And your larger point is wrong and much more cynical, plenty of developers (gamers themselves) do geniunely care about their community's healthy competitive scene. Yes, apart from the profits.

Nintendo and the Smash developers have never done so, they don't cater to us and my opinion is based on that history.

triforce isn't some guy who got ahold of nintendo PR. he basically got reggie on speed dial, and I would go as far as to argue that he's the major factor behind smash at evo still happening. you're right if you don't trust him with anything else--but here, he's got something big.

Neither do I.
But I do remember the lets play affair, and how Japan gets exclusive games, and how they tried to shut down melee at evo.

I did to but I was just a little kid, the point is every single person on smashboards is a Nintendo fan at heart, otherwise we wouldn't be playing their games. But even though this community is so large Nintendo still ****s on us, and it shows through all their ****ty games and systems. fun fact: they explicitly enforced a fanbase because that's a sure-fire way to get a consistent amount of money. there is quite literally no way around this reality, but people use it to add to this single personality of nintendo as if it were a single person. this is why you all treat it either like a nurturing parent or someone who murdered your whole family

stop treating a corporation as a person, start treating it as what it is; a very large group of people working at once, each within their own flaws and strengths. do this, and you'll understand a lot of things. actually while you're at it, never touching brand obsessiveness ever is a good idea too, console wars are dumb and you're dumb if you take part in it.

According to Nintendo:

1. Plumbing is not an admirable way to make a living. It's much more than that, filled with toilet adventures and creatures to best and wonderful people to talk to. Hopefully that's all *before* the Acid trip wears off. Unclog the problem and flush it away, along with your dreams and your sanity.

These are but a mere snippet of the Nintendo Philosophy. A company who said NO to the mere redundancy of only making trading cards, and who said yes to Turtle v Human warfare.

actually its arguably not in their legal rights to take down lets plays, since use of the game would probably fall under the fair use policy. nintendo just knows its the biggest fish in the pond so nobody is gonna challenge them

Nintendo can easily demand a share of any stream revenue, however miniscule that may be, and force the stream be taken down by the website if the user is noncompliant or sue any hosting service who doesn't follow their cease and desist commandments.

It's not just a matter of shutting down the streams, but trying to control them knowing that few have the money to fight it in court.

Just because they were allowed to do it does not make it right. Those YouTube videos were in no way hurting Nintendo, yet they felt they had to jump in and take some of the income, even though they weren't the one's who put the time and effort into making the videos in the first place.

So a person and an entity are the same thing? Nintendo is one thing. ONE. It is A company. Regardlesss of how many people make it up it is still one thing. The same way cells make up a body, people make up a country, parts make up a machine, and how a mass of employees makes up a company. So it is not silly of anyone to treat Nintendo as 1 thing, and most people don't even treat it as 1, rather they refer to it as one. And I thought you were done on the subject?

I also find it funny that in the eyes of the law, a corporation like Nintendo actually IS a person.

Anyways, even if it's only one department in the company at fault it reflects badly on the company's image as a whole and they should do a better job of communicating with them
to avoid future issues like this.
