear BEFORE the match starts.
- No items. (Of course.)
- Stage choice for the first match can be decided in one of three ways:
-Agreement: Players may agree to play on a stage before the match begins.
-The "striking" method: Each player alternately "strikes" a neutral from the list, and both play on the remaining stage.
-Double random neutral: Each player simply randoms the neutral when they play the match.
In cast of a disagreement, use the stage-striking method.
- The loser of the previous match is allowed to counterpick their stage from any neutral or counterpick stage not banned by either opponent.
Players will devise a way to indicate their counterpicks to each other before the match starts. The easiest ways to do this are:
-Indicating your CP before the match begins.
-Chatting via AIM/YIM/MSN/etc. during play to indicate CPs (not recommended, as it effects connection).
-Using your online name/profile quote to indicate your CP.
- If time runs out, winner is determined by stock, then percentage if necessary.
- Bowsercide victory rule is in effect.
- Excessive stalling through glitches is banned.
- Infinite combos, spamming, chain grabs, and "cheap" tactics ARE allowed. Get past them or admit you suck.
- Infinite combos must end before 250% damage is reached. Anything beyond that point is considered stalling.
Online Match Rules:
- You're expected to play through the lag if there is a bad connection.
- In the event of a disconnect, if one person is clearly at fault, they forfeit that specific battle (not the entire match). If fault can't be clearly attributed to anyone, the battle should just be replayed if possible.
- In the event that both players agree a match to be unplayable, the match will be declared a draw.
- If a person is challenged and doesn't present themselves by the tournament deadline, it is an automatic win for the challenger.
- *NEW* Make your presence known. Because you don't have any specific person you must face at any specific time, finding matches should be no problem for you. Post on this topic and actively PM people for challenges.
- *NEW* Because of the number of people interested in this tournament, it's important that you remain active. If you go one week without activity, a query PM will be sent to you as a warning, and you'll be given a day to respond before being replaced by one of the alternates.
No More Excuses! Special Rules:
- Each player may ban any ONE [1] STAGE from use during their entire run of the tournament. This stage may NOT be selected against them or chosen via random. Any stage may be banned, but the stage banned CANNOT be changed after the first match is played. Players must indicate their banned stage when they register.
- Each player may ban any ONE [1] CHARACTER from being selected against them for the entire run of this tournament. This character may not be selected in any match-up against that player, nor can it be randomly selected.
BANNING CHARACTERS IN YOUR MATCHES DOES NOT EFFECT ANYONE ELSE'S MATCHES.
For instance, if Player 1 bans Ness, Player 2, Player 3, and Player 4 CANNOT select Ness against Player 1. They CAN select Ness against each other, however, unless one or more of them also have Ness banned.
Like the player-banned stage, the banned character must be indicated upon registration, and can't be changed after the person's first match has been played.
(Pokemon Trainer counts as a single character. Zelda/Sheik and Samus/ZSS count as separate characters. However, if Sheik is banned, Zelda may not change into her AT ALL during the match. The reverse also applies.)
