A sad, sad place... may I have hugs? <3
Well, I just mean that as soon as I saw her, I knew people were gonna latch onto her. I'm not trying to be derogatory towards the character. I just think it's crazy that people are crazy for a character that we know nothing about other than her appearance. And unlike Shantae, her game isn't out for us to judge her personality.
Still be careful...

Somebody could use that line against us.

To be fair, Fates was yet to be relased worldwide when Corrin was added in 4.
And Corrin had the worst reception of any newcomer. Adding characters from games that aren't even out, or are about to come out should not become the standard, especially for a franchise as overrepped as FE.

Which I still find sad, I like her more than Robin.

I would only let that slide for indie game characters, and even then they should be fun or sufficiently interesting enough.

I dont see how any of that matters as long as the character is fun to play as which corrin is.

I much prefer fun picks over fan picks. In the case of corrin the fans were wrong.

It disgusts me that they opposed such a cool character just because it inflamed their OCD concerning the distribution of characters in a franchise. It was just a numbers game to them.

Ok fine, what if she’s a DLC character after her game’s release? Three Houses is set to release Q2 2019.

I don't venture over to general anymore, since they seem to hate fun and want to be realists and logicians for some reason. I take it they had a big waifu war over XC2?

But Sakurai also said there was too much FE in the roster. The point I'm making is that there are other fun characters from franchises that have yet to get any fighters (Chibi Robo, Golden Sun, ARMS, ect) and the idea of them continuing to get pushed to the wayside so we can get a promotional character no one wanted from a franchise that already had 5 fighters at the time is super duper lame.

A scrolling "Burning Scuttle Town" would be the ideal catch-all for a Shantae stage, given it appears in both the oldest AND newest games with almost the exact same hazards between them. And for a bit of Pirate's Curse, have Ammo Baron attack instead for an alternate version of the stage.

Since everyone's posting their wants, I'll post mine, with thoughts for each:

1. Shantae: Seems obvious here, but it shocks me how much more I grew to appreciate this character and this series just from popping into this thread one day. I bought some of the Half-Genie Hero DLC some time after, which gave me a whole new view of it.

2. Monster Hunter/Felyne: The last of Capcom's "big three" franchises to be fully represented. Though having a stage or item that could bring multiple monsters to the fray would be nice too.

3. Reiji Arisu: I'm not gonna say much about him, since I'll wager I'm the only person here to know who he is. Suffice it to say he'd be an awesome left-field Namco pick.

4. Rex & Pyra/Mythra: The best choice for a new Xenoblade rep, they have potential to be a very interesting hybrid of several existing characters to make something new.

5. Dr. Coyle: We want females, we want villains, Coyle's a female villain from a fresh new franchise and a great personality. Yeah, Spring Man is much more likely as an ARMS rep (it baffles me why people even consider Ribbon Girl to be a suitable echo for him), but I can dream.

6. Medusa: The OG Kid Icarus villain that really didn't get the screentime she deserved in the revival... though it also makes good use of that time to develop her. She's a lot like Risky Boots in some ways. Just knowing she isn't forgotten would help ensure that potential isn't wasted.
Wow. I'm surprised someone else wants Dr. Coyle! While I wouldn't put her in over Spring Man I'd definitely put her in addition to him. 1: Female Villain and 2: Leivtation Mechanics along with ARMS mechanics.

Here’s what I found that might increase her chances
Take it with a grain of salt CRINGE
The Exxegutor theory? That's a coincidence. Wario would've been the- oh. And then you take into account the fact that the other 3 are in between Mega Man and Peach. While this one in particular could be a coincidence, there are too many potential coincidences for them to all be coincidences.

