Man this thread has kept on going! So many pages since I last checked. Man this lack of news is getting difficult. Hopefully there's some soon 'cause geeeeez! The waiting! THE WAITING! AAAAAAAA.

The wait is slowly causing us to go insane. Im pretty sure that we are all hoping for something soon. There's still so much we have yet to learn, and yet its nearing less than a month until release.

I'm not worried. I mean, I'm more concerned about all of your sanities than any info (my own sanity went off a long time ago anyway..).
It can be good to express how you feel tho.
But this is the end game. We dont have that long to wait, both for a direct (pretty sure), and the game itself.
Im not going to say anything more tonight, but really, it's not a bad time, things'll come soon enough

“snork” ok, ok. I’m sorry I keep ending up going back around to the whole ship thing, I promise it’ll be the last time for a little while, but considering how unlucky she is with men so far, I think Sky ending up with Shantae is at least a better alternative than well...
I mean I think it’d be cute to see Wrench in a tuxedo, but not in this context.
I know we’re all on edge, but at least we’re not this crazy right?
Shovel Knight has closer ties to Nintendo.
By publishing the title and collaborating on the merchandise Nintendo is automatically and literally invested in the game. Objectively, that is a closer working relationship, they are an active investor and direct purveyor, not simply a licensor, curator and recipient of third-party profit.
Plus it doesn't matter if Yacht Club commissioned the amiibo, that doesn't negate the fact that Nintendo is a party to it. Doesn't matter who the impetus came from here if both parties ended up in collaboration.
And also, it not being exclusive doesn't diminish its ties with Nintendo, it just means it has other ties extending elsewhere. Business ties are not a finite commodity.
On the other hand the closeness of Shantae's ties seem chalked up to...
Shantae is in promotional material.
If you mean to insinuate Shovel Knight doesn't also appear in promotional material I take it you've never watched a Nindie presentation. Right now the character at the top of Nintendo's "Nindie" section is the Hollow Knight protagonist. Yet that doesn't make him closely tied to Nintendo either. Even if he got another three games.
Go to the "featured" section of the eShop right now and I bet you'll find some stuff with pretty tenuous ties to Nintendo past just being on the platform. The level at which Shantae is promoted is not abnormal enough to worthy of distinction.
Oh and as far as appearing more and longer, sure. But longer relationship doesn't inherently mean a closer one.

Shantae is more popular in Japan
Here's the thing. No matter who is more "popular", no matter who "sold better", Japanese reception to both Shovel Knight and Shantae is, at best, a wash. Both series have sold horribly there. Yeah one has to perform better than the other, but either way, Japanese reception remains an impediment to both, because neither is actually good. To have a touchstone of the rhetoric be that one series didn't perform as abysmally as the other is not a strong point.
So, to that end, while she might have more art (shocking as it might be that a skimpy genie would get more fanart than armor and a shovel) and she might have a couple figurines, nevertheless... get ready for it, Shovel Knight sold better.
As per every Media Create listing (the company Nintendo cites during conferences/presentations) only one Shantae release had its exact first-week units listed, which was 3.3k. The top 20 games of that week are listed with sales figures every week, with number twenty bottoming out around 3-2.5k. Then #s 21-50 are listed without specific units. Two other Shantae releases made this section, I gave them a generous 2.5k each. The remaining Shantae titles (each listing is per console, btw) didn't chart in the top 50, I gave those a liberal 1.5k. Together that's around 17k. Given how unpopular PC releases are in Japan, let's give the entire series' PC release another generous 3k. And let's account for post-first-week sales, none of which charted, at a cumulative, and exceedingly generous 10k, given the precipice after first-weeks sales. That brings us to 30k.
Now let's look at Shovel Knight. We don't have to do the same thing with his releases, as Yacht Club confirmed months back that the title hit two million globally. He's the breakdown by country.
Unfortunately the exact breakdown cuts off right before Japan. However, even though it looks to be about 3% of total sales, let's call it a very very conservative 2%. With the total of 2 mil, 2% would bring it to 40k (even though in likelihood it looks closer to 50, maybe 60k). That's a 10k disparity between the two, and that's being very generous for Shantae and very conservative for Shovel Knight.
Keep in mind that's also one game versus three (the first Shantae didn't release there).

If you still disagree with me, which I'm sure many of you will, fair enough. But I'm not going to prolong my involvement here any more, I've said pretty much all I have to say. If Shantae is in the game, that'd be cool, and I'd be psyched. I think she meshes well with the cast and would bring a neat, novel moveset and fresh supporting content. However, I don't foresee it as a likelihood, which a great deal of you seem to. It is the Shantae thread, after all, so, you know, duh. I'd still very much exercise caution in getting expectations up, but good luck regardless~
Also if any of you want to put your money where your mouth is, I'm open to avatar bets. PM me if interested.

A new leak came up, and so far nobody has been able to truly debunk it. It's blurry, but thats because its screenshots that come from a snapshat story.
I have no idea if its real, but it doesn't seem to have Shantae Please prove me wrong. We'll likely have to sit on it for awhile, as while it hasn't be debunked, it hasn't been confirmed yet.
Im off to bed. Please try to remain calm and not jump to conclusions.

