...although the challenge is technically impossible since you have to unlock the DLC fighters by freeing 10 characters. But uh, just go back to the start and replay all the fights you had to do to get to them I guess.

The appeal of a crossover can trump almost any game's quality for some people. Take Ehrgeiz, which would have been totally (even more) forgotten if it didn't have FF7 characters as guest fighters.

...Ok actually, I’m so glad to see Shantae get this recognition! I forgot just how many great indies came out this year, from my personal GOTY Hades to classic revivals like Streets of Rage, console crossers like Ori, the long time teased Superliminal, and of course, Shantae!

Jokes aside, I do genuinely think Nintendo is continuing to put a lot of emphasis on the Switch aa great place for indie games, both to consumers AND developers with all these showcases and success stories. I just hope more promotion through Smash is in the cards.

It would certainly point to Wayforward not doing so beforehand a conscious decision on their part rather than Nintendo's. Some of the titles on the list kind of surprise that they're considered as indies, namely Streets Of Rage 4 and Sakuna.

Well it originally was a DSiWare game after all.
And those games had a ridiculously low space cap.
So it's all they could do at the time.

Originally, Risky's Revenge was considered to be an episodic game.
Because that's the only way a full length game could've worked, as DSiWare.

Yep, Monster Hunter is gonna get some spotlight, it makes bank. I’d expect either the same “reveals dropped at random” style of announcements for 3D World and the like; or if we finally return to classic directs, February to cover all the spring games and a tease at a Smash character to be shown off in Mid March and then released end of March with the amiibo wave.

The first Shantae is quite good for a GBC title, though there are some difficulty spikes here and there
