I still hope she doesn't, as that would really turn a lot of people off to the series. In case you haven't noticed, it's hard as-is to get people to try the games.

These kinds of things are rarely taken lightly by writers from what I can see. Whether the intention is for comedy or drama, alternate sexual orientations are almost always very deliberate and a core part of a character, for better or worse. So that's why if no attention is brought to sexuality either way, it's safer to assume it's normal.

Honestly, her calling Shantae "snack cakes" seems like a reference to the fact that Shantae "owes her a brain" rather than a tease. In fact, Shantae explicitly tells her in Half-Genie Hero that she doesn't want to be called that. I feel like that confirms that Shantae isn't interested in a relationship.

Honestly, her calling Shantae "snack cakes" seems like a reference to the fact that Shantae "owes her a brain" rather than a tease. In fact, Shantae explicitly tells her in Half-Genie Hero that she doesn't want to be called that. I feel like that confirms that Shantae isn't interested in a relationship.

Although I feel Shantae is written asexually to allow the player to assume whatever they prefer, I don;t think the "snack cakes" thing means she isn't into women, just that she doesn't like that particular name. And considering her friend could actually want to eat her brains, the nick name might be a little unsettling to her which could be why she doesn't like it.

That said the only kind of sexuality we've seen Shantae express was the teasing she gave Baracuda Joe, and as that was a joke I wouldn't read into it as evidence for either side.

My opinion on sexuality for Shantae: I think she's currently asexual. She apparently tried to ask Bolo out, but he turned her down. Every other male figure she's run into has been...questionable, to say the least. Rottytops does flirt with her, but I think it's part of her odd way of expressing how much she cares for Shantae as a friend. I could see both of them as straight, bi, or lesbians. Sky is straight, though her parents seem to be doing everything in their power to make sure she stays single.

Heh, I actually got a little tale for you guys on how I first got into Shantae.

I'll neglect the Risky Boots is Captain Syrup portion, because that was around 2011 or something?

But yeah, I got a 3DS for Christmas 2013. I also got $40 in gift cards to buy whatever I wanted.

So once I connected my 3DS online and got the proper updates for it, I looked up what I wanted to get on there, then Shantae shows herself to me via the Virtual Console. And that was immortal time right there. I got to download it immediately, and that's when I fell in love with it. Whenever I was traveling and I had my 3DS with me, I played Shantae, among other games I got.

And that's how it all started.

As for the whole kerfuffle you guys seemed to get yourself into while I was away, here's my take on it. While I openly support Shantae and I hope she does get into the fray as a fighter, I'm making sure to not get really absorbed into the idea. Because as a fan of Smash Bros, there are many characters that do deserve getting in. The likes of Banjo, Crash, even more violent guys like Master Chief and Doomguy/Doom Slayer all deserve their spot in Smash Bros for what they've represented over gaming history. And, to be honest, I bet many of you guys who are all like "SHANTAE CAN'T BE ANYTHING LESS THAN A FIGHTER" based on circumstantial evidence and broke down at the first sight of challenge, whether real or otherwise, has the logistical loops of an immature teenager with the sight span of the same wavelength. There are more important things to do in life than to obsess over one fictional character and their chance to get into an electronic game roster and I suggest you find something to mentally challenge you before you come in here. Because failing to do so will not only make every one of us look bad, you're just going to be setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

When did Shantae try to ask Bolo out? I feel I must have missed that. Tho I haven't played all the extra modes in HGH so maybe it was reveled in there?

Anyway, the only characters we can be sure of are Sky and Bolo, and that's not even complete. We know they are both attracted to the opposite gender, but there is nothing there to say they aren't bi (nothing to say they are either) Wayforward is just keeping things open because if it doesn't effect the story there is no point to put it in there. And that way fans can have whatever they like for their head canon.

Shantae's titles all have a sizeable helping of RPG elements anyway, and a rhythm game could take full advantage of Shantae's dancing skills.

If it doesn't need to star Shantae, then just a different action title where you only play Bolo/Sky/Rottytops, a la Friends to the End.

Honestly, while I don't think there's whole lot of potential in a full-on crossover between the Kid Icarus and Shantae universes (that would go to Mario, or more specifically Mario & Luigi), there is definitely a lot of fun to be had between Shantae, Pit & Palutena. The rest of the gods are comparable to Barons.

Not to get too political, but i don't think it's bad for developers to write their characters in any particular way. Some times you have a specific story to tell and that story may need details of a characters personal life, or may need ambiguity. When it comes to overwatch, the gameplay has absolutely zero to do with a characters personality, backstory or even the story of the world they exist in at large, So Tracer being a Lesbian is just as superfluous as Rienhart having a daughter. But the story doesn't enter into the game at all so if you want to ignore it you aren't missing anything.

I can't tell you what to think, nor would I try, but I think game developers should be free to pursue the stories they want to tell and let the market tell them if they are the stories people want to hear.

I always thought a puzzle game would be a great spin off for Sky. You know matching like colored eggs so they hatch. Maybe avoiding rotten eggs or eggs of animals that might eat the bird hatchlings.
