Why does it say "Warning Challenger Approaching" then? That's what it says when you have to face a character you're unlocking. I'm pretty sure Sakurai knows about that. Why would he do that rather than simply putting up the profile if he was a standard character??

Why would sakurai reveal a SECRET unlockable character far before the game is realesed?

Ya, I don't think ridley will be confirmed before the game comes out. I think he's gonna be one of those surprise characters that people have to unlock. He's probably talking about Ike because he knows that people are itching to find out about new characters and he'll probably either be usable from the beginning or one of the first unlocked characters. My question is whether he will be taking Marth's/Roy's place or not. I hope not.

Probably roy, but that is because he is a clone and I hate clones. I notice his sword has a widened tip, I hope that is it's sweetspot.

Probably a very good remix (so he's not a clone) of roy (the explosion slash is cool, though I have not seen what he can do in the games.

...I think I agree with silver. Ike will most likely be pretty slow-ish, so his fighting style is much different.
Now Marth, on the other hand will probably retain his speed, but I guess his moveset will be different. If I'm not mistaken, Marth was originally a fencer, which explains his tipper. Now Ike's sword looks quite tipperish...
And it would probably be welcome for them to have different styles.

Another point ike will replace roy (other than the fact he is a clone)-they both are slow.

Okay, now, the way I see it, there are two possibilities.

1. The fact that a total newcomer was announced before we had Meta Knight or Snake's profiles means we're getting starting characters before secret characters. Ridley won't be appearing for a very long time. The "Warning: New Challenger Approaching" could easily just mean new to the game rather than signifying an unlockable character.

2. Sakurai is announcing the more likely characters first and saving the suprises until later, regardless of unlockable status. Fire Emblem characters were secret in Melee, and Sakurai hasn't hesitated to show secret characters early before. We haven't seen Meta Knight and Snake yet because he is wacky and unpredictable. Many people expected a new FE swordsman to replace Marth and Roy (sorry Silver, but that's my prediction...multiple swordsman in reference to a game that's all about the balance of three different weapons is a waste of potential), and since Ike will have been in multiple games and is well-known in both the U.S. and Japan, he was the most likely candidate. In this case, Ridley will probably be one of the next three or four characters announced (I'll bet Krystal and Dedede wouldn't be too far off either).

...I guess that really isn't too helpful after all. Oh well. Even if Ridley isn't announced for a long time, if we see an Artifact Temple or Ridley's Lair stage announced that doesn't have Ridley in the background, that's as good as a confirmation for me.
