So negotiations about Minecraft being in Smash started around the time of the Smash Ballot. This is a HUGE plus for Shantae as she was one of the most popular requests in the Smash Ballot along with K. Rool, Banjo & Kazooie, and Shovel Knight.
Its stunning and hilarious that this news is making Shantae MORE supported and hopeful on gamefaqs and /v/
I reaaaallly want her to be revealed.

Seeing how much work and effort Sakurai has shown to put into the likes of Min Min and Steve, I feel like Shantae would fit in with being mechanically quite different from other fighters with her various transformations. Probably a pain to program, but we have proof that Sakurai can pull it off, maybe he even likes the challenge haha!

For sure, and Sakurai himself thought that pulling Steve's stuff off in general would be impossible. Compared to that, Shantae would be simpler by virtue of not needing to alter programming in every stage.

Yeah, I think the "pain to program" excuse went out the window when he talked about having to go over all the stages and tweaking them to make sure blocks could be placed on them. After that a character with some transformations (which we have already had versions of with Pokemon Trainer, Samus and Zelda) should be a relative breeze lol

Sakurai keeps crushing arguments of detractors and fan rules, I see. :3
Good to know that he keeps surpassing expectations.

From steve, how you look (kept the blocky appearance and can blink.), how you feel, and it doesn't matter how people think. If Sakurai and the company does agree with a deal regarding how long it will take, it's always possible for that character to join later.

You know, I don't mind the Minecraft character one bit.
Minecraft is a worthy series of representation.

And yet, whenever new characters get revealed, I always get this feeling of dread.
I really don't know why though. There is no explanation or reason whatsoever.
It makes no sense. And yet it still happens.
And I can't even begin with figure out why. X_X

Now you know how the Minecraft fans who genuinely wanted Steve felt with each reveal prior.
Now imagine that hype they have being you when it's Shantae's turn. We're still in this.

I am glad that Sakurai and his team are doing well. Though in all honesty, I should have seen this coming in hindsight with the three minute info stuff on the Nintendo Twitter Post lol
I guess I was just so busy thinking about Crash Bandicoot's latest game and the possibility of a 35th Anniversary inclusion of Geno I completely forgot to factor in Minecraft Live being only a short two days away from the announcement date

Like I said though, I don't know what exactly causes that burst of anxiety.
I know it happens with a Smash Reveal.
And yet I have no explanation why.

Speaking of dread, I kind of want Saturday right now, so that I can have peace of mind over whoever's getting the Mii costume treatment.
Oh right I forgot about the Mii Costumes. Yeah that is going to be something to worry about. So long as Shantae isn't a mii costume we would still live to fight for another day.

Mii costumes will probably be mostly Minecraft related. The big extra one I could see showing up would be Master Chief as a Mii Gunner.

One of our greatest strengths is that Shantae’s moveset really doesn’t translate well into any of the Mii Fighter styles, even stripping her to her basic moves.

I'm expecting to see a Joanna Dark Mii costume tomorrow. Reason is because it's one of the Mii costumes Fatman has heard from his sources that is coming. It would be the perfect time to show this costume since Steve is a Microsoft rep.

Personally I don't believe anyone other than Verge at this point, and I doubt with how much they've been cracking down on the information flow that he'll come out with any hot leaks in the future. All that we have to go off of with the final 4 is that the Smash team was in talks with Koei Tecmo last year. No confirmation that those talks ended with a Smash partnership. If they did, that means Ryu Hayabusa, Ryza, or maybe a character from Age of Calamity will show up as a part of the final 4. That would leave 3 spots left.

The only person I really take their words as gospel is Shinobi as he teased Ridley and Banjo week or so before both of them were announced. When that man speaks, I take it as fact.

I wasn't able to post this yesterday because of real life issues, but while Steve himself doesn't worry me what concerns me is his place in the mural.

