Are there any good ways of staying in practice when you're just not able to play at all, or very seldom?

Mizuki: get a setup or make friends with someone who has one. cube and disc are like $15-$20 for each, CRTs are free

Bones: Everything's been posted before, I don't think I have much new to say so I don't post much

That's money I just don't have, and the smashes don't want to loan me their set ups.

I bought a Melee disc off of Ebay for $5.

I have a few more vids vs. Sheik for anyone who is interested. I was playing really wild the first two games so I don't even want advice on those. I stepped it up in the third game on FD (minus 2 dumb SDs) because I get salty any time I lose twice in a row. :p Still, not my finest work, but I guess the most important thing I need to work on is discipline anyway.

Premium was a gift to me. I live paycheck to paycheck right now. Everything goes to food and bills.

Bones, I would still need a cube. I barely had enough money to buy a controller at zenith.

Well, food's pretty scale-able, if you ask me.
I usually use ~150 euros on food per month, but I can get by with like 80 (rice, noodles, instant soup... quality food indeed :D) and I've blown above 250 before and regret nothing (:

Nah. I just have some amazing friends. Too bad none of them live in AZ. XD

@XYZZ: I'm allergic to all preservatives, wheat, soy, starch, corn, all Poultry, and most fruit. I pretty much live off Pork, and Eggs. It's pretty ugly.

Mizuki, you've posted that you don't have a setup way more than you need to. We all know. I don't know if you want us all to hail you as a disadvantaged prodigy, or if you want sympathy, but at this point, we get it. There are two easy solutions. Either stop being bad at spending money, or stop being bad at working. Good employees get more hours, which gets more pay. I've never met someone loving pay check to pay check who don't either suck at spending money or at working. Fix your problems.

Is there a reason you feel to be so hostile towards me?

I don't get more hours because of staffing. I'm the part time maintenence and they add or take hours based off the season. My performance has no effect on how many or few hours I get. Been trying to get another job, but I work weekends, and that messes with my ability to get a second job.

Spending isn't an issue either. I just don't have the money to buy anything. LOL.

I'd say more annoyed than anything, you posted about not having a tv like three times In a row... Maybe I'm just too easily annoyed. Although if you get paychecks, and have no money, you're spending. You could probably spend better

If you don't play that much, you will attain a plateau that isnt surmountable by any means. There's simply no other way to get super good without tons of hours of practice. If we're talking about improving to high level, then ya...

I also noticed that I'm losing my tight reactions or do stupid stuff i havent done before because I do not play as much as I used to when i competed a lot. There's only one way to the top.

My paychecks go towards: food, rent, electric, gas, and Internet. 100%. Its not like I'm eating out, or buying prepared meals either. I buy ingredients, and cook. I mentioned I don't have a set up, because I'm wondering if there are alternative ways of keeping in practice. I don't always have the ability to play, and I don't always have the ability to make it to smash fests. The fact that you're being annoyed by hone questions is just.. I don't even.

Look, sweetheart, you can get $20 in America if you want to. You just can. It's literally a few meals or a couple hours of work. I know some very, very, very poor people, and for something that takes up a significant portion of their free time they would be capable of procuring a one-time investment of $20. ****in' collect aluminum cans or some **** if you have to.

It might be that you don't value melee practice highly enough to spend that kind of money on it (that money, obviously, means more to you than most of us.) That's fine, and probably honestly a good decision if you're really struggling, which I gather you are. But you could get it if you absolutely needed to.

My recommended advice on how you should improve:

1. Don't take condescending advice. These people are not focused on your best interests. Instead, make friends with people that care about you and your well-being, and reciprocate with those people. Competitive games are highly social, and it will aid you greatly to have friends that you can rely on. These people will make themselves known to you as you spend more time with them, so you should meet as many people as possible and you'll figure it out from there.

2. Take care of yourself. This includes dieting and dressing well, but also other things that you may not do as much like reading more literature or doing other activities that you enjoy. For example, I like walking on beaches, in parks, on train tracks or old country roads at night. Spending lots of time with friends helps too, take them with you. These things will make you feel better and develop your person.

