I suck at Chinese. I double checked some of the corrections and they're wrong on many counts.

"提出" is probably better defined as "bring up" rather than "give", such as bringing up a point/idea. This word has nothing to do with growing up though. I suppose you were trying to say the girl was brought up in America? "长大" is the correct word to use though.

"家长" can mean either parents or guardians (literal meaning 家=family/长=superior -> head of the family). 家长 is used in a more serious environment such as in school. For example, "your performance on this test was unacceptable, I will be speaking to your parents immediately". In this case, you'd want to use "父母" anyway.
