Sonic deserves the return way more though. Boy do I need to rethink about what I put down...
I think both Sonic and Snake deserve equally to return. Anyone who thinks otherwise is biased and has a double standard regarding the veteran 3rd parties.

If it weren't for Snake, I don't think Sonic would have appeared in Brawl either. Snake opened the way to 3rd party characters in Smash and what caused most people request Sonic. The game was even delayed because of him.

Also, Snake has one of the most unique movesets of the entire Smash Bros. series alongside Olimar and newcomers Villager and Mega Man. It would be unfortunate if we were to lose such a character.

Its always interesting when a character confirmation sparks a character debate (with now Sonic's confirmation leading to debates about Snake, and to a lesser extent, Pac-Man).

Makes me shudder what will happen next week when we get a Pokemon confirmation.

Somehow it would lead into Fire Emblem. But I'm just taking a shot in the dark with that.

Okay, we got Mega Charizard X (which looks awesome, by the way).

What will be Pokémon Trainer's Final Smash then?

In a weird way, I get the feeling that, if it is indeed Mewtwo that gets revealed next Friday, that bodes well for the other remaining popular newcomers. If Sakurai is willing to blow both the most wanted newcomer and the most wanted character, period, within four months of the game's reveal, I'd be shocked if he didn't have more waiting in the wings for the remaining year or more to come.

I wanted to post this up. It's a wall of artwork at my elementary school. Can you spot the two Pokemon with the most artwork?(including mega forms)

We need more old Impa discussion. :troll:

On a side note, I'm surprised that Diddy hasn't shown up on Rate Their Chances yet.

I highly doubt Pokemon Trainer's Triple Finish will be replaced.

Altered in some way? Possibly, but assuming PT stays, he'll most likely keep his Brawl Final Smash. A three in one character needs no more than one Final Smash, if his Pokemon each had their own completely different FS, or even if just one of them had a different FS from the other two, that would be kind of overkill.

Final Smash should stay the same. But I wouldn't mind if the Mega Charizard X was the blue team color swap for Smash.

I'd love for palette swaps of Charizard's Mega forms. Espescially X's Mega form, but I still think that's not very likely At least it's more likely than any of PT's Pokemon getting a new FS.

Well, Wind Waker HD just bombed in Japan (did 30K in its opening week). I think if Iwata is saved its going to be through the strong sales of the 3DS (Pokemon + Zelda during the last quarter of 2013).

In Japan, the only two big titles they have lined up the remaining quarter of 2013 are Wii Party U and Super Mario 3D World. However, in Japan, they at least don't have to worry about the PS4 considering its Japanese release has been delayed until next year.

On the Western side of things, the Wii U is probably going to be dead in Europe after this holiday season.

North America though, things could still at least somewhat be turned around.

I think there is a decent chance we get newcomers tied to Wii Party U and Super Mario 3D World.

I haven't seen him comment for two or three days by now, I don't think he's on atm. Which is only for the better considering who's day it is on RtC.

Is it just because I'm too obsessed or did you make that nod to Ridley purposely? :p

What do you guys think the chances for Professor Layton are? I haven't heard any discussion about him making it in.

As far as Snake is concerned, he got in through Sakurai's criteria for a playable spot. Needs to be able to draw people to the game, add to balance of the roster, has to fit in the style, etc...

If SAKURAI thinks that Snake fits, then he fits. Just because some people don't think so doesn't mean it's fact. If Sakurai thinks he fits, then he fits. Therefore, the argument that he doesn't fit the style is moot. Not to mention, Snake wouldn't fit into anything else as far as Fighting games. I don't even know if there is going to be a PSASBR 2 at all. That game did awful (side note, it had like 5 3rd party characters too, in a roster of like 24. Pretty bad compared to smash)

Snake being announced for Brawl sent shockwaves through gaming communities everywhere. He was the first 3rd party character ever in a Smash Bros. game, one that nobody would expect. It was even possible that he would've been the only one, without even Sonic at all. Snake definitely has the ability to get people playing the game, and pick him to boot.

