I have a gut feeling that Snake and Sonic are returning. I know several people who got the game solely for those two. Their inclusions boosted the games sales significantly. It only makes sense to include them.

Of course this is assuming that nothing happened between Konami, Sega and Nintendo. I don't think anything did.

Yeah, Snake's not going to be leaving. Like you said, why would he? The only way he'd leave is if Sakurai decided to not bring back Sonic and Snake, which would also effect Sonic. But... why would he do that either? Because they're guests? It's Sakurai's game, if Sega and Konami are still willing to play, and Sonic and Snake will still bring in hype and sales (which they will), and Sakurai thinks positively of their inclusion, why remove them?

Because they are not part of the main cast and are guest, like every other game has done (even outside fighting game).

It still surprises me that some people don't even acknowledge the possibility of these guys getting removed. It's far more probable they'd be removed than not.

It's not people don't acknowledge the possibility, it's just people don't want to acknowledge the possibility. The possibility is there, it's just that it's not a very reasonable one at all to a lot of people.

Seriously, if Mewtwo being removed caused backlash, imagine if Sonic the Hedgehog was removed. Holy mother of lord, there would be no end of that for years.

Why does Sakurai have to adhere to how other developers make their games? To not deviate with the other times guests have appeared in games? The positives of keeping them clearly outweigh the negatives, and it’s not like Smash follows all the archetypes of other games, fighting or otherwise. Literally a guest means “someone who is invited to visit the home of or take part in a function organized by another”, nowhere does that mean they are restricted to one visit.

Smash is incredibly character-driven, moreso than most fighting games, even more than most crossovers and/or mascot fighters. These two “guest characters” gained immense popularity in their inclusion, I’d say the most any “guest” had gained in a fighter (and more than a large portion of the existing roster), and as the reasons for them to return greatly outnumber the reasons against, which amount mostly to how other companies handle their games and a definition, it seems like, logically, the chances are with those two returning.

Plus, not every company and every developer works the same way. Just because the majority of guests don’t return, that by no means means there is a rule against it. As the precedent for third-parties is still relatively open-ended in Smash, what we do have to go on is the points I mentioned above, the fact that Sonic and Snake increase profit, which all companies strive for, the fact that Konami and Sega still seem willing to have their characters included as they still support and collaborate with Nintendo, the affinity Sakurai has recently shown about the inclusion of those characters, plus the fact that if they were cut, Sakurai would be cutting the most requested character in the history of Smash, and Sakurai knows this. What do you think is going to happen if Sonic is cut? Do you think his demand, support, and popularity will just go away? For future Smash games, imagine the popularity Sonic initially had for Brawl, and multiply that by the boost in popularity Mewtwo and Roy gained when they were cut. It will be a ridiculous amount, and Sakurai would be foolish to ignore it on some principle some other companies adhere to that is optional. Sonic would return eventually, which means he would be a guest with more than one appearance. Chances are Snake would come back too, it’s not like he’d stop being profitable either, plus he would also have a “cut-character popularity boost”.

However, I did acknowledge the possibility of Sonic and Snake not returning in SSB4, I just don’t think it’s all that likely (what I didn’t acknowledge was one returning while the other doesn’t).

Yeah, that's a possibility too, but I wrote my post under the hypothetical situation that Konami and Sega are still of the same mindset and the same or similar legal specifications they were for Brawl, as honestly I don't think they'd change drastically in either regard, at least with their MGS and Sonic IPs.

I'd say Sonic and Snake are like 50-50 to come back... but I hope they do come back, both because I love being able to have Mario vs. Sonic fights and because I really don't want to be around for the chaos that will happen if they are removed- especially Sonic.

I'm not a sonic fan, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about going through the work to get Sonic in the smash series only to kick him out for the next game. It would rain tears for months.

If Snake returned, I'd hope they plan on fixing him too. You can't be powerful with long-range explosives, be powerful in short-range attacks, and be a heavyweight. That's not very nice.

Word. Sonic's moveset can be improved to suit the character more. Same goes for Luigi.

Sakurai already said he want more balance, and with more chars, then is harder.

^^The old thread still has this one beat, we already had around 3000/4000 by January last year.

It's kinda funny, but in reality a good chunk of those tears will also come from us as well. We may not act like it or even rage on it, but deep down inside disappointment will reign. -I feel like Zelda should get another rep. But I just don't know who at the moment
-Same thing with Pokemon. For gen V I'd love to see Zoroark or Genesect. But I can defiantly see a 6th gen as a possibility
-Non-Specific Action Figure is more of a wtf character placeholder. Although, out of all the possibilities, I'd prefer to see NSAF

ur roster is pretty good and pretty realistic imo. i personally would take out NSAF and put in Pac-Man. but that's just me.

Yeah I tried to limit myself by adding only one new 3rd party character, in this case Mega Man. But you never know, maybe we'll get two. At least I'm hoping, though I'd be fine if we just get one.

That's a pretty solid roster, especially if it's your first time.
It's actually pretty similar to mine, that must be why it's so solid.

Anyway, I'd consider taking out NSAF, and I personally don't think the chance of getting four FE reps is too high, but overall a pretty good job.

And Pac-Man isn't necessary to add, but if you eventually do add a Namco character, he's the best bet.
