Portal 2 gets co-op, heading to Xbox 360 and PC

http://kotaku.com/5486758/portal-2-adds-multiplayer-co+op-new--familiar-characters

"Today's big reveal of Portal 2 as next month's Game Informer cover did lots of us in the maniacal excitement department, but little for us in the hard facts department. But now, between Eurogamer being told by Valve that the game is heading to Xbox 360 and PC, and Game Informer's reveal that the sequel features a "two-player co-op mode [with] its own campaign [featuring] two new playable characters" (not to mention that it's set to release at "full retail price")"

"Coming this holiday. Portal 2 is the sequel to 2007's Game of the Year and draws from the award-winning formula of innovative game play, story, and music that earned the original over 70 industry accolades. Features single and multiplayer co-op modes. The single-player portion of Portal 2 introduces a cast of dynamic new characters, a host of fresh puzzle elements, and a much larger set of devious test chambers. Players will explore never-before-seen areas of the Aperture Science Labs and be reunited with GLaDOS, the occasionally murderous computer companion who guided them through the original game. The game's two-player cooperative mode features its own entirely separate campaign with a unique story, test chambers, and two new player characters. This new mode forces players to reconsider everything they thought they knew about portals. Success will require them to not just act cooperatively, but to think cooperatively."

Who's gonna get this for PS3/PC/Mac? I was initially gonna get the Xbox 360 version, but the PS3 comes with Steam Cloud AND a copy of the PC/Mac version. Oh, and people, pre-order it on Steam and you get a free copy of the first game!

New, free DLC coming out this summer. Will include "new test chambers for players, leaderboards, challenge mode for single and multiplayer modes, "and more." according to the IGN article. Here is a link to the article, though there isn't much to it. No news on future DLC packs or their price, though we know they're planning on them.

Gabe's got his speech today, which co-insides with a date in the Portal "Portal 2" ARC stuff. Should hopefully get some more details on this (and for the love of god, please Episode 3)

well at least it will be good that its released eventually. i liked the first one but i hear thiis is gonna be ten times harder, which in the portal world easier. the whole point of portal is OVERTHINKING EVERYTHING HARDER THAN IT REALLY IS. thats what i did when it came out XD

You're surprised? The only games they haven't delayed have been the L4D series.

**** it was delayed? ****.

I downloaded Portal for Xbox and got full gamerscore for it. (Well would've if the 2 easiest achievments in the game never glitched for me).

Can't say I'm a fan of the voice. Hopefully it gets put through a filter to sound more robotic

It darn well better be. :c
According to Wikipedia:

At the 2010 E3 conference, the demonstration version included the voice of Valve animator Richard Lord for the Wheatley personality sphere; Doug Lombardi noted that the audio was simply a placeholder for the demo,

Which is great until you read this part:

but Lord's performance was well-received and made the character as likable as the Weighted Companion Cube from the first game, urging critics to request Valve retain Lord's voice in the final game.

What? Ugh. I didn't mind the voice too much but they better at least run it through a filter like they did with GlaDos's voice acting.

From what I've seen on Valve forums it seems that everyone likes Wheatly for the funny things he says and his British accent. They can keep him British but just change that voice, get an actual voice actor to do him, and make it robotic.

Still want a robotic filter over Wheatly's voice...

So by the looks of it each robot controls one colour and co-op is pretty much going to be each player helps out the other by shooting at places their partner cannot see.

Sound good so far. I will be getting this game.

Yeah, but still....sigh.

At least it's guaranteed to be a killer game.