3. Once you have built yourself up, you will function better and your play and rate of improvement will both improve. Until you are at a place of comfort, you will not be able to act with the full depth of your being and your development will be stunted. Smash is not best played when it is a stressor. Some stress will expand your capabilities, but in smash that stress will hold you back. It is the lack of outside adversity that will blossom your growth. Do not worry about the game or your approach to it, they are not important for you at this time. You will be better at the game simply by not playing it and focusing on more important matters until your conditions change.

I got to play Mew2King in a ton of friendlies last night at PB&J's house. If anyone watches and notices some stuff I could work on, lmk. I know I need to stop holding shield and spotdodging. M2K is just too scary. lol Also please follow PB&J to help him reach partner so viewers can change the quality of the stream. It only takes a second and you can disable emails in your account settings so following someone will never be annoying.

I'll look through that sometime =]

I don't scare easily in melee. I basically exclusively play players that have been playing 2 or more years longer than I have lol but I don't ever get that "scared." I don't ever do things like stupid rolls or be too afraid to ledge dash and doing a mew2king jump (unless I just input it wrong) or other things like that.

I noticed I literally never hastily roll in towards the stage by the ledge lol.
My thing is is that I make the other person beat me. A lot of the time when I'm in a bad situation I'll just wait and do nothing (forced by the ledge, or laying down after a no tech) and I force the opponent to do something. I feel like I don't "flinch" in melee because I'm always playing to learn and not to win, plus I have the "you're a way better player than me" john so I don't ever feel too scared to do anything because I'm supposed to lose anyway. But once you have that mentality, you can see how the pace of the game slows down and how many bad situations you can turn into stalemates that you can flip into your advantage. Don't ever be hasty and always do what you want. Remember that we are all playing the same game.

That might sound a little braggy but I think patience and a disregard of the outcome make me a lot better than I am lol. Or it just makes me a Fox player.

My Falco got whooped on all day today, every match. So I started using mostly my Puff and my Fox that I previously didn't have confidence in (i.e. Puff is too abstract, Fox is too hard for newbs, I haven't been playing Fox long enough, this guy I'm playing is way more technical than me [that is a big no-no and a mindset killer] etc.) before and I started playing so much better and more comfortably. Actually I realized that not only am I way better at those characters but I enjoy them more personally. The only thing that was stopping me from doing well with Fox/Puff was a lack of confidence that led to me maining Falco because (imo) he's the "easiest" character to perform well with. He was a crutch for me. Confidence makes this game so much easier and engaging.

Waiting in shield doesn't really work, especially vs. Mew2King who will just run up and grab you. I think stuff like waiting after missed techs can catch people off guard, but for the most part it doesn't actually prevent certain coverage options from working. It just makes it more likely that the opponent will get flustered and choke. Top players aren't going to get flustered and choke from simple standoff situations though. They are good at keeping composure and will wait you out when you're in the disadvantaged situation, and waiting often makes your situation worse with each passing second. If you're shielding, obviously your shield is quickly shrinking, and if you are knocked down, you give them time to space properly and mentally prepare to react to your option.

Let me specify and say that I was playing Fox, who can out run every good character. I didn't say anything about shielding lol. I'm referring more to the Jman sit and do absolutely nothing. Idk if you ever noticed how blatant it was. Pretty often he would actually do nothing (or dashdance obnoxiously in place) and wind up on top of the situation. Mango does it too, albeit differently with his empty hopping or dashing dance around someone's shield. I suppose more specifically I'm saying to never commit too soon in a neutral or defensive position unless whatever you are doing is guaranteed. I believe that Jman and Mango are high level players lol and they both do what I'm talking about very very well. Mango is actually super patient for how aggressive he looks.

I also need to be more specific and say that, in my experience against everyone I've ever played thus far, if you already missed your tech and all options can be covered then it is best to dely whatever option you chose and make it as awkward and as tense possible.

It sounds like you're mostly talking about in neutral or even when you have the advantage (stage control or a shielding opponent). I am talking about situations where I'm at a significant disadvantage and I can't outspace an impending attack/grab mixup. I also don't know why you'd cite Fox examples seeing as how he is completely different. If waiting for them to overcommit and DD grabbing was a legitimate threat with Falco, I'd use it all the time.

A few things I noticed - you often shine after an aerial even when m2k is out of range and you get punished for it a lot; also approaching with aerials off platforms like axe looks cool but gets you grabbed. on edgeguarding marth - in situations like 28:54 you can shine bair them.

I like the ledgedashes