I call it fake ( yes I want it to be fake too ^^ )

So it seems this leaker is choosing Spring Man Mach Rider, Chorus Kids (which is a dumb Rhythm Heaven rep imo), Ken, Shadow, Isaac, and Banjo & Kazooie. I don't see Geno or KOS-MOS in there at all.
EDIT: Apparently that's Mach Rider and not Spring Man. I guess that goes to show just how unrecognizable the character is if I mistook him for Spring Man.
DOUBLE EDIT: That's way too many characters for the base game with the time we have left and I doubt that's who they've chosen for DLC as well since there are plenty of others that would make a great addition as DLC.

Not gonna lie, this leak legitimately scares me. Apparently the guy who leaked this accidentally left his personal info in frame and 4chan found out he actually works for a printing company that works with Bandai Namco. Also he's apparently skilled in graphic design so it's possible he faked it but nobody can debunk the photos yet. I just........**** man this is literally the only thing to ever shake my faith and make me think "damn I guess she's just an assist trophy after all" but the ONE thing that still doesn't add up to me is Shantae's absence from any other crossover fighter. That is literally the last strand of hope I'm holding on to and I'm terrified that the actual reason for it might be completely unrelated to Smash. **** it, I'm betting on the pics being fake, if the next direct has ****in Mach Rider or Chorus Kids in it then I give up because those are the only unsafe guesses in this picture.

I really don't buy that "leak" I can't say where, but both the image of Banjo and Chorus Kids seem familiar. Plus all those characters being added and Dixie not being one of them seems incredibly unlikely. I mean if there were two or three chargers left and Dixie wasn't there, it would be disappointing, but getting 6+ new characters and not including the last of Nintendo's all-stars who still isn't in Smash seems ridiculous.
Also B&K seem incredibly unlikely for the base roster as I doubt Nintendo would want one of their console competitors getting a petition of this year's biggest game's sales. If they get in, which I think is likely. It will be as DLC where Microsoft can have a person of every individual purchase of that dlc instead.
It could be real, sure, but I really don't think so. Plus there is no one interacting with Daisy and her pose and focus if her eyes just screams that there is someone she is either bumping or attacking.
Anyone who says that Shantae has less chance than any other video game character is just one of two things.
1. Hater
2. Other fans who is just lashing out against other fanbase because of either being threaten by Shantae or knowing deep in their hearts that she is more likely the indie rep than any other indie.

Interesting roster, I honestly wouldn't mind KOS-MOS, and if it confirms Mach Rider is female thats cool. No Shantae is sad but if this is true could mean DLC
The thing that hurts this though is the blurriness, and the fact that as far as I can tell, no characters have moved. Every time a character is added the others move around to fit them better. its VERy hard to tell due to the blurriness but it doesn't seem like this happened, unless someone could confirm

I can't help but notice Daisy still seems to be interacting with nothing and there seems to be space deliberately left next to her butt lol
But yeah, this leak seems pretty hard to debunk. It was pieced together by the guy's Snapchat video and had a few other miscellaneous leaks for Christmas season merch, like the new Grinch. His text on the video was also "**** Nintendo" in French. If this is real, this dude is so getting the **** sued out if him by Ninty.
Hard to take this at face value without clear images. I'm going to have to pass this off as fake until that happens or something more concrete supports this. Even if this is someone who could get a hold of a real leak he could just be screwing with us. And shadow looks a little strange...
I mean, when it comes to western shyness it's true that in the past not even Nintendo's franchises were safe from it (Metroid, and to a lesser extent Donkey Kong Country). But Ultimate seems determined to make up for that now.
Right now practically all of Gamefaqs and Smash Reddit believe the leak and are calling it "ESRB 2.0" I'm gonna remain skeptical because Mach Rider and Chorus Kids seem unlikely to me, also this guy being a graphic designer pretty much shows that he's capable of making a believable fake and the fact that he leaked this through a snapchat story makes it seem like he purposely didn't want anyone to have a clear view of the banner so it couldn't be debunked easily. Regardless Nintendo needs to hurry the hell up with the next direct, fake leak or not the game is going gold VERY soon and Sakurai's plan of revealing every newcomer himself might end up going to waste.
I hope to god that leak is real cause I really want Isaac and Geno along with Banjo to join the fight at long last, but I will admit that it might cause Shantae getting the assist trophy treatment.... I don't see that happening, as she could be future DLC. Though this seems too good to be true cause their are 5 uniques and 2 echoes so that would outdo the august direct completely! Only time will tell, but this sparked up the smash community alright.
I don't know why people are believing this leak, especially when it conflicts with both Vergaben and box theory, two things which people hold as gospel.
And why is it that every leaker is unable to take a clear photograph? It's almost as if they deliberately make it blurry so it's more believable.
I also don't think KOS-MOS has a chance, so I'm calling fake on this one.