Poor shantae.....due to all of this hate from gamefaqs Twitter reddit iFunny and 4chan after the 8.8.18 direct it hasn’t been hurting the fanbase but it has been hurting her:crying:

Someone give this young lady a hug:(
[WARNING: RANT] *hugs her* She doesn't deserve this. This hate is unwarranted. Seriously, it makes Pink Gold Peach look like a fan-favorite. It's ridiculous that this thread is literally the only safe place to be a #ShantaeforSmash fan. And it's not just that they hate the Shantae character. They hate us as people for liking a specific character; and it's hypocritical, considering how a good chunk of those guys probably main, like, wanted or at the very least are OK with Bayonetta. I hate that (I believe) we're sitting here being the vocal(?) minority. Her getting in is pretty much the only thing that can stop all this hate and I'm really scared that said hate could put her out of the running for future Smash games (or DLC, if she somehow doesn't get into the base game and survives the last AT massacre). I wouldn't be surprised if this art was made by a hater and not a fan.

BTW, I've seen the name come up for the new waifu-bait character in the Fire Emblem Three Houses trailer for Smash a couple of times. I think that's crazy talk. It's almost as crazy as expecting Octolings or an ARMS character since they're so brand new. Fire Emblem Three Houses isn't even out yet.
You mean Edelgard? She looks more like she'd end up being a Xander/Ryoma of the game rather than a Tharja/Camilla or a Robin/Corrin, whereas Byleth is probably the true protagonist.

Not to mention what happened recently on the general with XBC2...
Seriously? Now Rex and Pyra are starting to get hated?! If people start hating Spring Man and Octoling too...

Hey, I was wondering...

How is everyone?
I'm doing alright.

Characters and music are basically the only good way to represent Fire Emblem. It has very few memorable locations.

I'd never complain about what we get, only what we don't. Because every. character. has. FANS!!!! And if their inclusion makes even one person happy, for any reason, then they deserve their spot.

In a game like this where the sky is only limited by medium, there is very little to be gained by arguing against a character.

Damn, I didn't think the Shantae hate was this bad that they would make fan art of it. Just don't give them reasons to hate her
Do it after she's confirmed as playable :D

Alright guys so I thought up a little something for you, in your ol' 'tin-foil' realm. It's a theorized story, purely to indulge.
I'm writing this just for entertainment, and it's meant to be taken in amusement. (besides I know that some of you love this **** :p)
Let's call it 'timeline 1C' for now.

Crazy theory #1: Shantae was meant to be announced for smash ultimate since the last smash direct.

1st - The smash direct occurs, and Nintendo leaves 2 hints about the next smash character; one is the background(chairs, pillows, etc), and the other is the weird exeggutor dynamic (character connections with shantae nab and the interview).

2nd - The Nindies direct was a possible option to reveal her (plan A), but for some reason they decide to cancel it (maybe they weren't fully prepared) and thus the missing blog numbers that week. Thus plan B gets put in action, for her to be revealed at the nintendo direct.

mid directs - They decide hey let's put the exeggutor blog post right before the nintendo direct to see if they actually catch on the old weird hint from before.

3rd - The Nintendo direct is delayed because of the earthquake. The special price drop for Shantae in the switch still goes through even though it was meant for after her reveal.

aftermath - They see how shaken and frustrated smash fans are and decide it's not a good time to reveal her in case she'd receive too much backlash. Isabelle can take it cuz she's already too loveable. Shantae's reveal gets postponed, thus going to plan C, dun dun dun!

4th - The Nintendo direct airs later, and like they thought, people are upset from their frustrated impatience even with a reveal. There's even lashing out on Shantae even though she wasn't in. And they go oof, thank god we made the right choice.

And so it continues on to the next phase.. *insert mysterious sound effect*

So there you have it. Hope you enjoyed story time. :)

Sakurai only said that before his team convinced him that they could make him a fun fighter and not obsess about the numbers. And if you want to attack a character included for promotional reasons I suggest Isabelle who was obviously shoehorned in to advertise the upcoming Animal Crossing game atleast Corrin as a distinctive moveset.

I'm fine. Thinking about getting Mega Man 11 and hoping they will add a game mode where you get to play as Roll. That or Roll as a Mega Man echo in Smash would be awesome. She doesn't get enough of a chance to shine.

