what i hate the most about the current cpu A.I is that they powershield melee attacks way too much and instantly counter attack >>

iirc, PS'ing physical attacks was harder than PS'ing projectiles in Melee?

You are literally wrong on almost every single one of your posts. You give more wrong information than anyone in this thread.

Just because you played brawl+ doesn't mean you know anything about melee

I'd rather derail the thread for 3 seconds than have an idiot that knows literally nothing about melee try to post here like he knows everything

Was referring to the two bickerers lol...

Also, "***" = starts with an "a", ends with an "ss" :p

Anyways... what Dant said... discuss... (or try to I guess...)
(or just wait on a dev to answer that facebook question... anything to get back on topic really >.>)

Yes, I edit my posts a lot... lol...

The most annoying thing about the melee computer was that they had one stratagy, and that was ps projectiles, walk towards you, once they got there jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab, jab. Crouch canceling alone beat melee's cpus.

Mario was the best, because he could be beaten just by standing next to the ledge, and he'd jump off and try to Fair you to his doom.

This is related because I hope P:M's is better.

I remember the days I got owned by the ai. Good times >_>

The only thing the ai is competent at (And I mean damn good at it) is ps projectiles.

Oh and spaceys jab timing was pretty good too iirc.

THis thread filled with so much stupid while I was gone.

That aside, follow Bero's posts, they are interesting. I've seen Dant make CPU Falcos SHL in a stream once, it was pretty impressive.

Spacies jab timing was perfect. They could stop all recoveries with a single punch.

So when Dant says AI stuffs, what's he talking about specifically?

most hopeful for some form of advanced edgeguarding being implemented into the AI, other than them perfectly jabbing you out of your recovery

A level 9 cpu could be an undefeatable fiend

What better way to practice tech skill then to fight an opponent you know you can't beat?

I'm being serious too, though that would be incredibly frustrating.

I dislike both of you.

Oh yeah, AI stuffs will start happening to be put into the ProjectM dev version soon :D

I dislike this entire thread and basically everyone in it. (Except for you Alberta people, you guys are cool)

I just pop by here once in a while to see if P:M has started to resemble Melee yet.

But yeah, Melee AI sucked. Too much PSing, too little edgeguarding, too predictable tech rolls, etc.
Brawl's was already better except for the fact that they never ever tech and just lay on the ground for half an hour

that's actually a cool idea. What if P:M cpus always choose get up techniques/tech rolls completely randomly? probably make them a lot better, and probably allow the player to improve at timing their tech roll punishes, maybe? idk

Hmm... "completely random"...

The best they could do is pseudo-randomness obviously... not sure how they'd do that within this game, having basically no knowledge of the coding myself, but I know games do it all the time with hexadecimals and such. And as nice as random sounds, I'd like there to be some sort of "intelligence" to the cpu if it's to be called "AI", lol. So I don't think "random" is exactly what's desired, but adaptable is.

Maybe make it so that the cpu follows a pattern most of the time, but the more its techs or moves in general get punished, the more often it will be prompted to do something different. Of course, I have no idea if anything that complex is possible and perhaps just making things as random as you can from the get go is more realistic.

In any case, brawl's cpus are already far more unpredictable than their melee counterparts. Some have argued that they already adapt like this and in fact learn from you. I don't know about all that, as I do believe that has been disproved numerous times, but I do wonder if that notion could be the answer... ? Could cpus actually be coded to learn from you and use your tools against you?

Sounds dreadfully complex is all I know from my extremely limited knowledge of coding, heh. At least coding in ATs they didn't use before and making them more suited for melee physics is something... (maybe the only thing).

Is pivot jumping going to stay in Project M? On one hand, it adds the option of approaching with a bair, but I think it takes away quite a bit of the ledge-guarding depth that Melee has. Since Melee has no pivot-jump to edgehogging, characters need to be creative if they want to reach the edge in time. Take a look at some individual characters' best edge guards:

Marth: bair to ledge
Pikachu and Pichu: quick attack to ledge
Shiek: reverse needle charge to ledge
Bowser, Link, and Young Link: dash, then up-b to ledge
Yoshi: either dash, then ledge-cancel an egg throw or run off the ledge and reverse double jump
Samus: on Yoshi's Story, she can reverse super-wavedash to the ledge
Mewtwo: dash off the stage, then up-b to sweetspot the ledge
Captain Falcon: in certain circumstances, moonwalk then jump and grab the ledge
Fox and Falco: run off the ledge, fast-fall, shine, jump, then up-b immediately

Having specific "tricks" that a character must do to reach the ledge, IMO, added a new level to the game and made matches that much more exciting to watch (some of the best ledge hogs look pretty flashy). Some characters' edge hogs are more technically difficult than others. My worry is that if every character can simply dash, then pivot jump to the ledge, that level of gameplay goes away. Add this to the fact some characters simply didn't have quick ledge hogs in Melee, which added a new layer to the strengths and weaknesses of specific characters and specific match-ups.

So while pivot jumping does add more options, I think this is a case where limiting the options actually adds depth to the game. Thoughts?

it's called RAR (reverse aerial rush).... i'm against it aswell. I too believe that, in this case, limiting options will add depth and make the game more fun/challenging

but it seems they decided to keep it

who knows maybe they'll change their minds as P:M's metagame expands

Yeah everyone can just RARWavedash and bam, in less than half a second, your grabing the ledge. But then again I use rar all the time for unexpected bairs.

I'm 50-50 on this one.
