The amazing reveal trailer, with all the ARMS characters fighting for the invite, and having Min Min jump in and finally grab it. It could not have been better. And having Captain Falcon eating ramen with Kirby made it even better. Min Min looks so so good in Smash and I am so excited she's in. Her playstyle looks very unorthodox but it's about as true to ARMS as they could have done. The music tracks are so good, and I like the stage too.

That alone made the stream for me. Also, seeing Sakurai streaming from his house was really fun.

I love Callie and Marie so seeing Mii costumes for them is fun. Disappointed in the possible Heihachi deconfirmation but at least his costume is in. I feel like Vault Boy is an incredibly strange addition, and it doesn't appeal to me personally, but it's another popular series represented in some way.

The Spirits segment was fun and makes me think about how clever and fun the Spirits system in Ultimate is. Seeing Sakurai show off the two new amiibo was super pure and I loved it. Plus, Joker's amiibo looks amazing. Also, I kind of just wish they'd let the VA record some fresh lines for Captain Falcon. He's been stuck with the same ones forever!

Anyway, I really enjoyed it.

I was initially apprehensive to an ARMS character because it just did not look to me like it would be fun. I assumed they would take the path of least resistance and go with Spring Man, give him a bunch of range, and call it a day.

Instead we got the most popular ARMS character and my personal favorite in the race for an ARMS character. She has an incredibly unique moveset pulling from a bunhc of different ARMS. She even makes you play smash like ARMS, running in and hitting buttons wont work.

What really sold it was the trailer. It was adorable as hell and a personal favorite of mine. Up there with K Rool , Terry, and Game Awards Joker for my favorite reveals.

My only nitpick is that with those arches Spring Stadium is not legal but it looks fun still.

Mii Costumes look tight, I like the Vault Boy one a lot.

I've wanted ARMS representation for the base game and would've settled for a Min Min mii fighter costume.
Favorite ARMS character and main, the remixes from what I can hear sound great. Before the direct was talking with my brother about how they could probably use A and B for left and right attacks.

Didn't expect a full trailer either, was expecting a gameplay trailer ala the Smash 4 dlc.

Not the most hype of reveals, but that's probably because of speculation burnout. Min Min herself looks really fun and unique, and translates the gameplay of ARMS into Smash in a pretty creative way. Spirits having a shot again is just the cherry on top. I find it kinda odd that Sakurai didn't go over the Spirit Board during the presentation, though. Maybe he ran out of time or something?

Poor, poor Spring Man, though. Move over Chrom, looks like the Smash fandom's got a new sandbag.

Min Min is a good choice imo - the only reason this isn't a 100 is because I just KNOW people will point at this for the next years and say that Spring Man and Ribbon Girl don't matter and that Min Min is the "default main character" for ARMS. Which legitimately sounds like something people with little experience in how fighting games work their rosters would say.

Anywho, Min Min has one of the most unique movesets I've ever seen in a Smash character. Legitimately one of the best first party - nay, one of the best reveals we've had period. I like how despite all the shade thrown at ARMS as a fighting game, an ARMS character is the one to push Smash's control scheme to its limits way more than Ryu or Terry. Can't wait to try her and be toxic online try to learn how to edgeguard with her range. Stage is interesting enough and - dare I say - has the potential to be viable. Plus we get Spirit rematches and the absolute bangers in the ARMS soundtrack.

Lastly, I loved the little references to ARMS' artstyle and trailers in this reveal - especially in the Final Smash.

Deducting 10% only because (no date? meh) I prefer Twintelle, but Min Min was the only other ARMS character I wanted to see in. But "whozit" aside, what really satisfies me is how Sakurai, from a design viewpoint, didn't let himself be limited by the usual conventions. B button? More like, right ARM button. Most people design their fanmade kits using the regular neutral b, side b, etc. Sakurai's aim is to let you play like your character but in Smash.

Megaman? No tilt, can run and jump while "jabbing".
Ryu? Introducing shouta mechanics, including special cancelling.
Min Min? Moving the 2 joycons simulated by the A and B buttons.

