Just a question to the qld community. Would there be decent support for a brisbane based tournament monthly run by me and jbirds? I've got a couple of venues in mind that i'm going to sus out first. I know hotcat's is the brisbane monthly but it's too hard to get consistent bookings at jagera.

Just a couple of notes about the monthly (if it does happen)

- It will cater for both brawl and melee (singles and doubles)
- Have a barbeque lunch to help save time wasted by people when they go out to buy lunch
- I will contribute to the venue fee to make the pot bigger
- It would give way to QLD majors and lansmashes i.e. no brisbane based monthly on a lansmash/major month to ensure the tournament listings aren't too cluttered
- Coincide with smashplay dates so that tournaments aren't on back to back weekends.

Basically, do people have a problem with 2 tournaments a month? 1 based in brisbane. 1 based on the gold coast?

I'm just posting this looking for a general opinion before i start searching venues. If there's no support, i won't bother.

p.s. Mod spelt my new name wrong. I'm actually an amazing speller.

I whole-heartedly support this notion of a monthly tournament in Brisbane. I have no qualms with paying money or with time being an issue although this could change when uni goes back next year.

But yes, Brisbane = good.

It's too hard to get bookings at Jagera cause I don't book =P

Will try and book Jagera tomorrow though.

Thanks for putting up with my slackness so far =D

Jagera is a really good venue, if you can get regular tournaments there, then i won't worry about seabirds. I'd just like to see a consistent brisbane monthly.

Btw, how does everyone like my new TD attitude. If i was a tournament director, i'd be wearing that sailor's hat from dorf-off 2 and put it on every tourney. I'd stroll around hurling rules at everyone.

To those who don't know. TD=Top D!ck

who's j-birds?
scrub fox and I will start up our own tournaments called ENM or Egg Nog Monthlies.
entry will be a carton of Egg Nog, prize payout will be however many Egg Nogs we dont drink are left over.

EDIT:

If i was a tournament director, i'd be wearing that sailor's hat from dorf-off 2 and put it on every tourney. I'd stroll around hurling rules at everyone.
you just described me at DORF OFF II lmao RULES! EV1TD

I'm happy for that to go ahead. I was looking at a venue that could possibly be free. Depends how well I can swindle it. It will be half way between the coast and Brisbane.

Have to give a few quick shouts for the last smashplay. Sea's Diddy is brutally good, awesome friendlies. James friendlies were good, good smash discussion. Rocko for timing me out with MK because neither of us could land a kill.

I have never wanted MK banned until this tournament lol.

Yeh pretty sweet friendlies. Wish i could've played Jaice's olimar. Need to work on my tech skill in general and become more autonomous with bananas. First tourney playing as diddy so i still got ****loads to learn.

Forget about brawl for abit though. I'm going to play more melee. I desperately want to get good. How do you guys (Kas, Zac, Ryan, Ben, Rob etc) get that good? At my level, what's the best advice anyone can give me to improve? Should i just play training mode to work on getting around the stage more fluidly or is it more beneficial to just play against people regularly and learn as you go?

Practice beating up Lvl 1's Dan.
You just want punching bags that recover and DI.

Don't use practice mode. I don't think you can use the C-Stick (I forget).

I'll put up results soon. Assignments up the ***.

I say practice on Lvl 1's Dan since after playing you it just felt like you needed to get comfortable. I think once you're really comfortable with Falco and making him do what you want him to you'll be tearing it up.

Practice tech skill on your own. Don't practice combo's / approaching / edgeguarding / etc. Don't do it in training mode either because you need the control stick.

The best experience for melee comes from playing other good people. Like I said, find me at the next tourney I'm at, or meet or whatever (which will be after the 5th due to exams) and I'll show you some things / tell you what you need to work on. Just make sure you can L cancel consistently and jump cancel grab consistently before then.

My play style in particular requires people to make mistakes cuz falcon sucks **** at approaching lol, so any mistakes you make will become obvious after a few games.

lol falcon can approach from half the stage away with flying n-airs, land behind them and repeat.. they try to intercept and get *****.. robs just bad..

I'll say what m2k said - play against cpu's, if your smart, you'll get good.

falcon can move fast. his priority on everything sucks nutsacks though lol, that's why every falcon wins by baiting attacks rather than throwin out overpowered nair's everywhere.

yeah i read somewhere that m2k learnt most of both smash games from CPU's. ****'s crazy though, he said he forces CPU's into situations that would happen in real life and sees what happens or something idk.

We can't all be as good as him.

if you're wanting to learn melee, practice tech by yourself and watch vids. you can't really practice anything else by yourself. just meet with people heaps. that's how i got slightly decent. every week over the summer i just smashed with ben, byrce or josh.

Yeah practice tech....L canceling etc on lvl 3 cpus they have the best DI and also movement platform dashin wavedashing etc...

If you are going to play as falco prepare to be **** for a while... very steep learning curve...

Good Characters that are easier to learn are

Sheik
Jiggs
Marth
Peach (to some extent)

Develop mind games by playing other players

To the OLD post Antho sent me:

I'm on the $49 YES cap on Optus, it's $330 worth of credit to anyone, then $300 to Optus.
I've recently changed to the EXTREME CAP though, so now I have more credit and data to use.
Huzzah~
Hopefully won't be going over my cap as often as I do now, yayaya. C:

Also:

Stop ripping on Cal, he just got kicked out, lol, l2sympathy.
And also, you all fail for arguing over the net anyway, srsly, and you fail at trolling and arguing in general.
Sigh.

Wtf taking so effing long to finish Singles, I mean really, wtf, could you take any longer.
Just... MAN, ZAC, GO BACK TO BEING A TO, ffs.

Lol results.

It's hard when any bracket has to compete with people in other games, people going to dinner, etc.

I'm on a $49 dollar plan with 3 Mobile. $350 + $350 to 3 mobiles. I don't use internet on my phone, so I've dropped data off my plan entirely.

I hope I never go over mine again =_=
