idk no real rules i guess, just basic ones. i only recently got back into it too. i had stopped playing wayyyyyy back when neo genisis first came out. i tried using my old decks vs the guys new ones, but the old cards just get wrecked so hard. so i bought a deck or two, threw them together and i do decent i guess.

you can use whatever really. its just casual play, for fun or whatever. i try to only use one or two of the old cards in each deck.

i have these awesome old school black star promo eevee's. they only have 30 hp, but whenever a poke evolves, (either your or your opponents) you can auto search a eevee evo and evolve eevee at the same time. its like one of my favorite cards.
