I heard this the other day. Who knows, maybe we'll be able to copy to haddrive like xbox. Then setups will be cake.

For internationals too, setups could have both Melee and Brawl (maybe even Smash 64) on the console, and that would save a lot of trouble with setups, organization, etc.

Sure, they're calling it "Project Cafe" for now. But when it comes to launch, they're gonna call is something stupid like WiiWii, PeePee (no offense PPMD), or WiiWang or something like that.

I wonder if backwards compatibility will ever lead into native increase of resolution.

I actually think this is great news. I heard it was supposed to be 1080p, this means that there will be next to no lag with newer tvs (if nintendo plays it right, that is).
This is awesome.

an IGN article also says that their "sources" say it's going to be "Considerably more powerful" than a 360 or PS3

o.O

this is very very good news lol

I wouldn't be surprised if it came out and had the same power as a Wii.
Each new generation console is always more powerful than its predecessor

...but compared to XBOX720 and PS4 it'll be significantly behind. Everyone can expect that

We all know thats gonna happen if we take this thing way too seriously when it comes out. (Ex. Wii) so lets lower our expectations.

Yay for lower expectations!

Implying people would stop playing Melee if it wasn't backwards compatible?

unless it's easier to load melee from this new system i'd still prefer the cube lol

it's essentially plug and play

in fact i'd rather invest money into shrinking down the cube into a more portable piece of equipment

Guys

guys

stop guys listen

What we need is

stop seriously listen this is important

What would be awesome is

goddammit quit interrupting

What should happen is a portable gamecube in a future

where all the walls are televisions

that can wirelessly connect to media devices

so people can play videogames on walls

like

ORDINARY WALLS

anywhere they want

raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaape.

That's good. I really only play SSBM on the Nintendo Wii since my GC is old and after like a hour it starts freezing. :p

It has nothing to do with the quality of the product. It's so we aren't disappointed by the outcome.

I guess it depends on how this will work in terms of upscaling, but I really feel like melee's future is on good comps in dolphin. It's really easy to hacks when you can just modify the iso without having to repeatedly burn it, and you run it in 1080p without problems with a good enough computer (and in 5 years computers that can do that will be cheaper). The only problem is recording. You need a REALLY good comp to run it in 1080p with lots of AA so it looks good and still run screen capture software.

But hey, if Cafe does upscale it well, that's cool too. I have a 1080p monitor, so I can take that around with me to tourneys. Bringing my desktop would kinda suck.

Lol, you're missing the point. If the product is ****ty, we just ignore it. There will be no effect.

This is apposed to if we are hyped up about it, discover that it is a let down and have to go through the process of venting anger and recovering from the shock of a substandard product =)

Yeah not having unrealistic expectations can definetly help not being too disappointed in a product, even if it's good... That said... Who had that high expectations for the wii? Or brawl? The wii I wasn't expecting much from after we saw the wiimote and brawl... Well yeah I wanted to get it and try it, but lots of stuff we saw from that daily blog already gave me a bad feeling about it :)

I pretty much realized Brawl would be ballz after seeing videos of it at E3 and hearing Gimpyfish's summary of how gameplay was (slow and floaty).

That being said, I don't see how anyone can have high expectations for Project Cafe, at least in terms of being compatible with Melee. As long as it is backwards compatible, and this was already confirmed, what else do you need? Sure, being able to download GameCube games onto it would be great, and somehow enabling online play (even if through modding) would be EPIC, but that doesn't seem like anyone's expectation anyway.

Nothing but rumors though. I wouldn't be surprised if it came out and had the same power as a Wii.
Ign is actually quite reliable when it comes to this sort of thing. And plus nintendo was in big trouble with how bad the gamecube did, the wii was a gamble and it payed off. So now they are going back to making consoles that are good.

And oh yea, sony and Microsoft are expected to announce their new consoles as well so they will probably all be somewhat equal in power.