Series balance? I'd say 4 3rd parties in a game with a roster of 40-50 is fine. Especially when Playstation All-Stars had Raiden, Big Daddy, Dante, Isaac Clarke, and Heihachi in a roster of like 24 counting DLC.

Snake is in my opinion of Legendary gaming status. Solid Snake is not just some character. He is an incredibly iconic character from a hit series that has been around for many years. Really, I think if Hideo Kojima created Super Meat Boy, and he asked Sakurai, Sakurai would've shot him down. Snake is a legend, which is why I believe Sakurai allowed it in the first place. Not to mention, Nintendo trusted him with that decision, and the circumstances aren't all that different now than they were back when Brawl was in development.

Metal Gear Solid had a remake of Snake Eater on the 3DS. While it did not do too well, it is at least an appearance of Snake (or Big Boss) on a Nintendo console, which he already had in the critically acclaimed Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes on the Gamecube. ( this is all in addition to the NES game)

Not to say he has no negatives, but the negatives aren't as major as many think.

He has good chances, but most people prefer Snake as the 4th third party (Assuming Pac-Man, Sonic, and Megaman are confirmed)
Layton would also be cool with his own kind of codecs, so I think he would be a good replacement of Snake, representing Nintendo better.

I'm not sure how good his chances are but I for one would definitely be super excited if he was confirmed to be a playable character. If you have seen my reaction when Toon Link was confirmed to return. Multiply that by 2 when Mewtwo is confirmed to return as well and multiply that by 5 if Professor Layton is confirmed to be playable for the first time. That's how excited I would be. He's practically one of my most wanted newcomers for Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS. :bee:

It would be great if he was revealed as promotion of the European or American release of Azran Legacy or the Phoenix Wright crossover, but that's probably just a pipe dream...

But in terms of his chances. He was requested to both Sakurai and Hino (Professor Layton's creator) during a talkshow and Hino is more than happy to have him in Smash Bros, so.... make of it as you will.....

I've only played a couple of Layton games, but I think as a smash character he would fit right in. There's lots of room for creativity with his moveset, and who doesn't like a guy in a top hat? Although one issue might be that Layton's character is too gentle (or gentlemanly) to be in smash. But that didn't stop Sakurai from putting Lucas in :p

After seeing Villager and Wii Fit Trainer join the battle. I doubt Sakurai really cares too much about how gentle a character is or not. Besides, Layton has done more fighting than either of those two ever did.

I've never cared much for the Professor Layton series, but I'd gladly welcome him in Smash. I've wanted to watch some walkthroughs of his games, but I've never gotten around to it.

I think Phoenix Wright in Smash would be a little redundant, seeing as he was in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3.

Agumon or Leomon.
Ooh, that's a toughie.
But I'd still not want Snake bumped out even for either of them.
I'd rather have no cuts if possible, let alone cuts specifically to have someone else.

EDIT: The Hell?
Charizard has version exclusive Mega Evolutions too?
And this X one is....DRAGON TYPE?!?!
And it looks effing cool...

I'm now conflicted on how it's going to affect Smash.

I think both Sonic and Snake deserve equally to return. Anyone who thinks otherwise is biased and has a double standard regarding the veteran 3rd parties.

People think Sonic is more deserving because of the bitter rivalvry between Sega and Nintendo back in the day and the "Mario vs Sonic" playground talk. Sonic bears more relevance and significance to Nintendo's history than Snake does. That's just the simple truth. No bias from my part. And before you go off and claim I have something against Snake- I don't. It is what it is.

Brawl was not delayed because of Sonic. What nonsense is that?

Mewtwo also had a very unique moveset in Melee. Look what happened there. Lucario isn't even remotely the same as Mewtwo either to be considered his replacement.

Yeah, Sonic was one of the reasons for Brawl's initial delay, given his late addition into the game (negotiations with Sega weren't until early 2007).
