also, @ Sinn(im agreeing with you), just because the character looks like someone doesn't mean they have to talk like them. Remeber Daisy and Wario in Melee(and wario in 64)? And just becuase Link wore black didnt mean he was mute. My point being this : PT can look like Red, Blue, Gary or Brock but that doesn't mean he has to sound like them(will he talk anyways?)
I get the feeling...yeah, he might. On the update it said "Is... Is he issuing commands?!" for a screen shot of him pointing while his mouth was open. He could easily call out the commands of the Pokémon or say something in his taunt, or SOMETHING. None of the characters have no voice acting at all, and even though he's not gonna grnt from attacking/being attacked, they'll still probably need a voice for him.

That's probably one of the best questions I've heard lately...

Personally, I don't see why they couln't keep hold to thier items...It'd make sence

I mean....I don't know how they'd pass it to each other when switching...unless they just drop it..but that'd seem a bit unnecessary....pokemon can hold items in thier pokeball, right?
Oh so very true. And I had almost forgotten that.

I wonder what will happen if Squirtle is holding an item and you switch to Ivysaur. Will Ivysaur be holding the same item Squirtle just had. Or maybe Squirtle keeps it and still has it when you bring him back out. That'd be cool, then you could store items.
Wow...that's something...actually original. I hope that you could store items cause that would be sweet...a crate drops 3 bats and you pick up all three...sweet!:chuckle:

I don't get why everyone is WTF about red being in the game. I mean the main character of pokemon games is the pokemon trainer. its just makes sense.
Well for one, they didn't want Red to fight himself, which makes sense.

What I didn't understand was when people didn't even like the idea of Pokemon attacking for Red. I suggested it in my original post, and someone also pointed out that Red could be like Yugi from the Jump series for Nintendo DS. Yugi does not do a single attack by himself. When you press attack buttons, he points his hand forward as a monster appears to attack for him. If Red wasn't going to fight himself, I would have liked for his moveset to be made of Pokemon attacking for him. But people insisted that Red somehow wasn't important enough to the franchise to make it in, so...*shrug* X)

Well, additionally there seem to be a few people out there who just don't like the idea of Red because they don't think he's important to the series. I can understand where they're coming from in a sense, but I don't agree with it. Trainers are the huge driving force in the game. Sure, nowadays there have Pokémon Mystery Dungeon that focuses entirely on Pokémon with no humans to interact with them (though...the character you play is a human turned INTO one anyway), but the core games have always had a huge emphasis on humans and what THEY want to do with the creatures. Example: Mewtwo. People generally don't seem to disagree that he's a Pokémon worth putting in Smash, but the only reason he existed in the games was because humans who were interested in Pokéemon research CREATED him.

If people say that the individual creatures are more important to the series than any of the trainers, then here's my big question: for players of the game, what reason did they play the game for? Was it to be proud that they collected all of the Pokémon in the world? Was it to prove that their team was better than the teams of the Elite Four trainers? Was it to prove that their team was better than their FRIENDS' teams? All of these things require human interaction with the creatures. Without humans to do what they wanted to with Pokémon...there wouldn't have BEEN any game. Or if they DID make a game featuring only the creatures, it would have had an entirely different dynamic.

hehe..nice editing...but when you think about it, those pokemon are what Ash did have. I watched the cartoons back in the day, and I remember that he had a squirtle that went into some squirtle gang...his bulbasaur turned into an ivysaur and went to some girl in the forest...and uh yea he has a charizard that went to some charizard preserve -.-......I don't know why I can recall all this. >.>

Actually Ash's Bulbasaur is still a Bulbasaur at Oaks lab. He used Squirtle, Charizard and Bulbasaur in the last battle frontier battle >_>. You must be talking about some minor character's Ivysaur. Plus, how does anyone know Charizard is using Earthquake in the pic? It could be some other move. We won't know until Sakurai updates with it.

Nice edit! XD

Well here's an issue I brought up on GameFAQs, but I was met with a bunch of people who couldn't read and I was pretty ignored, so I will attempt a discussion here.

Do you think Pokemon Trainer will have a voice? If so, who do you think it will be? In my eyes, there are three viable choices. There's the Japanese voice actress of Satoshi/Ash, Rica Matsumoto. There's the old voice actress for Ash from Pokemon to Pokemon Advance Battle, Veronica Taylor. Finally, there's Ash's new voice actress Sarah Na-icantremembertherestofherlastname. Now, you may all argue that Red/Pokemon Trainer is not Ash, but Ash WAS based off Red's design. Seeing as how every character in Melee makes some sort of noise, it would be odd to have Red remain silent throughout the entire battle. Look at his face, he's quite expressive and he's issuing commands. So who would you rather prefer?

1) Rica Matsumoto

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yAnnuUxq6Ks

I think her voice for Satoshi is great. Passionate when it needs to be. The problem is, does it fit Red's design? Even if Ash is based off Red, Red looks a lot more mature to me for some reason. The other problem is that I've never heard her speak English, and I don't know how good she is at speaking it. You know, in case Melee goes for the "let's save money on voice actors by having our Japanese voice actors grunt and speak in English rarely".

