It seems that because of an earthquake, the Nintendo Direct is postponed
Yep, it's a bit of a shame, but safety of the japanese people definitely is a priority, showing some games can wait.
It's saddening to know that Japan is a place where many natural disasters can happen, it's such a beautiful country with wonderful people and culture.

Luckily, there seems to be relatively few casualties considering the magnitude of the earthquake and the greatest risk seems to have passed, which should hopefully mean a speedy recovery.

Japan do have building made with the risk of earthquakes in mind, so I believed that greatly helped preventing casualties. Let's hope for a quick recovery indeed!

Getting something liked by somebody famous is a weird moment in your life.

I mean, it's probably nothing, but if anything else, stranger things have happened.

So hope Medusa is one of the next characters.
Me too, I so hope it.. I can already imagine her entering the fight and it fills me with satisfaction. I

I've also been trying to look for any hints they could've potentially dropped in any of the Castlevania trailers.. nothing seemingly substantial.

The only "thing" (I'm not even gonna call it a hint) I was able to find (and prepare to stretch for this reach) is that when Castlevania Medusa gets angry, her eyes turn a bright orange and yellow, just like our KI Medusa's true form (or when she shoots a laser out of her eyes). It very most likely means nothing at all, but as a spectator I'm trying to look at all the details because that's just fun. Orange and yellow are intense colors and make it look more evil than say blue, so there's definitely nothing more to this. But I wanted to share it anyway lol.

Actually, another thing that caught my attention (and this is likely still a reach) is that on the Smash Blog they showed the Castlevania stage one day, right? They showed one screen of the stage as a whole, and one screen of Medusa in particular.. doesn't it seem at least slightly odd that they would show Medusa only? I mean, maybe she's just that significant of an enemy in the games that it's very recognizable to the fans (I have no idea, never played Castlevania), but why show just Medusa? Like why not Dracula? Or several other monsters? This probably means nothing as it seems too obscure, but you never truly know it with Sakurai. In another screen Isaac seemed to have been hinted at, so he might very well be doing the same here (though still most likely not, please don't attack me lol). People haven't really talked about this it seems, as it's just too vague, but I wanted to bring it up anyway. If it has been talked about on here before, then my apologies for bringing it up again lol

I think it was because Sakurai likes Medusa and it reminded him of our KI Medusa.. And with rumors of a new Kirby character, surely Kid Icarus will get a character too even if its just a echo, I believe Medusa will be in.. We saw this Medusa in the Castlevania movie, now its time to see our KI Medusa!

Yeah, let's hope Sakurai-bias will bring us our Medusa.. *gets Viridi instaed*. I would actually be slightly pissed off if that happened, I just think Medusa should be in before any other KI reps.. however Viridi or any KI rep would still be cool though. We'll just have to wait and see..

Sign me up. Medusa has always been a character I loved.
Added to the list!

Wondering when the rescheduled direct will be
According to Splatoon data, it should the 13th for Europe and America, like TeamFlareZakk estimate.

This is most likely a stretch indeed, but it's true that of all monsters shown, it's Medusa that is chosen for the blog.

Generally, my rule is "would this make sense even if X character wasn't in?". For example, Samus losing her Dark Samus color didn't make sense unless Dark Samus was an echo, so I took it as a clue. The Medusa heads would still be there even if Medusa was nowhere to be found. They're an iconic Castlevania enemy.

It doesnt make much sense that she isnt in yet.. Take a look at how awkward and incomplete the Kid Icarus series looks, its just Palutena and two Pits.. Medusa would surely balance that out if she was added

That's very true. Which is why everything I mentioned is most likely a stretch, but Sakurai still could use that Medusa as a way to hint regardless. Though again, probably not.

Ooh, only time will tell..

I'm happy this place is active and erotic heteretic is back as the owner :D

Can't believe how much difference the echo branding makes.

It's nice to see activity indeed! The echo concept (and also Dark Samus' animations, proving it's not a strict carbon copy) really help indeed.

I will probably make a section about Medusa as an echo in the opening post tomorrow!

I agree, but it took Metroid and DK fans 17 years or more to finally get Ridley and K. Rool in Smash which, before their inclusion made their franchises look very incompletely represented in the roster. Let's hope we don't have to wait that long for Medusa, Viridi, and Hades.

