PEEF, we are still at a phase where that sort of discussion is better suited to the PM dev team. Streaming is one thing. Giving people glimpses of what's being worked on is ok. But we generally put forth queries for public opinion on something when we have something specific that we'd like their opinion on. We prefer to crowd source our ideas more passively though, and your cooperation with this methodology would be appreciated.

We (PMBR) have recently directly asked for ideas on Ivysaur in this very thread. I would quote you the post(s) but i couldn't find them in my 2 minutes of looking. I'm sure someone else can.

We can involve the community or we could just shut down this thread entirely. I'm not even revealing anything, lets give it a break. We should involve everyone who is willing to put forth an opinion instead of complaining that *god forbid* someone "puts forth their opinion on something that we haven't specifically asked for" in the Project: M thread.

peef quit the ****, congrats on being able to run a stream at high quality, you deserve a medal

everyone else: stop being dumb too, stop flaming each other and post constructive things

Instead, lets talk about ideas for ivysaur
(Interesting first part >__>)

This was a little over 2 weeks ago. I'm not sure when the discussion officially "ends". But I don't really see the problem about Peef posting an idea for a character, since non-PMBR members do it all the time (since we usually have nothing else to talk about). Are you concerned that people might mistake these ideas for official plans when they're spoken by a PMBR member, and you don't want to misrepresent them or something? It doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me.

And Snake basically has a sex bair in Brawl already...
I was thinking something like that actually, but facing the opposite direction so the tail hits in front. Would function more like a traditional sex kick like that.

And I'm not a BR member, but is there really a problem with showing Ivy on streams? I know some may get the wrong idea about where a character is going, but it's not like we're the ones playing and getting used to the character, plus you guys have been saying that everything is subject to change since day one. Everyone knows, or at least should know, that streams show stuff that isn't finished (again, subject to change), kinda like a peek at what the BR's up to. Or at least that's what I always assumed they were for.

And Shagnus said discuss, so get discussin'.

The only problem there is with this is that once we talk about BR things that are nnot polished yet, we sometimes create expectations, and the likelihood that we will scrap many ideas (because we think they don't work) poeple will like in theory is high, hence, it will make some poeple pissed off. We'd rather share information about advanced builds. For exampe, Lucario is vcery advanced, but still subject to changes here and there. So we can talk about him. But highly experimental characters, we had problems with pissing off Sonic and Ness mains before because they knew things we did and took off (it was for the better, but they thought otherwise).

The BR is controlling information given and releases it when it has a tangible build to show for poeple to get a general idea about the character's direction, but we do read what you write.

To be fair, it has been much, much, much, much worse before. Remember the reveal of a very experimental Bowser whose concept is significantly more refined now?

Yeah, the only problem is that Ivy doesn't have a solid concept right now. Without going into details, she has two builds underway and both a quite different from each other, so one WILL get scrapped.

But I like ivy like that, why would you scrap it? :(

BTW, I'm not serious.

Should make this into a reality show IMO.

Who will you save!? Build 1 or build 2!?

Call 1 800 IVY PMBR and donate one dollar to Magus for each vote!

Soooo.

I'm hosting a small smashfest this saturday with SoVa! Excluding me, there will be at least 3 people. And considering it's only tuesday-wednesday, there is still room for that to grow.

Get hype.

So whats a guy gotta do the get this?
Do you guys only release it to certain people or is it open for anyone?

:phone:
You can apply to be a playtester to have access to the private builds or wait for the demo that's gonna come out. Release date hasn't been announced so you will have to be patient. The current demo that is out isn't worth trying because its extremely outdated.

Because we've had countless times where the public loses their **** about some idea that isn't fully thought-out, and it's difficult for people to distinguish between random PMBR member's musings versus official statements of where the game is at/going.

We flip out over any change man especially if it drastically strays away from a character's moveset/playstyle. So hiding stuff from us just because we lose our cool doesn't make your argument valid, since this project thrives on feedback.

**** people need some patience, seriously just wait, play melee, skyward sword just came out, buy a ps3, go masturbate to your 10cent porn, i don't care, if you have liked what you have seen of P:M thats BEEN RELEASED so far, then surely that is proof enough that they are doing a splendid job at what they are doing, why change what's working now?

This is what Brawl+ did and it's also what screwed them over.

Brawl+ died because it had a terrible conservative design plan from the start, a terrible back room that was corrupted into being led by like 2 people, and constant updates to the build every other week causing a lack of dedicated players and a lack of any amount of training with the game meaning anything because it was going to change next week anyway. Nowhere in Brawl+'s fall was a cause of "Too much background work being made public"

"Constant updates to the build every other week" and "Too much background work being made public" are pretty much the same thing.

Not exactly, constant updates mean that the public whining leaked into the backroom.

Letting the public know about what is being worked on may spark some outcry, but ultimately, you still have full control of what is created.

You can't blame us for being fustrated while we watch you guys having a great time playing the alpha

It certainly makes me want to get together with them though, so it's good for their social lives lol.

Watching PEEF's Pit vs Kirby stream. Autoglide looks like fun so I was wondering a few things: can it be done on the ground, how fast can you start another one, and how much control do you have over your initial direction? You glided horizontal on recovery a lot. Also what's the deal with up-B being an explosion with the height of like, Brawl Peach's d-jump? And does he still have Mirror?

I figure I should throw this out there.

There's a reason why developers of videogames that have a price don't like to completely throw out every little bit of what's precisely going on in the development process and like to gradually reveal their accomplishments. Knowing exactly what's going on as opposed to having a general idea, can deteriorate sales, while at the same time increase them depending on what it is. They don't want to take that risk.

The PMBR is presumably taking the same approach.

Input is nice, but too much input as result of breathing down the developers' necks, will make them lose control of the project. Especially since this can and probably will bring two different type of players here; Brawl players and Melee players who could want two completely different things happen to a character as an example.

It's painful to see them play the game right in front of your eyes, but it's for the best. So needless to say, suck it up and be patient. You'll have your turn.

Pretty much what JCaesar said. Publicizing our work every week would pretty much only be letting you guys in on the nitty gritty experimental details which, as previously mentioned, we're adverse to doing because historically it's a bad idea.

I'll just finish by pointing at Lucario. The concept took a very long time to flesh out, and for such a radical change, had we posted details about the concept early in development the public outcry (that there surely would have been) might have been enough to cause us to scrap the idea. By keeping it under wraps and taking the time to completely flesh the idea out and work out all the kinks in the build, we ensured its success.

Lcanceling isn't difficult at all in the pm demo if that's what you're practicing on.
