Just get monk to learn how to dodge insane amounts of projectiles and I think we got this. xD

It'd work like a puff+ falco team where the puff just dodges all the lasers while falco PEWS and racks up %, and puff ***** them.

Also, the grab-> rest would translate as a grab-> dair lol.

And lol JC, it's probably harder to gimp a fully devoted ROB main, but just from my experiences in BC smashfests anyone who uses ROB gets gimped. It's been bad enough that he's been dubbed yoshi2.0 >_<

I'm excited to play some friendlies with you though at FC, so I know what a good ROB is like in firsthand experience. :p

Speaking of which, Fox is a better Mu, honestly. Ness gets ***** by spam. Although you play ness better in PM from what I saw imo. :p Dem bairs.

I recorded with Okami for a few hours today and will be putting everything up on my Youtube account within the next couple days. </blatant self-propagation>

If you don't know Okami, he's a good Sheik main from AZ who won the last PM tourney there. It wasn't the greatest day for either of us, but there was still some decent stuff here and there.

Lol, no but seriously good characters against campy toonlinks would be characters with good projectiles of their own and/or a way of dealing with projectiles (reflecting them, absorbing them, etc etc)

Obviously, tinks projectiles can't be absorbed, so ness lucas and gw are kinda outta luck in their methods of dealing with projectiles. However, characters like mario, falco, wolf, and pit(?) all have great projectiles of their own and ways of dealing with them.

A good example I can give from my own experience is Mario. I find mario to be a painfully annoying matchup because of his fireballs, and how his cape sends my stuff right back to me. It makes it very difficult to play campy against that kind of character, so I'm forced to play offensively and only use bombs and the very occasional boomerang as my long range tools.

Falco is another example that comes to mind for the same reason.

Fox is easier to deal with since his lasers dont have hitstun, but he can force me to approach by just sitting in his shine.

Hey, I just wanted to let you guys know that there was a PM side-tournament today, full with doubles and singles. Doubles was round-robin between 6 teams; MAD and I won going double Ike, beating every team. Singles was split into 4 pools of 4-5 and top 2 from each pool advanced into an 8-man bracket. The final results were me (1, Ike), Vro (2, Ike), and ORLY (3, Bowser).

I'll make a more formal post once videos and results are up, but the general impression here in IL is that Ike needs nerfs. Dart (arguably the best Marth player in the Midwest) went Marth played a bunch of matches with Vro, both friendly and tournament, but could not figure out what to do against Ike's range, shield stun, and tilts. Later, in the PM bracket, Dart lost against Kels' Sheik in game 1 (Kels is the best player in IL and arguably the best player in the Midwest) after going Marth. In games 2 and 3, he went Ike with no prior experience in using him and won the set.

So yeah... most of IL thinks Ike is too good. Not many people play or follow PM so players are still getting used to the game, but there were a LOT of complaints about Ike from respected members of our community. Again, these are the initial impressions of many players, but most of these players also played against me at our previous tournament (which I also won) and it's hard to argue against popular opinion that Ike is not top tier when double Ike won teams, Winner's Finals were Ike dittos (Vro was tired and forfeited Grand Final's after winning Loser's Finals), and Vro himself thinks that Ike is overpowered.

What are you guys' thoughts on Ike in terms of balance and today's events? To be frank, I think that Ike is at or around top tier and the ability to QD walljump more than 3 times is excessive. A lot of other people thought Ike's tilts are too fast and powerful. However, lack of experience is certainly playing a role in this; TheGoodDoctor (TGD) is a Sheik main that's not as good as Kels, but gives me a much harder time than Kels because TGD has more experience against Ike. While I'm confident that players here in IL will keep playing PM and players will become more familiar with the Ike match-up, I'm also sure that the grumbling about Ike isn't going to stop.

The question is, do you think Ike is better than Fox/Falco? If he's not, I see no reason to nerf him. There is nothing wrong with him being an excessively good character, we already have a few of those. I, too, agree that he is a VERY powerful character, and is kind of annoying to play against, but then again, so is Fox, and we're not nerfing him, right?

However, I do agree about the QD walljump thing, that's a little ridiculous. He would still be a great character without that.

It is rather difficult to convert the files, unlike the japanese version. Also, there is no one at the moment to port the codes and character files.
What would the logistics be to do so? There are quite a lot of smash players in Europe, so it would be worthwhile. Also, it would be a shame if project M was only available to NTSC players.

They're gonna port it eventually... But it's a lot of work, and would take out of the time they have to actually make the game... And they don't have the manpower to do it... So all PAL people just have to hack their wii's for the moment...

and that really isn't too much work...

We do plan to port eventually, but Demo 2.1 is not going to see a PAL release. Final release (whenever that may be) will most certainly get a PAL release, though.

I'd say it's still too early from the sounds of things. If Kels is beating your Ike and TGD isn't, then it's clearly match-up related.

If you mash the right way you break out of grabs extremely quick. I remember back when I followed Brawl someone did some research and said that if you mash as quick as humanly possible DDD cant chaingrab Mario, Luigi, Samus until at least 200%. Because you can break the grab before DDD could pummel once. And he couldnt stand-regrab Bowser/DK for the first 30% because they could break before DDD can input the Dthrow. Granted this is in a "as fast as possible" scenario but people can mash pretty dam fast.

I dont know the exact break function in P:M, but if its still Brawl's mechics then Fly would know how to mash properly, and break out of grabs quickly. Especially considering he was being chain grabbed its easy to mash when you know a grab is coming. That peach got greedy and went for pummels.

I was just snooping around this page http://opensa.dantarion.com/wiki/Character_Slots and I read a very interesting message which goes like this: "This slot and the ones below are unused. This one has been reclaimed for Roy in P:M". This was a note on the MarioD slot. I'd like to confirm if this was a lie or not. I'd be quite happy if it was a lie, if not, then this was the biggest spoiler EVER in the history of spoilers.
It's also at least 2 years old. Back in the Demo 1 days Roy was probably what ? was on the P:M website, but given Dant isn't working on the Clone Engine anymore and the codes that the PMBR would have access to would probably freeze the game in enough instances the game wouldn't look professional anymore I doubt he's currently a part of the game.

Making his down-b JC-able would help alot. It would make a world of difference. As it stands, the move is a little lacking in usefulness. It wouldn't be broken either, seeing as Lucas has it.
Except Lucas is the last character you should bring up as an example of sound design.

Nevertheless, I like the idea of both moves having cancel options on absorb, like they did in Brawl.

Ike is pertty mediocre.
Can you explain why you think this and, if possible, provide video evidence? I'm not trying to deny your point, I'm just trying to see how people can get around Ike's things without going Ike. Would you be willing to watch and comment on my videos when they're uploaded?

its ALWAYS like this, in every god damn game. The easy to play without any potential for development seem overpowered at first, and then they slowly fade away to **** as the game develops

The thing with PM is that no one plays it as a main game, so this period will last longer than usual.

Play someone who can actually play against ike, who knows how to gimp his recovery and abuse his OOS game etc >_>


(the very same applies to Ganon, Bowser, Zard, GAW etc)
