Just lettin' y'all know that there's a 95% chance that I'll drop Snake if MK is banned.

I don't wanna play the #1 in the game for some reason, and I need an excuse to start using different characters..

snake won't be #1 with MK out of the picture anyway, he's not really even the second best character now IMO.

that being said, he's not going to be banned anyway, not by the SBR. certain communities like texas will ban him and maybe it'll catch on and spread, but he's not going to get nationally banned, and here in atlantic north at least he will not be banned period.

I think this will continue to divide the community for a long time no matter what happens, MK won't really be banned or unbanned at some point, I think the two will have a strange coexistence for some time. I see this as happening in the following ways

1. SBR votes no ban, some places like texas and socal ban him anyway, some others may follow suit but the majority won't

2. SBR votes ban, places like europe and atlantic north will not ban meta knight anyway.

A) in either of the above cases, some regions will be intermingled and pro and anti ban tournaments will take place simultaneously, with one proving to be more successful than the other. eventually the other ceases to exist, rendering the SBR's judgement totally unimportant in the end.

B) MLG picks up brawl again in 2010 and uses the SBR's recommended rules, this is now official and major so most tournaments will follow because no one wants a scrub community that isn't prepared for a character that is totally legal at the highest level of play

C) brawl dies a horrible gruesome death and we all go back to playing melee like we should have been from the start.

do we really know just how influential they are? what have they banned or suggested that a very very large amount of the community didn't already agree with or view to be more trivial? this is different, far more divisive, than anything else that has happened. I'm predicting with almost absolute certainty that they will vote no ban, and several communities will ban him anyway(some already do), and it could in fact spread from there.

ya know... you should have just done banned and non banned mk tournaments IN THE FIRST PLACE WHEN THE GAME WAS OUT FOR 3-6 MONTHS
Agreed. Just let people with personal preferences do what they want. People with similar ideology will try to stick together. Let the hosts of tourneys decide, perhaps... Anyway, if you need a 2/3 vote to ban, I don't see it happening.

the problem with this community is conform or die, that's like the biggest issue i see...

follow the rules and u make profit for the venue, don't follow you get **** on and no one comes anymore

I personally hate conforming to **** like this. I find it hard to find people with similar ideals and open to discuss **** without coming to stupid conclusions

following sbr is like following Daigo, justin wong, and anyone else influental in SF community

turn around....
That's a bit extreme.
The reason I said that they are influential, was to point out that they are not absolute.
You can tweak somes rules, and still provide a healthy tournament experience (depending on the rules you tweak and how).

The SBR recommended rule set exist to make things easier for the TO, as it is constructed with the best tournament experience in mind.
If you want tourneys with MK allowed, dammit man, you're the TO, unban him then!
People will attend, because there are some who likes MK unbanned.

You'll just miss out on some support, give or take.
Is it price worth paying?

Really? Wow, lame. Geeze, i don't look in other regional zones threads besides the ones that directly apply to me. Why would people feel the need to hate on another state/region. I swear, all this ban talk is gonna bring the Smash Armageddon...

here's the thread for anyone who wishes to read

http://www.smashboards.com/showthread.php?t=242784

edit: a good portion of the voters there do not play brawl at all... all they do is bash at it

edit again: a good portion of the voters pick no ban on mk are mk users themselves

So I may be dropping Snake to spend more time on my Sheik. Or I may be keeping Snake because this game takes no skill and I quit for 3 months, came back, and my Snake had improved.. so I don't need to play as him.. and I'd be using Sheik for the next AiB Ladder Season and Snake for offline play.

Thoughts?

You have to beat me with Snake first.

Snake to sheik... that's a dramatic drop in power... well, i guess going snake -> everyone else, is dropping power too. Sheik's cool i guess.

What the fa...

Only in Japan.
Right? I don't understand why they tend to do such... crazy random things. What perplexes me even more is why people become such japan fanboys. Do you really want to praise corn and potato kitkats?

Inui is seriously ********, has never seen my signature, and has probably never faced an Olimar.

I love how he thinks he knows everything about everyone simply because he has a purple name. I can't even recall the last time he placed in a major tourney.. anyone want to give me some of his tourney results?

Purples are generally the "pro's" but some of them are just so out of the loop.....

Red names are generally knowledgeable about their mains when they main a certain part. You generally don't get to moderate a place unless you know the characters metagame really well and can provide knowledge of the character. :) So following the reds (maybe with a grain of salt, because I'm not saying we're all pro's with our characters...) is generally smart.

Blue names host tourneys. <_< wippee? :p
Tourney hosters oversee the tournament, right? This gives them an idea of the smash scene overall. If they host enough they should see some general trends to the community. That in itself makes them knowledgeable in something.