His outside-the-box thinking is so refreshing. For example, fanmade Lu Bu (or any other Warriors char) kit? Neutral b blah blah, side b is... Sakurai's Lu Bu kit? A is weak attack, B is strong attack. Pressing B at the end of a string of As unleashes a different attack. Because that's how you play him in Warriors. So that's how you'll play him in Smash. That Min Min design reminded me of what I love in Sakurai's way of doing things.

I'll admit I've never really understood why Min Min of all people was the popular one, but she looks to represent ARMS well enough. Feel bad for Spring Man, though. He's quickly becoming the new Chrom. More importantly, however, is that we now know base game Spirits at least don't deconfirm. That DEFINETLY helps a bunch of characters (spoilers for his faster-than-I-expected rerate, but I think Rex is a shoe-in at this point). Assist Trophies, on the other hand... not looking too good. This could understandably be interpreted as "Assists deconfirm" for a lot of people. Also, and I may be overthinking this, but I don't think we've seen the last of the "main character/mascot first" fanrule. It was stated that "everyone is the main character" in the presentation, and Sakurai even admitted that Min Min was specifically requested by the creator. For all we know, she could be the exception, not the standard. As for Heihachi's Mii costume, can't say I'm surprised. He seemed like a pretty safe bet to bring back. Overall, solid presentation, just not to my tastes.

Satisfaction: 30%. Don't care for the character. No disrespect to anyone, but she's not who I remotely wanted. Dr. Coyle and Spring Man were my core wants.

That said, this does some neat stuff; Spirits in base game don't inherently matter(I saw this coming), the whole "protagonist first" is not really intended to be the case. It was clearly just a favorite character being asked to be in, same way as how we got Snake. She's not a main character or mascot either, meaning the character options are more open, though not much. Considering the context.

The stage not being her own is strange, but it makes some sense since she's representing the entire franchise overall, not just herself. It's good there's a reasonable amount of focus on her ARMS too. Could've had a few less kicks and more ARM action, but it works.

I think the costumes are great. No indie costumes either(Fallout isn't Indie), though.

I also wonder if we're really getting the other Hero amiibo beyond Luminary. It's implied, but not outright said. Still, I'm glad a favorite or fan favorite isn't easily dead in the water just cause they aren't the protagonist, antagonist, mascot, or a main character in general. That's my favorite take. The other one is "no bonus Echoes", just as I predicted.

Though I got some predictions wrong beforehand, I had a couple of correct ones; No Bonus Echoes, only 1 returning Mii costume(RIP Heihachi).

First off, please never use the phrase "We all know" to start an argument as if everyone else already agrees with you on a subconscious level. It's just a tacky linguistic move.

They didn't plan wave two of DLC from the get-go. I don't see how the only thing that could make them upgrade a NPC to playable is promotional material, or else Lucas in Sm4sh has some explaining to do with Mother 3 having still not been localized. Also, would a non-spirit ARMS character have not been a "shill" pick in your mind?

Also, seriously, "deface"? Even if you don't care about ARMS, you can see the care put into this character. It's a really impressive moveset that uniquely transfers the feeling of playing ARMS into Smash.

You're more then entitled to dislike Min Min if you want, but please don't act like you're caring about the artistic nature of Smash Bros for it... Seriously, if ARMS is a shill pick, then any first-party IP that didn't fundamentally reshake the games industry and is still making Nintendo money is.

ARMS sold more than 2 millions, what are you talking about? It outsold Octopath Traveler or Xenoblade Chronicles 2. Astral Chain sold just a bit over 1m. Those sales aren't anything to scoff at. I'd have agreed for Ice Climbers, but ARMS helped propel the Switch forward in its earlier days when its library was still limited. And people have said its character design is one of the best Nintendo has offered in recent years. Amageish said it best:

Bruh, ARMS sold around two million copies. If that isn't enough in terms of sales to warrant an inclusion in Smash, then we'd have to remove a lot of characters on the roster.
