Yeah, the key is trying to separate my heart from my head. For instance: the cuddly part of me adores Starfy, really do, but I know he has a snowballs chance in a volcano of getting anywhere beyond AT status.

I would actually really like Starfy too, but from the prospective of the ocean being a bit of a soft spot for me. Also because the first Legendary Starfy game was the first import I ever did.

In general my "wants" and "expectations" are kind of different, mainly because of me knowing that nether can be exactly synchronized.

Yeah I have a number of characters that I expect but don't necessarily want(like Chrom, and additional Mario/Zelda reps). I also have a few characters I DON'T want in the game at all, but kinda expect that they'll get in. Anyone else have characters like that?

Not really, outside of Waluigi perhaps, who (luckily) doesn't even stand that much of a chance. Didn't want Sonic in Brawl however, but I guess it couldn't be helped. Was ESPECIALLY pissed to hear that Sonic was favored over Mewtwo (and to a lesser extinct, Roy). So that pissed me off even more.

You know what we didn't discuss in a long time? Golden Sun. Damn, I want more content from that game in Smash. Even if it's just a stage. The chances of Isaac (or Matthew) appearing also seems to become slimmer each day.

The only character I don't want but still expect is Bowser Jr., honestly. Mainly because I find the character to be a lazy rehash of Baby Bowser who is a very annoying brat of a character, but I still expect it because apparently the developers love that little ****.

The only Mario newcomer I really want so badly is Toad. If he gets in along with the four Mario characters from Brawl, I'll be 100% satisfied with the Mario roster even if I'm not 100% satisfied with the whole roster.

At this point the only Mario person that even remotely interests me is Paper Mario. At least with him playable, we're guaranteed a Paper Mario stage and tunes.

^This. i'm a huge fan of Paper Mario. I see more unique potential from him than any other character. My two most wanted Mario newcomers are Bowser Jr. and Paper Mario, but I'm indeed biased for Paper Mario.

I would like to see Toad too, but for me he is not necessary. He would definitely be a pleasant surprise though. Wario's Woods is my favorite puzzle game of all time. He has got a lot of competition for a Mario newcomer spot (though I think he is the most likely of the bunch), and also there is also a large sentiment that Mario does not "need" a newcomer.

The same goes for Dixie Kong too. I would like to see her and she would be a pleasant surprise for me, but she is not necessary. I really liked using her in DKC2 and DKC3. Unfortunately, I think her chances are only 50/50, and that more interest in her being playable won't happen unless she either gets a new game appearance and/or K. Rool gets confirmed. If Diddy Kong Racing Wii U is real (I am not holding my breath on that) or Dixie Kong is playable in another DK plaformer before Smash 4's release, I would definitely have far more interest in her getting in.

The only two choices I see possible now for the Mario roster are Bowser Jr and Paper Mario.

Bowser Jr made a big impact this past gen on the Wii and DS. He was just there for the Gamecube and GBA, but he was a lot more important once the Wii and DS came out (and still is on the Wii U and 3DS). He was a villain (one of the major ones) in both Galaxies and all 4 New Super Mario Bros games. On top of all of the side games.

Paper Mario is also a popular character that represents the latest two Paper mario games, Super Paper Mario and Paper Mario Sticker Star. He represents a whole other side of the Mario franchise.

If I had to pick one it would be Bowser Jr though to add another villain to the Mario roster, and not just another version of Mario.

The likes of Waluigi and Toad either don't make sense or have done literally nothing to deserve it. Wauigi is an exclusive side game character (and he missed out on the latest Mario Kart). The only important thing he has ever done was be a villain in that Mario DDR game on Gamecube. And guess what, that got him no hwere near playable in Brawl (when they were looking at Gamecube and GBA). He has done nothing of importance since then on the Wii, DS, and 3DS. The only way he would ever be in is if he is in a WarioWare, Wario Land, a main Mario, or any major Mario related game. I say keep him as an AT but make him represent Mario Strikers Charged, kicking soccerballs/footballs at players.

As for Toad, he is just too minor for it and he is already part of Peach. I know they are pretty important to the series but would you really want a Toad over the likes of Bowser Jr and Paper Mario?

At this point, everything should be taken for granted. I mean everything is pretty well represented to begin with, so anything new should be treated as a "bonus" you could say. Technically speaking the only "deserving" ones regarding to newcomer to the existing franchises would be Ridley (recurring atagonist and arch-enemy of Samus) and Palutena (Important enough to be mentioned in the Japanese titles). Everything else should be treated as a little something extra, like King K. Rool and Toad.

This is disregarding whatever established represents a new franchise (Little Mac, Takamaru, Shulk etc), of course.

Bandana ee isn't a generic, as he's distinguished from other Waddle Dees by his moves and his Bandana.

Also, being a membeer of a 'generic' species isn't really an point against a character.

The SSB4 roster needs a mix of characters from franchises already repped as well as new ones yet to be repped.

The likes of Bowser Jr, Ghirahim, Ridley, Micaiah, Chrom, Palutena, 2nd Gen Trainer, Mona, and Zoroark for already repped franchises.

When it comes ot newer franchises, we could get Shulk (Xenoblade), Isa (Sin & Punishment), Matthew (Golden Sun), Little Mac (Punchout), Ray Mk3 (Custom Robo), Andy (Advance Wars), Aeron (Pandora's Tower), and Mii (The Wii Seres).

Then Takamaru, Sheriff, and Balloon Fighter for the retro choices.

I don't know if its for anyone else, but the more I play Melee the more I miss Mewtwo and Roy. Heck, it even extends to Dr. Mario and Pichu (at this point, they would be pleasant surprises for me if they somehow managed to show up again, and as a I said before, at this point I would not mind buying them as DLC). Brawl definitely had a far superior roster, but there was just something special about Melee, everything just felt smoother and flowed better.

Give me half an hour and I can find you 10 fanfics that either star a Lucario or Riolu, or the main character possesses a Lucario or Riolu. It would take me a good hour to find three Jigglypuffs. It'd take four weeks for me to so much as hear mention of an Octillery. Lucario is quite beloved among the fanbase (At least, the west). That make hims iconic, does it not?

Luigi has no purpose in Mario. Mario is the hero, Peach is the damsel, and Bowser is the villain. Luigi is just there.

Also, lol @ DeDeDe being the villain. DeDeDe hasn't been the bad guy of his own will in a non-remake since Kirby's Dream Land.

To me I never felt anything special about Roy (because I always viewed him as cheap advertisement fodder), but I felt something special about Mewtwo for the wrong reasons. Mewtwo was a character that got me excited, but then got me disappointed. To this day I don't feel guilty at all for Mewtwo for being cut, but at the same time it was disgraceful something so amazing could turn so terrible.

Meh, Lucario was well received and people like him for his character, simple as that.

Personally liked Movies 3, 5, 6, and 8. Haven't seen 15 but I heard it was pretty good.