2) Veronica Taylor

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4CxPXh_pyY

Blah, best clip I could find. She made Ash's voice a bit deeper towards the end of her time on Pokemon, so if you've seen the Lucario movie you'll know what I'm talking about. What can I say? She's nostalgic, and I like her way better than the new one. If she stuck with that older voice for Ash she started to use, I'd love for her to play as Red in Brawl...but the chances are very slim for her to be able to now.

3) Sarah Na-whateverherlastnameis

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tc4_ksYLRE0

I don't know. Something seriously bugs me with her voice. Even after all of this time, after I've warmed up to most of the cast, but no...her Ash voice grates my ears. I really wouldn't want her to be Red in Brawl, although the chances are extremely high since Nintendo is using the TAJ studio for Pokemon voices now.

So what does everyone think? Or rather, who would you prefer?

Ok...maybe I'm an otaku...but I watched the entire video for the last two links (which...I can't believe I still actually like the show. It's crazy), and then it took less than twenty seconds of watching the first link before I decided that I liked that voice better than the other two. But your points on her are valid, aside from the fact that I think that her voice sounds plenty old enough to work for it. If she wouldn't work then yes, I agree with liking the earlier actress's voice for him better. I listened to the third one first and the first words out of Ash's mouth just made me go o_O

I thought the ivysaur was always a bulbasaur and never evolved? >_<

Bulbasaur never evolved, and I doubt he ever will.

Edit: Don't want to double post, so I'll edit this with a translation of the scan on Red. Actually, the scan didn't have information that was really new, but here's a translation of what's in the black boxes anyway.

Zenigame/Squirtle
Squirtle, the turtle Pokemon. It protects itself by withdrawing into its shell, then when it sees an opening it counters by shooting water at the opponent.

Fushigisou/Ivysaur
Ivysaur, the seed Pokemon. Has a plant bulb on its back that exudes a sweet scent. Specialises in attacks using seeds and vines.

Lizadon/Charizard
Charizard, the flaming Pokemon. It's said that as it goes through painful battles, its tail flame's temperature rises and rises.

In other words, typical Pokedex entries. Maybe they provide a bit of a hint into the Pokemon's movesets, such as Ivysaur with Leech Seed, Vine Whip and Sweet Scent.

Aw come on...give Ash some credit. He has been electrocuted more than any other person alive...except maybe Team Rocket. He's been burned, blasted, chased by beasts, attacked by heavy objects (rock pokemon!) and even been killed (turned to stone actually). I only mean to say he could be soooooooooo much worse.

Oh and just for **** and giggles: If you mean Ash is a wimp like not strong then you'll be sorely disappointed. In the 2nd Mewtow movie (I think it was more like a special actually) Ash carries to the edge of a HUGE lake and then throws him in. This is amazing for 2 reasons: The first of course being because Mewtwo weighs 268 lbs!!! The second and more so amazing because of that first tidbit is that Mewtwo land in the center of that pond! Are you freakin kidding me?!!?

Then why does he almost never win any battles???

Is Pikachu should be level 100 by now yet it still looses to trainers who just start out...

...Red was a Champion by the time Ash...well, he still isn't even noticed in the anime pokemon world...or hardely...

What exactly DOES Ash do on the show? Since as far as I know, he kinda just...wanders around with Pikachu, Brock and "current female flavor of the year." I've heard him CLAIM that he wants to be the greatest Pokémon Trainer ever, but...really now, how much progress has he made so far?

And I agree...Pikachu has GOT to be level 100 by now...

Edit: Yay for special move update! Now if only they would tell us how the Final Smash is going to work...

Anyone else notice that the Pokemon Trainer actually stands on the Bridge of Eldin.

What's he going to do when it collapses? Just run to a non collapsed bit?

Squirtle is the one I want to play with the most. Ivysaur worries me and Charizards <B is surprising. PT is one of the first characters I'm going to experiment with.

It COULD be that the stage breaks in the same part every time, and he just never stands in that spot. But I get the feeling that the PT himself is going to be run by a decent AI that will constantly keep him out of harm's way, including jumping during scrolling stages. It's about the only thing I can think of that would work.

"Jumping during scrolling stages?" Now that would be cool. I would probably just experiment for like an hour watching the PT run up and down the DK stage and that Fire Emblem stage.

Whoa what about on the Halbard? Doesn't that one platform detatch and then fly around. Come to think of it you fly around on a platform in Delfino Plaza too right?

Why does charixard need a rock? I don't get it... :p
It says it's smashing with his head, so it's probably at kirby B> attack...
please explain sum1 :p
Seems to me that Charizard picks up the rock, then either smashes it with his head/claw to send out large chunks of rock, or he smashes it over someone's head.
Either way that constitutes that the rock is being smashed.

I applaud Sakurai on including that move, since it certainly wasn't expected, and I'm sure (Even though some people complain about it now) that once we get to actually use the PT that everyone's going to love every move that each pokémon has anyways. ^^
