Hey everyone, what's up? Remember all of the videos from Apex 2012? That was awesome, so many great sets recorded, and it was all quite organized. This year, we're looking to break expectations yet again. This year even more videos will be recorded, and the processed will be more organized.

We aim to have a similar style as last year, with prominent recording setups featured throughout the venue so any high profile matches that can't make it on stream will still be recorded! Help out in documenting some of the best competitive Smash anyone will ever see!

We're looking for 16-24 people to help out with recording matches at Apex 2013. All we need is for you to bring your equipment and set it up at one of our dedicated recording stations. Any time you can monitor your station would be strongly appreciated, as we will need a list of which matches happened there as they did so we know who are playing in the videos. If you can not monitor your station at all, please let us know. We will also do our best to make sure you enjoy your time at Apex 2013 as much as possible!

I'll be sure to update this thread soon with any kinds of perks we can offer the recorders for your help!

If you would like to help out, please list in this thread that you can help, and if you can monitor your station at all. In addition, please list if you have a preference of which game you would like to record, or if you have no preference. In the event that one game receives a majority of recorders over another, we may kindly ask some people to switch around to make sure every event gets their fair share of recording, however last year ended up to be pretty balanced anyway, so I doubt this matters. If you can also list what hardware/software you use for recording, that would be great!

Throughout the event we will be collecting the recorded videos by an external hard drive, then doing some post production work on them (adding on overlays with player titles, score, etc), and uploading the videos. We will also be trying to get some of the videos up the day of so everyone at home can watch them. All you have to worry about is recording them and we'll take care of the rest, and your hard work will certainly be credited.

Let us know also if you have any questions. You may direct any questions in this thread to either myself or Chain-Ace (and Juggleguy will also likely be helping out like last year once he's done his finals).

This event I only want to record the Melee 1v1 bracket

On 1 of my devices I record in AVI with lagarith encoding. You can open and use these types of files on whatever software you're using, right?

I actually haven't heard of of Lagarith to now. I already found downloads to the codec for it, what kind of programs can open it after getting that, or do you know of any good converters for it? I'm sure I'll be able to work with it.

iirc, they wouldn't hack any wii, so...

Also, neither Melee nor 64 can be saved, they NEED to be recorded.

I use VirtualDub to edit those videos

Have you contacted the National Replay Project dudes?

Yes, I seem to remember Alex Strife saying that, otherwise I would have contacted him awhile ago about it.

EDIT: As long as they agree to bring it back to us, I can see about sending a couple of capture cards with Player-1 and Kismet.

I'll let you guys know if I can bring my recording set up and chibo knows what I have it's the same capture device you have the blackmagic shuttle that records HD and I'll see if I can bring a 1TB hard drive to back up the videos however I need to figure out how to record without taking much space can you help me out with the set up chibo?

Or perhaps I could offer advice too?

Lagarith is a lossless compression codec that cuts the file size by like 2/3

If you want a smaller compression during recording try DivX (Set quality to 1 and bitrate to 3000 imo)

I'll be collecting videos periodically so if you start to run out of space just lemme know and I'll collect yours sooner or whenever

I could bring my laptop and dazzle. I'm just not sure how I feel about leaving my laptop around while I'll probably be brawl monstering for the weekend. Also hacked Wii's are banned, right? So I can't just use force replay and send somebody the replays later?

I can bring a recording station, laptop/dazzle dvc100 , I'll either use xsplit or pinnacle...or maybe even VirtualDub to record, if you have a preference on software let me know. I will likely not monitor it at all though because I'll be busy prepping for melee pool's, but after I am done with the tournament I may loiter around the set up.

Oh yea, Melee.
