yes you should change the bracket if two people who fight all the time fight first round/second round
because technically if you seed it right that instance shouldn't come up

like not paying the pot fee
I haven't done it yet, but for my next tournaments, I'll pay the pot fee but not the venue fee (assuming we have enough to pay the venue).
My reasoning is that the venue fee includes more than the venue (the TVs and GCs brought by my association as well as the various things you need to run a tournament). So I assume it is fair for the important staff member not to pay it in compensation for their effort.
On the other hand, I'd always pay the pot fee : even though I suck, if I enter the tournament, it means I get a shot at getting money. And I don't think it's fair to have the possibility to get money without giving some like all the other attendants did.

Yes, to a certain extent. It doesn't happen to me that often in winner brackets because I create my bracket to avoid this kind of situation. However, in losers, that's hard to avoid. If it happens, I ask all four players if they agree on this change, and if all four do agree, I switch them accordingly.

I don't pay the two dollar venue fee, since the venue would make nothing without me there. The money for the pot MUST be right at all times. If 16 people enter a ten dollar tournament, then the pot must be 160, not a penny less.

a lot of tos always enter themselves in their own **** and i dont really care as long as someone pays for it...like from the venue fee or something...but just adding people in randomly thats dumb

the champ has to beat everybody so if he wins he should get the money for beating 32 not 31 people...he worked the hardest and played the best so he should get a fair result

ive never entered one of my own tournaments mostly because i'm losing money anways lolz but also cuz of principle

if i see a to in their own tournament i'm just gonna give em the benefit of the doubt and not ask questions lol

Yea, if someone is fighting their friend than seeding wasnt done right.

And also I TO sometimes and always pay to get in because if I end up taking somone out in round 3, someone who could have otherwised placed in the money I kind screwed them didnt I? I didnt lose anything from it but he did.

well you dont really have to pay for the venue fee since you already used your money to rent the venue xD

but yeah, everyone who is playing should pay, even if its the TO (always did it for my tournaments and will do if i host another)

Personally, I don't think that there is any issue with entering your events for free, provided that:
a). It's made clear in the tournament OP
b). You aren't keeping any of the Venue Fee. IMO, as a host of any given tournament, you should either be keeping the venue fee (any or all), not paying to enter, or neither--one of the three, but not two of the three. Obviously, if you are keeping part of the venue fee, you should just be using that to pay your way in.

I don't pay entrance fee to tournaments I'm running. The venue fee goes to a third party in my case (not me) so that option is out. (So yes, that means like the tournament I ran last weekend with 32 entrants, there was $310 in the pot, not $320).

I'm not about to spend $10-$30 on equipment to run a tournament, then have to fork over another $20 in entrance fees when I'm not even going to play well.

I have never entered one of my tournaments for free (unless someone is leaving, doesn't want a refund, and offers me their spot) and always pay the venue fee at the events I run.

if its a small tourney like 32 and lower i pay to enter my events, if its larger i typically dont. reason being is so the pot isnt missing my money, with less players missing someones entrance is a lot. oh and if i make money and i didnt pay to enter i definitely pay back my entrance fee.

It's a conscious sort of thing. Some TOs don't pay to enter and that's fine. Some TOs take a cut from the pot and that's fine. Whether or not a TO does one or both of these is dependent on the situation and the person, so it's not really possible to say whether or not a TO "should". Technically, they "shouldn't", but it's perfectly fine for them to, as long as he is running the event. Just don't be surprised if some of the entrants aren't happy with it.

So yeah, no problem with not paying to enter.

I myself have invested in four surge strips and four extension cords just for my tournament. : ]

I wouldn't enter myself in tournament without paying first.

This is probably the only thing I'll disagree on with AZ. I definitely make sure if I enter my cut in the pool is accounted for. I usually do it with the venue fee.

TO doesn't pay venue, but of you're gonna play, pay pot or don't enter.

The TO would technically owe a portion of $10 to top three, but I could see it being reasonable for them to just recognize that the TO facilitated the event that allowed them to make the money in the first place.

Venue fee, sure, that's fine. no player is seeing that money, and it's most likely gonna be used to pay for venue.

Entry fee... that's where it gets kinda sketchy.

If the TO is getting a cut of the venue fee, they should put some of that towards the pot

if the TO feels like they shouldn't have to pay for the tournament entry fee, that's their choice to make, and as long as no one protests them entering for free, there should be no problem at all, and the people winning money will rarely miss 5-2 dollars more in a large tourney.

However, in a small tournament, it becomes more obvious, and that makes up a much larger part of the pot, so it becomes much more questionable.