SmashmuralSteve.jpg

Some of us had long speculated that if Shantae were to be added, she'd be doing a hip or "butt-bump" with Daisy as it looks like she's dancing with someone. But Steve's new placement kinda ruins the spacing for that. I know they've moved things around in the past, but Link's leg looks like it so perfectly fits that negative space that I can't see how they could make space in there anymore. Plus they've never placed so many newcomers so close together before, we've already got Byleth and now Steve occupying that area.

They could always fit Shantae somewhere else in the mural, but for now I think the Butt Bump theory might be done for you guys.

Gah, I wish there was an analysis somewhere of the placement of the newcomers as they've been added, or I might be willing to give it a shot if I could find good full renders of all the versions of the mural.

Really, Shantae could be anywhere on the banner while showing her characteristics without bumping with Daisy.
Also, video with the collection of characters appearing on the banner so far.

It does fit that steve is on the ground with his pickaxe as nobody saw it coming

Smh
Do you seriously think that is going to deconfirm Shantae?

So what if the butt bump isn't true. That doesn't mean Shantae is off the table.
Plus, weren't characters moved around every time a new character was added on the banner?

In about 12 hours, we will get a Mr Sakurai Presents video for an in depth look at Steve & Alex's moveset with Wave 7 Mii costumes and the next Amiibo (which is Banjo and Kazooie). So, let's wait when it appears before calling what's still in or out.

I found the image on twitter, so I'm sorry that don't know who made it.

Good day everyone. I am new here, but I joined the site yesterday. I struggled to introduce myself yesterday, but since the stream is coming up, I think now is the perfect time to explain why I came to this site.

In the months leading up to Fighter 7, I saw all these hints that could have proved that Shantae was coming to the game next. The merchandise, all of the games coming to Switch, the Japanese release of Seven Sirens, and even most of the custom Shantae stages being removed, similar to Banjo before his reveal. In fact, Banjo also got merch before his reveal. While I wasn't disappointed at Steve in Smash, ultimately I ended up getting upset as all my hard work doing speculation was wasted. But, my work is still effective, as I believe that it can still point at Fighter 8, since Banjo had all these hints but was revealed as Fighter 3 instead of Fighter 2.

With the stream coming out in a few hours, I think it is only right to join my fellow Shantae for Smash speculators and do some speculation.

Now, some people are worried that Shantae might end up as a Mii Fighter today, and that when Steve got in, nothing is impossible due to the fact that we thought he would be a Mii. I am here to debunk the possibility of Shantae as a Mii Fighter. I don't believe it will happen. Not now, not ever. Here's why:

1. Masahiro Sakurai is in charge of who gets in as a Mii Costume. I imagine that he wouldn't do Shantae dirty like that. He has already added Sans and Cuphead as Miis, and they are the only Indie Miis we need.
2. Shantae does not translate well into any of the Mii archetypes in the game. As a Brawler, she won't be able to user her signature hair or even her magic. Now, as a Gunner and Swordfighter, she can use Risky's pistol and sword respectively. And even then, they still don't work. Risky's gear does not represent who Shantae actually is, and it would be misleading. Shantae as a Brawler also doesn't represent who she is. The only reason Lip from Panel de Pon is a Swordfighter is because her game is a Tetris style game, and as such, she has little to no moveset. Sans and Cuphead made more sense as Gunners. Sans is because he has the Gaster Blasters and because he has a limited moveset. Now with Cuphead, he has a bigger moveset than Sans, but it was really obvious that he would become a Mii due to the fact that he uses his finger guns. He also has very little Japanese presence, like Sans, although the latter's game has a small Japanese following. Shantae has a much larger following compared to other Western Indies in Japan.

While these are my only two points, I still believe they carry a lot of weight to them. I am confident that Shantae will be spared of the Mii treatment and get the Fighter treatment instead. I am sure Masahiro Sakurai would want to include one Indie Fighter, as the Indie slot still hasn't been filled in. Smash is supposed to be a celebration of gaming, and it wouldn't be one without an Indie Fighter. And I believe that the Indie that truly deserves this spot is Shantae. She has worked so hard to reach the popularity she has right now, and I think Smash is the next best thing for her.
