But man, that was fast. Further proof that they don't even need Nindies to announce news at all.

We definitely know that the KS plans for anime cutscenes will see use in here. And since it's open-world again, WF definitely aren't relying on Inti Creates anymore. Also, neeeeeewwwt form!

Kinda disappointed the planned metallic moon subplot seemingly won't be used this time though.

They are now implementing other half genies since the series was only showing Shantae. Now, looks like we got more lore coming up soon with cutscenes from Trigger.

According to the reply chain, only Shantae is playable in the main game, and there's currently no disclosed details on whether the others will become so through DLC or otherwise. Sorry Dyllybirdy , it looks like you'll have to wait still.

Sod the newt, this is a glass tunnel in an underwater environment, which confirms Shantae will get Power Bombs .

At any rate, it doesn't seem like Risky will be the main villain of this game (if "sinister secrets of the island" is anything to go by), even though she'll probably try to turn things to her advantage. Actually, what prompted the whole gang to visit this island in the first place?

More likely the fusion magic involves the other half-genies and their own abilities, which will probably not be transformation related because it's implied every (half)-genie has a unique form of magic they specialize in.

What a twist it would be if this ability turns out to work similarly to Ajna's in Indivisible, huh?

Second, more animation is amazing news! That and confirmation that this game has an interconnected world makes me feel this could be the best Shantae yet. Basically the quality of Pirates Curse but the added benefit of having Shantae's traditional ability kit rather than the pirate weapons.

And as has been said before, it does seem likely that Rotty, Sky and Risky will be 3 of the 7 Maidens. I can't wait to learn more and see some of this game in action. Also this better get a day one physical release. I don't want to buy twice and would love this alongside my other Shantae Switch games.

Also, in case anyone hasn't realised it yet, it really does seem like the action won't be set anywhere near Scuttle Town or its whereabouts, this time around. A change of pace that's not unwelcome. What I wonder about the most are the apparent sinister secrets. Maybe anyone who enters the island can't leave it due to a curse? But still, who's going to defend Scuttle Town while everyone else is gone??

Sorry, I must have subconsciously had flash backs to A Link to the Past while writing that.

So, we know she has fusion transformations now. I'm wondering if the Newt is a Fusion of her Monkey and Mermaid forms. If that's how this is working, things could get really interesting depending on which forms return to get fused. Maybe the Crab and Spider will give her a Scorpion form? Maybe the Harpy and Elephant will get her sued by Disney?

At any rate, this seems to be a way to keep the transformation mechanics but making them less cumbersome to use by making them less of one-trick ponies.
If this goes far enough, a full transformation based Smash moveset could become plausible, although I still don't think it's the best idea.

Thought this was worth noting. In the comments on Twitter one fan asked about the cutscenes and Wayforward confirmed that only the intro is animated by Trigger. I wonder if that means they animated the cutscenes in house.

Isn't this equally true for Sky and Bolo, though? The Friends To The End gang all went from just being literal key NPCs that unlock the next dungeon (or in Mimic's case, kick off the plot) to major supporting characters.

Yeah, but I'm just saying, that Rotty at first seemed the most removed from the series setting compared to the others. These days she is considered integral to it.

Not that Risky didn't have changes herself, going from a Captain Syrup analogue (albeit with an actual ability to do CQC) to the most important lead character after Shantae herself.
