Plus I don't know why people are casting this down as "inciting drama"? Why are people surprised that fans of PM are going hard for their game? God forbid they defend and try to ensure the future of the game they've put thousands of hours into. Of course the young-ins and the un-eloquent people have gotten into the discussion, welcome to the internet. I don't think that changes the fact that people in the PM community are trying to fight for equal representation in our community, and to be taken seriously.

For someone who's been apart of this community for almost 3 years, its so disheartening for a large section of the community to say to us "Nintendo means more to us than you".

There's something so wrong about that.

They're professionals. Professionals have standards. Be polite, be efficient, and have a plan to kill everyone you meet. Among those standards is staying calm at all times to keep public confidence up.

Yeah I don't know where the Smash Continuum is going beyond the perceived glimmers from my reduced intake of fluoride. If you just got rid of the Nintendo part, we'd just need a hacked Wii like I do to play 20XX pack; then I don't think you'd need a memory card either.

I couldn't agree more with this. Right now it is OK in Melee, when we see like 10 matchups played out at a highest level regularly, and with 3 core matchups (Fox v Fox, Fox v Falco, Fox v Marth) that are considered somehow even and aren't theorized out completely, with new innovations. If it becomes just Fox though, it would be a different story.

I'd draw parallels to correspondence chess where that kind of staling is happening (the time constraints in over-the-board chess slow the staling process down there). You can use databases and opening theory, and the 20XX there is the draw.
Because White has a minimal advantage, he has to choose between fewer and fewer opening lines which didn't give easy ways to draw for Black. Black has problems winning even against much better players because it is so easy to find a draw with White.

In Melee, I'm pretty sure a staled state would look like this: Most players play Fox, mindgames are (almost) everything. There is almost no room to get better, you could always lose a match against certain players if they have a bit of luck with the reads. Styles don't exist any more, everyone that previously had an aggressive or passive or whatsoever style got read more than he could read an universal player, making the players who care about their result play universal too. If you watch a top match without the names and the characters' coulour, it would be almost impossible to tell who is playing, even on top level. Endurance and daily shape is more important because you will fight through tons of players that will make you lose if you don't play at your best.
You will all see this before 2020 in Melee.

It was really disillusioning for me to find out the majority (or at least most vocal) people in my former semi-local scene are in their mid twenties yet turn into twelve year olds during arguments. These are people about six years older than me. ._.