I've been supporting Ridley and K.Rool since Melee, the "the series looks incomplete" argument has demonstrably never meant anything. Donkey Kong still doesn't have Dixie Kong. Fire Emblem doesn't have a villain nor a not-sword user. Zelda still can't get anything beyond Link, Zelda and Ganondorf. Hell, while I fully believe she is one of the remaining characters, Animal Crossing doesn't even have its mascot yet.

Truth of the matter is that Medusa is only the main villain in one game and a secondary villain in another, in which she was actively replaced (I'm a bit salty over that) by Hades in terms of villainous presence. And Kid Icarus isn't really a huge, or ground-breakingly succesful series either, so it's not like her absence stings as much as, say, Ganondorf's would or K.Rool's did. Medusa could, and honestly should, be added, but they won't do that just to make the Kid Icarus series look complete. In terms of significance to the series, Medusa might be the most important character remaining yet, but specifically in terms of Uprising, she's definitely below Hades and probably on the level of Viridi. Hell, considering Dark Pit was put alongside all the villains in Smash Bros 4's co-op event, it almost seems as if Sakurai considers him the villain representation of Kid Icarus (somehow).

Now, I don't want to come across as particularly negative or anything. Medusa should be in. Design wise, we can all agree she looks awesome, but she's also a female with an edge and we don't have any of those on the roster. Role wise, she is one of the NES villains without any representation in Smash yet, and the fact the marketing of Kid Icarus did paint her as the main villain shows that she can be reasonably be called the main villain of the franchise. And gameplay wise, of course, she is a relatively simple echo of Palutena, which is what makes her a plausible choice to begin with.

Just... yeah. Don't fall for the "the series looks incomplete" argument. You could argue similarly for a lot of other series, including some which are bigger and more important than Kid Icarus. I honestly count myself incredibly lucky that my favorite Kid Icarus character remaining can be built off Palutena without much of a problem.

Medusa's an awesome villain, and the dark goddess of the underworld definitely deserves a place in Smash next to her other legendary NES era villainous comrades. Count me in as a supporter!

Here's why Medusa should be chosen over Hades, Viridi, Magnus and Phosphora or any other Kid Icarus rep if another is to get in.

Not only is she the villain of the first game and seen the same way to Pit as Mario is to Bowser, DK to K. Rool and Samus to Ridley but she has history with Pit and Palutena being she once ruled alongside Palutena but was punished and banished to the underworld due to her cruel treatment towards humans. She's also a female villain, something Smash could use more of, so far the only one is Dark Samus.

There's also the fact she can be added as an Echo of Palutena. Not only are they opposites Goddess of Light and Goddess of Dark but they also have the same height and structure as well as wielding staffs. Also having an Echo means less data to be used up being how big of an game Ultimate will be. The others would have to require new movesets and such and no Viridi couldn't be an Echo of Palutena for a few reasons. One she's the Goddess of Nature so obviously if she were to get in she'd have plant based attacks. She also is a lot shorter and doesn't have the structure to match Palutena, that and she's already deconfirmed due to being an hazard in the Reset Bomb Forest stage.

Phosphora and Magnus on the other hand weren't that frequently requested for the ballot nor were up there in the top 20. They're likely to return as assist trophies.

Hades on the other hand only appeared at the end of Uprising as the actual Big Bad whereas Medusa was the actual villain in the first game. That and Hades feels more like he could be a boss due to his nature of devouring souls which fits perfectly for Spirits and if it does have a story mode then he'd work great for an recurring antagonist being among the masterminds behind the story such as recruiting villains like Bowser, Bowser Jr., Dark Samus, Ganondorf, King K. Rool and Ridley as well as mercenaries like Wario and Wolf to collect spirits for him. Being that Sakurai was behind Uprising. I'd be surprised if he didn't do this. It seems like something he would put into the story.

Overall that's why Medusa is the best pick. Pit has an Echo which is his dark counterpart Dark Pit and Palutena would have her dark counterpart which is Medusa. So two uniques and two echos from the same franchise and so perfectly balances it.

