I'm just a bit curious on how the music is handled with this demo. I'm hearing we can put our own custom music for the stages in (and of course I hear beautiful and familiar tracks from ocremix when watching the streams x3). I have a question or two about that:

1.) I will be using the hackless method to play it once it is out. Do I need to have a modded wii inorder to customize the tracks for individual levels...orr is this possible to achieve via hadding the music files in certain places or something on the sd card with demo v2 on it

and 2.) If it is possible for me to choose tracks using the hackless method, do they need to be encoded into any specific format/bit rate for the tracks to work.

Thank you much in advance ^^

and of course THANK YOU SOO MUCH for all the effort you guys (the pmbr) have put into creating one of the most innovative hacks I will have have the pleasure to play within the next 24 hours. I hope you guys put this all on some baller resume and get wonderful careers with this stuff, you people are wonderful.

All edits are done by putting the files in the correct paths on the SD card (check a guide for the folder names). Even using the hackless method, the code that allows custom music is the same one that allows all the other files, so simply having them on your SD card when you load the demo will replace the music.

The format that Brawl uses is .brstm. There are many programs out there that can convert any format to brstm.

Any word about if .brstms included with the demo? Did you guys get in touch with some remix folks like you mentioned in SMYN?

Hackless is just a different method of booting Gecko. Once the codes are loaded it's identical no matter how you do it.

Well now i gotta get the melee sounds and melee textures and some bad *** music and wait for the project M demo 2 to come out
I Might even make it easy for people and upload a folder full of Melee Textures for people to download
if they happen to want em

Personally, I see P:M as a "sequel" to Melee and am okay to have some changes. I think it's unreasonable to 100% "recreate" Melee because that's never the goal of sequels. Have general mechanics and character styles the same but explore with some new mechanics, graphics, and content. For that reason, I see Melee sounds and textures as sort of a step in the wrong direction.

I'm most likely gonna use Melee Fox because I think Brawl Fox looks really stupid. While I do like Melee Falco better than Brawl Falco, I can at least tolerate his Brawl version, unlike Fox.

I'm not using Melee Ganondorf because there are WAY too many awesome textures that use the Brawl model already. Actually ever since I started modding vBrawl I realized that 6 costumes was not enough for Ganondorf.

If they realease it on the 15th at 11:59 pacific time, then it will be "tomorrow" for me (east coast), but I'd say that they still met their deadline.

Or they could go even further west like they joked about.
Yeah... Joked...

The thing is... some of the default Brawl textures are down right ugly. For whatever reason, they went with some really washed out colors for certain characters.

I'd take this:

over this:

Any day. Of course, there are exceptions. Link, Zelda and Ganon look great. Their TP designs are cool. Fox and Falco on the other hand... look awful in Brawl. I much prefer their Star Fox 64 designs (Melee).

The sound effects are another thing. It wasn't too bad in Vanilla Brawl, but with dash dancing, shuffling and all that other good stuff, the sfx that comes out of Captain Falcon are unbearable.

Oh god, **** TP Link. I already replaced all 6 of his costumes with N64 Link a few weeks ago in preparation for the demo.

This time I'm really not kidding. I seriously hate TP's graphic style (part of the reason why it was a bad game too).

I'm not a huge fan of TP either, but I think the art style was the least of its problems. I'm tolerable of his design, unlike clown shoes Brawl Fox.

That being said, OOT Link is far superior:

My Link textures are:

OOT Link
TP Link
SS Link
Fierce Deity Link
Hover Boots and Mirror Shield with Zora Tunic

Yes, I understand. The overall "atmosphere" of Brawl was supposed to be more gritty and dirty than that of Melee, which has a smooth, electric/techno feel to it. But what I'm getting at is that people should be designing what THEY think the texture should be rather than reverting to the Melee texture just because it's Melee. If you like the Melee look and feel, that's fine, but I think we should be moving forward and designing our own, high-res content to suit our preferences rather than reusing the old stuff. After all, we're developers effectively designing a game.

The majority of my Fox and Falco experience comes from Melee, since I have hardly played any of the Starfox games and I'm not heavily invested in any one in particular of their other designs. To me, their Melee models are their "real" designs for the characters and anything else is just a weird modification.

What?

But he had chainmail. And pants.

And realistic belts and pouches so that his sword and shield aren't magically glued to his back and his items aren't stored in his hat.

Also: How can you call Twilight Princess a bad game? Sure it wasn't AS good as OOT/MM but it wasn't a bad game by any standard.

He, I remember that real is brown web comic. Blinding brown is the most awful thing.

Here's how nice HD games without brown can look:

I strongly prefer the Fox character model in Melee, so I see where you're coming from. Fox's design in Brawl and all his subsequent games are actually much more accurate toward Nintendo's concept of Fox as a character (which I don't like very much). Fox looks so different in Melee because HAL didn't really have much to work from besides the triangle-headed Fox of Star Fox 64 and Smash 64, so they designed his head to look much more like that of a real fox rather than a cartoon.

However, I see that as more of a character model issue, and Brawl Fox does have some redeeming qualities to him; he looks much more modern and detailed in both polygon and texture, so I think establishing a comfortable medium is in order. This is where the designers come in. :D

Agreed. I don't have the Melee Mario texture, I have the Super Mario Galaxy Mario texture.

Too good!

New, "Hi-res" Stuff is not always better

People (like myself) just like classic stuff and sometimes Classic/old is just better
Playing brawl with melee Captain falcon and even 64 C.falcon is just nice
Oh and the Goku texture..My god! it just look SOOO good
lol im sorry i love DBZ

lol people in this thread acting like their problems related to brawl's graphics actually have anything to do with brawl's graphics.