Basically, it was a big tissy fit over the game having fanservice.

Isabelle is pretty much the franchise mascot at this point though, being the new lead NPC in every piece of AC media since her inclusion in ANCL. She was in Mario Kart and will likely retain her role as the most important character in the game besides the player in AC19 as well. Her popularity is genuine and also massive unlike Corrin who is considered one of the worst lords in the FE franchise due to horrendous writing.

I don't see how thinking we should stop getting promotional FE fighters when there are miles of more interesting characters from franchises with no representation can be considered a controversial thought. I guarantee "small robot who fights with various household appliances" or "girl who pilots a mech with a drill on it's head that shifts gears" or "boxing man with springs for arms" would make for a much more interesting and fun fighter than "lady with a counter, axe edition".
Her game isn't even out, you cannot convince me a character's popularity is genuine when we know literally nothing about her past her design and name.

Honestly I'm surprised we haven't gotten an Echo that uses the custom moves from Smash 4. I mean technically we don't know if custom moves are still a thing yet, but if they're not, they seem like good assets to bring over to flesh out a few Echo Fighters. Especially your suggestion for Roll since Mega Man is one of the few characters that had really varied moves for his custom specials. They could give her Beat, the Hyper Bomb, Ice Slasher, etc.

Oh hey he used my art for that
Anyway this is a stretch on a stretch on a stretch but this tweet is interesting
The ballot had ended recently, I THINK this is about the Shantae figures done by that one JP company, but I'd need to check the dates for that.
I'm 100% positive this was for the JP localization of Pirate's Curse.

Agreed with all these points. You don't see people rally up against a certain other recent character for having their next entry be conveniently recent enough to promote. :ultinkling:

That said, if GF wasn't forced to care about Pokémon 24/7, we would have gotten Jill by now. To think she has as much rock-bottom chances as Barbara to get in...

Yeah, I agree, nobody should ever touch Isabelle.

Even though, I know you care a lot more about her. ;)
I was mostly thinking about all those cruel enough to make Shantae hair whip a puppy for gems when gems aren't that hard to come by.

Exactly, I'm 400% on the Octoling support train, people love their Octokids and Splatoon has a TON of weapons that have yet to be used by the default Inklings, something like the Brella or the Dualies would bring something new to Smash and be a lot of fun to play, on top of the fact that Splatoon has already outsold the entire FE franchise in 3 years despite FE being nearly 30 years old should tell you that a second Splatoon newcomer that's already proven their popularity is genuine would be accepted and adored by the Smash fanbase way more than the 8th Fire Emblem character who only got in to promote Three Houses.

Drill Dozer was so good, I'll never forgive GF for leaving it at the wayside.

What does anything you said in your first paragraph have to do with smash?

I'll take "lady with a counter, axe edition" and "Magic Half Dragon with a chainsaw sword" over "Fatass Aligator with a counter" "Space Charizard", "The literal B**** from animal crossing" and "Chainwhip boy" see? I can do it too.

Custom moves are clearly not a thing. They've mentioned that Palutena has new moves and they said something similar about the Miis.

I personally like all the FE characters. I was really happy we got Chrom and I'm among the people who would gladly accept even more FE. But Lord (pun intended) does that last bit frustrate me. This is pretty much the reason why so many people don't like the FE characters (well aside from the number of them), and it's a shame because they don't have to and really shouldn't all be variations of the same thing.

Roy, Lucina, and now Chrom all being based on Marth is understandable due to how they were developed, but I can also understand why people are tired of seeing more characters that play like Marth.

Ike and Robin are fine, as is Corrin aside from the timing of their inclusion being both perfect and horrible at the same time. And though I'll defend the FE characters, I'm also tired of the fact that all of them, save for Robin, have Counters for Down Specials, and almost all of them have chargeable Neutral Specials that are functionally the same. (Robin and Corrin of course have projectiles and the change to Ike's in Ultimate is great for this reason both in terms of buffing him and adding more variety to the FE characters.)