Hades is, at best, served as a boss fight. Like Metal Face, he would talk. A lot. During the fight. And, also like Metal Face, he would have unique comments towards each Kid Icarus character. Naturally, if Medusa is fighting him, he would be very demeaning towards her with lines such as these:

*"I gave you life again, and this is how you choose to repay me?"
*"It took two body blows to take you out last time. I can just smush you with one finger now!"
*"Don't tell me the Queen of the Underworld has gotten soft on us?"
*"Face it; you were just hired for your looks... ooh, never mind!"

The irony is that he would actually have more respectable lines towards the other characters, but since Medusa was his puppet, he has absolutely nothing nice to say about her.

Ridley always acted as the iconic villain for Metroid, but if I remember correctly Samus fights the Mother Brain at the end.. Medusa is the iconic villain of Kid Icarus so though Hades was the final boss one time, still hes not as iconic to the entire series as Medusa is.. If anything Hades will probably end up a stage boss like Dracula.

Here's why Medusa should be chosen over Hades, Viridi, Magnus and Phosphora or any other Kid Icarus rep if another is to get in.

Also in Uprising the vs mode is Light vs Dark so Pit and Dark Pit, Palutena and Medusa, they would match that Light vs Dark theme perfectly!

Also another thing that makes Medusa that much easier to add is the fact that now there's the Castlevania Medusa, meaning they have the animations for snake hair and they can easily reuse them. It also shows they're clearly not afraid to animate snake hair in-game, something I'd imagine to be somewhat tricky.

She's got my support.
Actually I kinda wanted her big chunky monster form from the NES game manual to be playable since there's no female heavies, but that was way back before Brawl was even announced and I had just beaten the game on the Wii Virtual Console, but now that her more human form has been made into the more well known standard as of Uprising, I've accepted that human Medusa is all I can hope for, with the monster form being a final Smash. But I'm cool with that, as long as she's in.

About Hades, I do see him as a boss too. Not only his myriad of projectiles works very well as a boss, but I feel that a gigantic boss is needed too, like Master Core's giant form. Hades could play with the stage like this, tilting it, breaking it in half and such.
And... I want him to actually be a surprise boss, appearing like he does in Uprising, during a fake credit sequence.

But yeah, of all characters, Medusa is currently the best choice, especially with the echo concept in mind.

Is it wrong that I also want Medusa in the game so I can ship her and King K. Rool together as my official Smash and crack OTP. Like I'm just picturing a drunken King K. Rool hitting on Medusa at a pub for villains much to her annoyance.

This isn't important, but back for Smash 4, I really wanted to see Medusa play a villainous role in the story. (obviously) I also really wanted Saki in the game, but of course that didn't happen, and probably still won't happen. NEVERTHELESS. I wanted to reiterate that I thought it would be cool if whatever group Saki has teamed up with, eventually they finally get to Medusa. Before they can have a climactic battle however, Medusa uses her powers to induce Saki's giant monster transformation, causing a general ruckus since he doesn't have the best control over it.

Incidentally it'd be so perfect for Saki to team up with Pit since Sakurai based Uprising on Sin & Punishment.

Don't give me dreams like that!
To be honest, while I really love Saki, I think that his son Isa is better for a playable character thanks to his jetpack (and we can have Kachi as an echo as well this way!... Although Airan as an echo of Saki (or even a costume) would be something I like as well).

But yeah, a KI / S&P team would be absolutely perfect.

Edit: I finally added an echo section to the Opening Post. I also removed the semi-clone part as well, as it's rather obsolete.
Tell me if there's anything to change, or if there's typos (keep in mind that english isn't my main language after all, I may miss something obvious).

Have we ever talked about Kid Icarus' logo when ordering characters by series on the official website? It doesn't mean much, as Wario in japan uses the WarioWare Gold logo but doesn't have Ashley as a fighter (although the model, clearly from Smash 4, has be updated to give her back her red eyes), but I think that it's really interesting that KI uses the old NES logo while many other series uses updated looks for the logos.

At least it means that the NES game isn't forgotten. And you now how is in the first game...

... That's right, it's the Eggplant Wizard!

Maybe Captain N entire possible cast with will be complete ! Seriously that's maybe a nod for Medusa since she's the only one besides Pit and Palutena to appear in that game
